  • macmost.com/e-2803 You can autofill cells in Numbers using copy and paste, a special autofill feature, and by simply adding new rows to a well-formed table. With the autofill feature, you can have values increase by 1, or using a pattern.

    A thing I haven't found in Numbers that I really liked in Excel was doing autofill from a dialog which lets one set start value, step and number of cells in column(s)/row(s). Every way you've shown is tedious when one needs to fill a large number of cells, e.g. dates for all the days of several years.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před rokem +2

      Nothing like that. But the keyboard shortcut I showed should be non-tedious for your example.

    Great video thanks, I'm needing to do a column with consecutive financial years eg 2022 to 2023 (in the UK) so starting at Cell A2 2022 to 2023 Cell A3 2021 to 2022 Cell A4 2020 to 2021 Cell A5 2019 to 2020............and so on. I have not been able to autofill as it just keeps repeating the same numbers when I select 2 or more cells, then drag the yellow dot downwards. In other words Its repeating the pattern of what I have already typed but not what I want it to do which is automatically follow the sequence down to the year 2000. Is the a way to do that in Numbers please?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Před rokem +1

      So you are using the exact text "2022 to 2023" in the cell? That's just text and Number can't know that you want two different words in that text to behave in a certain way for autofill. I would just type it for each cell (how many can you have -- only 20 if you go back 20 years). Otherwise, you can have a formula do this by subtracting the ROW() value from 2024 then append " to " and then ROW() value from 2023, etc.

      A cell can't "push" a value on another cell. It works the other way. So in F2 you have it "pull" the value. In F2 you would put =A2 as the simple formula to do that.
