  • The Barrie City Council has approved the development of a sports field at Allandale Station Park, but residents are determined to reverse the decision.
Last month, Pollinate Barrie organized a walk through the park to emphasize the potential consequences of converting it into an astroturf field and to advocate for rewilding the area instead.
Ashley Hammell, co-founder of Pollinate Barrie, guided the residents through the park and warned of the catastrophic consequences of converting the last naturalized portion of the Barrie waterfront into a controlled, paved space.
Ecologist Geri Poisson has expressed significant concerns about the City of Barrie's claims regarding Allandale Park.
The following video captures the walk and includes interviews with Ashley Hammell and Ecologist Geri Poisson.
