Hey friends, this video was genuinely the most effort I've ever put into anything ever, thank you so much to anyone who came and gave it a watch, if this does well enough I'd love to make this a trilogy and do the entire franchise but we'll see how this goes first, sorry for not uploading on CZcams for a whole 3ish years but hopefully this video makes up for it. I always thought that was cool to give the player that option without hinting at it. It was like a happier alternate ending, it just felt right to see Paula turn to face the player with Ness' family.

Even then, Once you get Teleport you can spam it in the overworld to get through things like the swamp and Mt. Itoi plateau easily with far less encounters. PSI Stones are also busted as all hell as long as you don't roll the 1/8th chance of them breaking. Random encounters aren't as annoying on NES and GBA at least because you can run in the overworld unlike the original Famicom version, and cranking the text speed up helps a lot too.
That's what's nice about M1/EBB. It gives you the tools to make the game more enjoyable. But yeah, a bit more patience is required for the first game. I wish more people would check it out, it's my favorite of the trilogy. It's the shortest and most replayable too (imo.) Especially if anybody plays on an emulator and uses fast forward because grinding annoys them.

I’m a pretty similar age to you and have been on CZcams for about as long as I can remember. This long form style of content is something I am so nostalgic for, diving deep into games with both comedy and a true understanding for the game. I’m ngl I Ioved your short form content on tiktoks/ig but when I heard you were making a long yt video I was p worried your style wouldn’t suit it, but brother I could not have been more wrong. I first played this game in the 90's shortly after it came out. All these many years later I'm glad to see people still discovering and enjoying this gem of a game. I enjoyed watching you discover this game and it brought back all the feeling and memories when I first played it. I just randomly came across this video. Really awesome seeing a younger dude enjoying my fav game from my childhood. I'm almost 40 now and this game was basically my comfort food of my childhood. In 1994 i had to move from Missouri to Denver and earthbound was my comfort game growing up for years. Great video. I'll prob fire up a new save file on the game tonight. Thanks :)
I've beaten the game around 90 times now and you're not wrong. That Magicant part is an awful slog at the end of the game. Too many battles before a boss thats too hard to solo honestly. You didn't mention it but that's where a counterfeit game bricks. The local grocery store in Columbia Missouri was renting a counterfeit copy so my first run though ended there until i bought my own copy.

Earthbound was the best game I've ever played in my life. I can't stress enough how much I love this game. This video brings back all that joy and pain of first playing the game (You thought Master Belch was bad for 5 hours? How about trying to beat the game for a year and a half). When I was 13, this game was my most favorite. Finally beating it was an accomplishment over a year, and during the time of my life when everything was hectic and moving different places, Earthbound stayed the same, quirky, funny game it always was. Fast-forward 5 years later, and being an Earthbound-pro, there's still not a single day I don't think about this game.
Charjie, you made probably the best Earthbound video I've seen, and man this makes as best-video-award in my books. And congrats on beating a video game that you may never seem to forget about for the rest of your life. There's still a lot I wanna say but I gotta save my typing for economics class.
P.S I dare you to suffer through Mother 1's hellish confusing landscape without a guide. Also Mother 3 is very emotional and that's a freaking great game too!

As a Lucas Main in smash ult, I was always curious to know more about the, but too lazy to find out and honestly could have never guessed in 1 million years the amount of randomness and dumbness this story has and I’m all for it!😂 Thank you Charlie for the entertaining and well put together content

Surprisingly, Mother 1 and 3 are emotional games. 2 is more silly that’s for sure, tho its absurdity is just surface level compared to what it’s got under the surface. Esp if you’ve played Mother 1. but all 3 are great.

If you play Mother 3, you will appreciate Lucas hundreds times more than you already do. The Subspace Emissary does him so dirty and he is actually such an awesome and interesting character. Fair warning though, Mother 3 is really emotionally intense and will rip your heart out, spit on it, and grind it into the dirt.
I’ve never played MOTHER 3 since it was only ever localized by fans, but I hear it takes everything earthbound is and makes it way better

dude i’m gonna be real, the way you explained the ending moments of earthbound was beautiful. like i’ve played the game countless times before but i’ve never really sunk in the feeling that ness and his friends are literal kids going up against the fate of their future. maybe i’m just desensitized to the whole kids going to save the world trope, but hearing you explain it made it feel different in a good way

Very hilarious and fascinating video! It felt like I was playing through EarthBound all over again. It's such a lightning in a bottle game for me where most of what it ends up doing ends up being funny and quirky all in its own ways.

the reason the power of friendship is better in earthbound vs other stuff, is the fact that other stuff like fairy tale and others have to constantly tell u "its cause the power of friendship" vs earth bound which SHOWS u the power of friendship through actions, not just banter.
It's this and FF8 which left a hole in my heart after playing. Not because I was sad, but because the attatchment to the game was so strong that it felt like saying goodbye to a best friend, not knowing when we'd next meet.
It still holds up.

I can't quite put my finger on why, but finding a way to work around the text limitation and still put in your intended favorite thing feels very much in the spirit of Earthbound.

I think you really got at the heart at what makes Earthbound special at the end there. It’s earnest, it is okay with being a simple, whacky, hopeful story about kids saving the world from aliens, and it understands the value in what it is.
Earthbound never tries to be more than what it is. It’s not trying to be profound, it’s just trying to make you smile, laugh, and feel that maybe there is hope that people can make a difference. That in-of-itself IS profound.

This video was very beautiful. Your thoughts on Earthbound remind me of what I thought if it when I first played it. I remember beating Earthbound for the first time when I was in college by myself, away from my family, much like you did, and it was such a resonant feeling with me. I remember playing it as a kid and using cheat codes 'cause I had no patience, but the game always bugged out on me, so to properly play it through for the first time and actually see the ending was something else. No other video game up to that point ever really replicated what I had experienced after beating Earthbound for the first time. I remember playing and beating Fallout 3 that same year (I'm old) and it was nothing in comparison to what a game almost fifteen years its prior had accomplished.
Thank you for making a video about this influential game, that to this day still reaches the hearts of so many people.
