Rhythm heaven is the series that I subconsciously knew about because of all the music I hear from it but when I actually played it earlier this year, I fell in LOVE with it

I found the Megamix demo on the eshop, one thing led to another and I owned all the American releases within 2 months. The RH game series is now my favorite Nintendo series. I know that holding the ds sideways and getting out the stylus was a pain, but man could be it cool at certain points, especially the giant battles in BIS.
What happened was after Megamix released, Tsunku (the creator) got throat cancer (the sumo song being the last thing he ever sang). He's much better now, but can't talk, and is reluctant to pursue Rhythm Heaven/Tengoku further (hence the lack of word on a fifth game, presumably for the Switch)

I remember when I was younger I tried the Rhythm Heaven demo on my DS but I couldn’t figure it out and just never got around to ever trying a game again. Maybe I’ll have to give it another shot.
a bit if insight (if there isnt a comment talking about this) rhythm heavens creator, tsunku was a former jpop singer and decided "hey i wanna make a rhythm game". So he went to nintendo, pitched the idea, got the game devs to do literal dance classes to improve their rhythm and thats how rhythm tengoku was made. Unfortunately, in around the early 2010s, he announced that he had to get his vocal cords removed because he was developing some sort of cancer in that area around the development of megamix. So communication is shaky with him and nintendo since he literally cannot talk. He has been verbal about his desire to create a new rhythm heaven game on his twitter but it was nothing more than a hope. Which kinda sucks because even if that new game was juat a rehash of every game ported to switch, I'd shell money for it in a heartbeat. I love rhythm heaven to bits. I also have a personal connection to this game. When i forst started playing, i was in a rough spot, socially, on top of that, starting high school. So i had a lot of anxiety around this time (sep 2019). I had heard of rhythm heaven and also at this time, i had homebrewed practically every nintendo console i owned, so I started with ds, since i just install twilight menu to emulate ds games. I installed the game, and i was immediately hooked by the game's charm and artstyle. I had a lot of fun with it (unpopular opinion, i fucking loved lockstep and crop stomp). Once i beat the game and got all of the perfects in a month (i played a lot of instruments growing up, so i had enough rhythmic knowledge to play this game), i started fever on dolphin emulator. Problem was, there was a lot of input lag, causing me to stray away from it, but i got the general idea of it, and had fun with it. Then i got megamix on my 3ds. The same day, unfortunately, I kinda broke my 3ds display, so there was a big black opening on the top right corner plus a huge column of dead pixels in the right (i eventually got a new 2dsxl on my summer birthday, right before the 3ds extinction). So i could only play very simple games, one of those being megamix. Oh my god, that game was so much fun. I finished the whole game within 40 hours (all perfects and challenge trains) and it was soo much fun to just sit back during quarantine late at night playing rhythm heaven. I eventually finished and 100%'d fever once i managed to put it on my wii u through usbloader on my vwii and had fun with that. Around may, i got around to playing rhythm tengoku. While it was all japanese, i didnt care since i knew what most games were called beforehand, plus i could read a bit of japanese and the controls were easy to learn visually. As you can tell, i have a deep connection to this series and i wish, honest to god, that more people played this game series. Its super fun, charming and easy to understand. the lockstep portion made me laugh :) it’s not an incredibly hard minigame as i can do it with my eyes closed but i love hearing everyone’s experiences with it
I think I like Fever the most because it has so many minigames late in the game with unique and complex rhythms. They only had basically two buttons to work with so they had to get creative with how you used them. Catch of the Day, Bossa Nova, Tap Troupe, Shrimp Shuffle, Love Rap, Donk Donk, pretty much all exist as a beginner's introduction to more high concept rhythm patterns.
