To answer your question. Freddie may have had in inkling that he wasn't well at this point but he didn't find out that he was HIV positive until 1987 (despite what the movie says, don't even get me started on that!). Also, Queen have always been a 4 piece band, it wasn't just Freddie then a band. They never officially split up but between 1982 and 1984 they had a little break and Freddie did indeed release a solo album, so did Roger. And again, despite what the movie says, Queen never "reformed" just for this gig. They had an album out the previous year, The Works, that had a full tour.

Only documentaries “have” to stick to fact. It’s just a shame that a lot of folks don’t often make the distinction between the two mediums

It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”
“It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world”
Their impact was summed up by Geldof. “Queen were absolutely the best band of the day,” the Live Aid organizer said. “They played the best, had the best sound, used their time to the full. They understood the idea exactly, that it was a global jukebox. They just went and smashed one hit after another. It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world.”

Can I also say, good on you for calling out those who claim to have 'never heard Queen before' and fake reaction videos. Your reactions to Radio Gaga, Hammer to Fall (the best rocking song ever about the theme of 'we're all going to die', by the way!) and 'Crazy little thing called love' were so clearly genuine.
Just wanted to say, when you watch this again, note how Dr Sir Brian May PhD plays 3 different guitars in 'Crazy little thing'!
And Roger Taylor's vocals are amazing! He doesn't get enough recognition for his role in Queen's Live Aid performance. When you watch 'Somebody to love' from Montreal 1981, you'll see Roger in all his glory!
And the way Freddie simply worships at the greatness that are Brian's solos (especially in 'Hammer to Fall') show the humility of the man. He knew Brian was one of the greats.
Finally, don't take the film version of Queen's history as the truth - it isn't. It's more a 'representation' of the group's history in film form.
Keep going down that Queen rabbit hole, especially live. You won't be disappointed. (My brother saw them at Knebworth in 1986, but I couldn't go - bitter, me? Hell yes! I would have given my right arm to have seen Queen live!). I was 18 when Live Aid happened. I feel 18 again every time I watch this footage. RIP Freddie.

And Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor are brilliant musicians. Don’t forget to give them some love.
So many great songs to choose from. Stone Cold Crazy, Death on Two Legs, Play the Game and Who Wants to Live Forever are some of my personal favorites.

If you talk to the band they will say it was all Freddie but we all know that it takes four men to make this magic.
They couldn't hear anything on stage, they were such professionals that all they needed was a look , a turn of the head, and they knew what to do.

Freddie hadn't even been diagnosed as HIV+ yet at this time. That he knew he was sick is what was said in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie but that was done for the sake of keeping the movie going and creating empathy for the audience. The movie is cramming 20 years into 2 hours so the time line really suffered in the movie. It was not a documentary so things like timeline really weren't all that important. Great concert, Freddie had the audience eating out of his hand from the very start. Live Aid was aid for famine in Ethiopia. Queen never split off until Freddie died. They did take a little time off because they were burnt out from constantly touring and producing albums year after year with no time off. The band had actually done some touring earlier in this same year so they were not broken up. Queen songs you probably haven't heard that are great I would suggest March Of The Black Queen (studio version), White Queen, live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975, You Take My Breath Away live at Hyde Park, Somebody To Love live at Montreal 1981 and Innuendo (studio version) for starters. There is so much great Queen music. There are over 200 songs in the Queen catalog and then there are all the live performances so buckle up! Thank you for your reaction.

I was working that day, but finished in time to catch this on TV. But I was lucky enough to see them at Wembley Arena in 1984 on The Works tour, then again about 20 months later at Milton Keynes Bowl.
I had a little personal interaction with Brian and Freddy. I'd broken my ankle and had crutches. I was using one to air guitar during Tie Your Mother Down, and as we were right by the stage on the wing, Brian saw me, gave Freddie a nudge and they both gave me the "thumbs up".
It's still the best gig I ever went to, and I've been to hundreds.

Live Aid was a global fundraiser to help fight famine in Ethiopia. 16 hours of music broadcast from Wembley and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in 20 minute sets, you just watched the best 20 minutes of all the performances. 39 years later I still get goosebumps. I'll never forget seeing this for the first time. I had just arrived home from an Open University Summer School in 1985, switched on the TV and the Live Aid Coverage was just starting. Status Quo were the openers, followed by this Queen performance that stole the entire show, despite loads of bands and famous faces appearing during the rest of the day and night on both sides of the Atlantic. "Hammer to Fall" is one of my favourite Queen songs. It was featured among other Queen classics on the soundtrack of the movie "Highlander".

I've cried many times at gigs during mass singalongs and I've gone to see bands at festivals for the only reason that I knew there would be mass singalongs, even though I wasn't really a fan. A story I heard about Freddie's battle with AIDS came near the end. It was their last album and they were recording "The Show Must Go On".
Supposedly Freddie was sitting, slumped in a corner drinking massive amounts of whisky , because it was the only thing that kept his body moving through all the pain.
The time came for him to record his part and his bandmates told him he could wait and do it when he felt better. Freddy stood up straight and said "I'm going to fucking nail it Dahling.". And he did.... In one take. After which he slumped back into his corner. He died a few months later.
I have no way to prove this story. But when it comes to Freddie Mercury, I believe it.

This performance was 20 minutes that changed the world....amazing!!! And yes Fereddie had a fever and was told not to perform by his doctor that afternoon. Instead he took the stage and owned both crowds, in England and also in New York on the broadcast screens. The crowd followed his every move on Radio Gaga in both arenas. The man was amazing to watch, and hear. BTW Freddie and Brian came back out later that night to do an improptu performance of "is this the world we created?" because one of the acts were running late....

Great reaction it warms my heart to watch your generation grow to love this group and I'm an old lady who's been a fan since 1971 when they formed.
All the band are educated to degree and higher, all played multiple instruments all have written number one songs all are in American and British halls of rock fame.
There once was a new female singer who loved this group and used one of their songs as her stage name, she was lady Gaga. They influenced Micheal Jackson, boy George and George Michael and many others.
He didn't know he had Aids till 87 but your right he was sick here, he had an on going problem with his throat and was told by his doctor not to perform and the same by the doctor back stage at live aid,but he would never let an audience down. The gig was to raise money for a fammine in Africa.
They never forget that their fans made them remaining humble and grateful till the end. Freddie had to stop touring the last tour was in 86,but he continued to write as did the others and make videos until a few months before his death, despite pain, loosing half a foot and calf, being so thin and not able to sustain he body temperature. In fact he left vocals and music to the band so they could finish it even though he knew he would be dead by then.
All the band was deverstated when he died they had spent 4 years lying and protecting him from the press because of the hateful way the press and others dealt with him being ill. Only family and close friends knew it was AIDS and he announced it generally the day before he died. When he was blind and unable to sing he stopped all meds and slipped away. To be gay and sick with aids in the 80s was a death sentence and misunderstood by the public. Song to check.
Liar live at the rainbow 1974 watch them rock and it has some of the best solos.
Now I'm here live at Wembley one of the last performances and it was an electric show
I want it all studio video, made so close to his death he could no longer hold a mic or move around, but they never forget how to rock.
Somebody to love his favourite song and his mum's live at Milton Keynes 82. there is always something special when they perform in England
That's a few, they made 14 albums so there plenty to choose from you'll have such fun and you views will rocket.
I've subscribed, shared etc can't wait for the next one. There so much more to say, they never broke up although all but John had thriving solo albums. Right if your not asleep 😴 by now I'll leave it there. Good luck xx

The other reactions aren’t necessarily “faking”. I’ve seen plenty where they admit half way thru: “oooooh!!! This is a Queen song?! Everybody knows this!”
That’s why when someone says they’ve never heard Queen, I say: yes, you have. You just don’t know it.
Regardless, Freddie is the absolute greatest of all time. Keep in mind that this wasn’t even a Queen concert. They almost didn’t even play at all. But Freddie stole the show. It’s often referred to as the greatest live performance of all time. He looooooved the people. Truly adored his fans. That’s something that cannot be faked and every person felt it.
The whole world darkened the day he left this earth. That light will never be replaced. Ever.
    Rest in Peace, Freddie. ♥️
