      I have always said that Space Mountain is basically a carnival coaster anchored inside a reinforced concrete building. But yeah, the darkness just adds so much. Plus it's amazing that they managed to cram TWO 3,200 foot (975 m) coasters into such a small space. Also remarkable is the sheer number of trains running at any given time -- each track typically runs 13 simultaneously.
      Came here to replicate this in RCT2 and am not disappointed.

      Now what do you mean it looks boring?

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo Před 11 lety +7

    It's pretty much a 'Wild Mouse' type coaster. Instead of very large dips (which would take up too much space), they use many twists and turns as possible to exaggerate the length of the ride. Have you noticed in certain sections they flash lights in a chase pattern TOWARDS you, that creates the illusion of speed, making the coaster seem faster than really is. It's pure genius. Built in the 70's, it stood the test of time and is a favorite of many to this day.

    I remember riding the People Mover through SM when the ride was shut down and the whole interior was lite up like this (probably for a major repair or routine maintenance). Being mechanically minded, it was interesting to see the track and supporting structure for everything.

    I like it much better in the dark. The reason why SM is one of my favorite coasters at WDW is because it is in the dark and you have no idea where you're going, whereas here it's very predictable.

    Was great seeing this with the lights on. I went on it in 1991, and absolutely loved it at the age of 10, although at the time had no idea what I was walking into. Last week I went on mission 2 in Disneyland paris, having no idea at the time it had loops, but can't fault the ride, loved that too :) . Was nice having it a bit different then the one in Florida

    +Cara Greenwood the purpose is higher capacity, meaning shorter waits. I've been told the only difference is that the teams are mirrored, meaning when one track turns left, the other goes right, but I have not been on this one, just the one in California, which is quite different.

    I was in line for this when I was 8 years old back in summer 2008 when it broke down or something and I got to see the whole ride with the lights on. I was in the near-boarding area of the quene line and back then there was no ceiling there (unlike nowadays there's a blue-lit ceiling with a gap in it with stars) like I said there was no ceiling there and you could hear the screams of riders up above, and when the lights turned on you could see all around the interior of the building and the ride.

    This ride is literally my favorite ride at Disney World. But Seeing with LIGHTS ON...it's shocks me. It's not even that fast... But I think this ride is awesome with LIGHTS OFF because of the fact that people don't know what's coming up, like whether if it's a drop or sharp turn. So it gets them screaming and excited!

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo Před 11 lety

    True. With the lights on, you see the true speed of the coaster. As I mentioned above. The lighting of the ride (when lights are off) is used in a few places to accent the speed of the ride, giving you the illusion that it is going much faster than it really is. Furthermore, in darkness, you don't know when the next turn comes up and they surprise you...even if you know the ride well. I did always want to know what it looked like with the lights on, but yeah its better to have them off.

    It's amazing how much the tracks resemble your average Japanese Jet Coaster when they're lit up. One of the most famous coasters in America and the tracks themselves are really quite primitive by today's standards (though, knowing the history of the ride, it's expected). Wonder if or when they plan on replacing the track with the more modern style used on the Disneyland version.

      Ok, so first you need to know that loading station is about 20 above the unloading station. After the unloading station, the empty train makes a 180 degree turn into a lift hill that is not the main one as AwesomeGeek21 stated. that lift hill is about 20 feet, and after that lift hill, it makes another 180 degree turn to the loading station, which is right above the unloading station.

      Natalia Epic Its most likely bc you ride in it in the dark making you feel the movements more then rides with the lights on. Its kind of proven that you can feel more things in the dark/with your eyes closed.

      Thats because the video makes it look like it goes slow as hell but if u actually ride it, it goes f-ckin FAST

      Don't be jealous because Walt Disney World is better than Six Flags

    This ride is so bad compared to space mountain in disneyland paris, this one doesn't make a loop and has no launch. I live in France and i was disappointed by this space mountain

      Karl Brewer This is the first Space Mountain. I've heard from multiple people that have ridden the Paris, California, and Florida Space Mountain's that they're least favorite is the Paris version because it is very rough.

      +Tbone1725 absolutely, Space Mountain in Paris is really painfull...off course lots of cool effects, but it's hard to enjoy that ride...

      Nicolò Manachino Yeah. I've only been on the Florida and California Space Mountain's and Florida was much better IMO than California. California's didn't really have the charm that Florida's does.

      well I saw that they just changed lights and few stuff...so the ride itself it's the same xD lots of friends told me that it's still rough as hell...but I know they will replace trains next year, so maybe that will help

      Ride it when it's dark and that will change.

      It's an amazing ride, I love it, with the lights off and actually being on it it's so fun

      that's why such small kids can ride it and also think of the lap bar, not much. it's just when it's dark all you feel is jerkyness so it seems like more
