If you run ANY light at 3000 lumens its going to get hot very quickly.
The Fenix TK16 V2 is a very similar light, the P23i is half a mm longer than the Fenix.
The P23i weighs in at 114 grams, the Fenix at 112 grams, hardly a significant difference.
"It's heavy as all hell." Come on, be real. Look at other lights that are in the same category with such brightness, ranges, and options and the weight is in that same range. Be fair with what you're getting. The holster works fine with me. I can carry it bezel down or up in it. The 23i gives me high output when I need it. For longer everyday use, I find its 250 lumen "low" mode is plenty for me. If I intend to see far or use it for defensive reasons, I don't see me holding it in its high modes for more than 30 seconds. I like lightweight EDC things too, but I don't expect my multitool with a lot of options to weigh and size the same as one with less options and I go bragging about how even the knife blade has better steel. I Understand your speciality requirements but I don't find the 23i heavy as all hell for what it offers and its price range.
I hear you, but for me, this is not a comfortable light to be kept in my pocket. I am not doubting its capabilities, but it is large, bulky, and heavy. For me, the size, weight, and lack of runtimes just don't make it an appropriate light to keep in the pocket. Holster is different. But I am talking about my experience with it and I don't use holsters
@@flashlightcrazy I used holsters for a long time and months ago when I just put them in my front pocket it changed everything. No more holsters. I have to say, I really like your vids but when you show other lights in about the same category as the 23i, they're just as big and weighty. You can get smaller battery sizes on various lights but nothing comes for free, there's a sacrifice somewhere in power and run times.
@@2fast2block Yeah, of course. Like I said, I am not knocking the P23i, but there are other options out there. And for me, the p23i was just too heavy and not enough runtime. That is all. Thanks for the comments
Nice flashlight from nitecore i must say....kinda reminds me of nitecore srt7i yup...but that holster is really really a letdown for me...yup cmon nitecore i Believe u can do better than that however i give thumb up for these flashlite...hey i cant argue for the fact that i own the nitecore P20IX....that is one heck of a flashlight...thank u very much Indeed... cheers mate....
Hey buddy, I love this torch. To me its the perfect tactical torch because I only need to strobe momentarily or put it on turbo. I just ordered a ring for the torch from MaxBeam, thanks for the heads up. Alright take care = )
I have this light and love it. I keep it in tactical mode and it does not take much to adjust the lumen setting I want in a fraction of a second. I've read that ring does not stay on well. Sure, I can run some electrical tape through it and around the light several times to keep it in place. My 'pocket real estate' though is precious but I think I can manage the ring somehow. I've tried a ring on another light and I have mixed feelings so far. About the stability, yes, it does add. It adds the ability to punch with it too. What I don't like is using it to kind of hold the light stable as you do other things with that same hand, it can put a lot of leverage on your ring finger and come back to haunt you rather than help. What I liked even better is using a large rubber O-ring and securing it where I want with a tie-zip or tape. Now I had the added stability w/o the risk of breaking a finger. Matter of fact I'm going to do that to the 23i and try it to see how it works on it.
@@2fast2block The nitecore ring has a function that snaps open under pressure to prevent finger damage
@@nje657 I see that but what happens if you twist the light and your finger pressure makes it snap open and you continue to twist the light? It seems to me that even if it opens your finger still has to deal with the pressure of the twist if it continues. Anyway, I could be wrong. I find that rings are somewhat nice but not worth for me.
Too be fair turbo mode is only meant to be used momentarily. I have this flashlight and I guess we all have different thresholds for heat, but having used the turbo mode quite a bit, the P23i is not that hot that I need to put it down. Heat sinks on a flashlight of this size, can only be on the small side, it goes without saying too be honest.

I know this vid has been up for over a year, all the better reasons to ask if you've found a better all round tactical flashlight?
I'm eyeing this p23i and part of the reason is that its on sale for quite a bargain here. But I'd want a tool that that I would actually use.
My phone with a case weights around 250g.. And I'd prefer to lessen my loads on my pocket. I've been looking into some 18650 choices but I tried and cannot use lights with both a tail and a side switch. I dont know how they became so popular and how are people okay with constantly changing their grip?
Internal batteries suck. But what are your opinions on the edc33 as an edc all purpose somewhat tactical light? Thanks.

I looked too for such a lumen large ratio but I really wanted the high candela for defense. The 50 lumen is low enough for me in reality. I'm very happy with my 23i.
3000lumens with that small head has got to get hotter than hell with a quickness!

I see there is a slight dark spot in the center of the light at 11:08. It is noticeable when you had it in lowest and low brightness. I has seen some people saying they got this on their light too. I have seen one other reviewer on youtube having the same dark spot in the center more noticeable than yours. Is this considered a defect?

If you want one that reaches the furthest then go the P23i
If you want one that has an even spread of light then go the P20ix or P10ix.
If you want more compact than anything else then go with the P10ix

Who cares about the light getting hot after a few seconds, the hotspot is like a second sun, thats perfect for defensive use.

@@flashlightcrazy It wont be an issu for anybody that doesent spesifically need a 50k candela beam for a long time, which is almost everybody considering this for defensive and general purpose use.

This flashlight is amazing!
Unfortunately I got a defective one and sent back to Aliexpress and asked for a refund. The led was still glowing a little after turning it off.
Then, I was seduced for more lumens and bought a P17 defender, and now I'm waiting for it to come. Hope to not did a bad deal.
1Lumen already reviewed P17 and it did pretty well! They are about to review the p23i too, so I can compare their runtimes graphs.
I did see a vid on the 23i that showed it actually starts with 63,025 candela and goes 502 meters. It does drop down fast though. From their graph it appears that at about 25 seconds, is when the light is at its 55,000 candela and steadily drops from there, so its not a 'continuous' thrower for a minute or two like some others are. That's all fine with me though because I'm all for the turbo bursting out 63,000 candela to get that quick blinding feature. About it sustaining it for a length of a minute or two is not a concern to me. This has been my EDC for a couple of weeks now and I carry it in tactical mode. It gets used a lot daily, especially on my job and I can't find a light that meets my wants as much as this one does. Just love this light and carry it easily in my pocket.
@@2fast2blockI know my mh25s has 63,000 candela but only 1800 lumens. I just got the p23i and damn it can throw light, it does get hot fast but the 800 and 1500 lumens is crazy good.
@@Studat I did get a meter to verify the candela and I did get around 55,000 cd on the P23i. The mh25s is a very nice light too. Not long ago I got the Weltool T8 Plus that has a max of 94,000 cd. I could measure about 93,000 in max, but I got 45,000 cd in High when it was rated at 44,000. Ok, I'll admit I'm addicted now and want a certain variety of lights that meet my liking. Hell, in the whole scheme of things, having a variety of lights that accumulate over some time is really not that expensive, plus they are always there to enjoy and use. They always have value. They do much needed tasks.

Now I can tell that the p23i felt superior than the p17, for me. Throws really better, has tail stand capability, the on/off switch is smoother, it's more pockeatable, and they send a lanyard and a holster for free.
The p17 is only better indoors, cause it has a larger hotspot.
The p23i is 10% cheaper now and I'm tempted to rebuy it.
@@matheusmf4135 interesting that you like the p23i more than the p17. The p23i sure gives a candela smack to the face in turbo mode and it's so fast to adjust the lumen level you want. About rebuying it, as you know, it's just a matter of time before things get even better.
So what sould i choose? This one or the mh12se?

I have both and to my eyes the mh12se with the same 21700pi battery throw a tiny bit more, And gets less hot I prefer the mh12se my self

Hardly a fair comparison about the heat, when the MH12SE is only having to handle 1800 lumens on turbo.

I don't agree with you that the P23i is not a good light.
Any light making 3000 lumen for a whole minute is going to burn hot. The driver is pushing 40 Watts in the LED and that mean a lot of heat.
The body can dissipate no more than 10 Watts in a continous fashion, so the P23i (and all other handheld 21700 lights of this size) should be considered OK for 1000 continous lumens. The 3000 peak lumens should be considered a bonus...

Yeah, a lot of Nitecore do. Very annoying.
I think it is something in the way they assemble the LED into the light head. If anyone knows please reach out. It is highly frustrating
@@flashlightcrazy it's ok outside but noticeable inside. I just got mine, my mh12s has a tighter hotspot and matches this even if it only has 1800 lumens. The mh12s also controls heat better.

This dark spot is not a flaw. It's common in every smooth reflector thrower flashlight because the reflection pattern.
This dark spot is only noticeable when in close range.
My convoy L7 has this dark spot at close range too, and my p23i too...
For more informations, google for donut hole beam pattern.
You can change to a orange peel reflector, which will throw less, or a TIR lens flashlight.
