And the Oscar goes to Sangah for best piano in the music drama category! I’ll bet Kurt Weill had no idea his song could sound that great at the hands of Sangah. I wonder what he would have said if he had heard it played like this by our piano master. Upbeat, happy, bouncy, and executed to perfection - that’s the telltale sign that Sangah is in the house! I heard this tune for the first time as a jingle for McDonald's commercial, and never knew it had such dark lyrics and convoluted connections to the past. Wow, so so weird (but not as strange as the Slap Heard Around the World at Oscars last night). I guess in the end, what matters really is the music itself, and the memories associated with it. Nice performance. It is easy to understand why Sangah doesn’t sing “Mack the Knife.” Like other murder ballads the lyrics discuss unpleasant subjects. A few other examples that come to mind include “The Ballad of Jesse James”, “Frankie and Johnny”, “Miss Otis Regrets”, and “Stack O’Lee” (“Stagger Lee”).
