- Jake from B&H takes a look at the Atomos Ninja V, which can record high-resolution 4K in DCI or UHD formats up to 60 fps. Features such as a color-calibrated 5” IPS LCD screen with a 1000 nit LED backlight, ProRes and DNX capabilities, anamorphic de-squeeze, and audio inputs in HDMI/analog formats, make the Ninja 5 an impressive, feature-packed monitor/recorder. Check the video out for even more info and footage.

Amazing recorder/monitor and great value considering the feature set.
Incredible monitor , i loved it , hope one day get like that gear you working with ❤👌😍
He's back! I love him 🥰
I never left ;)
Jake Estes you sly dog you.
I talked to someone from Atomos' USA office and they said that "we know we need the SDI module" and "It's being designed right now". I really hope that's true. Maybe at NAB?
Just purchased this. That footage looks too damn good. Got any settings videos? :)
does this dual record? as in, can you record to your SSD on the recorder and to your SD card on your camera?
That should be possible and is up to the camera more so than the monitor. Just as long as the camera can output through HDMI while recording to its internal media this will work. Most cameras are able to do this.
Thanks!
-Joey P
Is it possible to have redundant video recording in sony a7iii sd card and as well as ssd hard drive on Atamos Ninja v ?
Yes it is. You can record to an SDXC Card internally while outputting to an external recording device with the A7III.
Thanks!
-Joey P
Hey! Great video! Is it possible to get prores 422 4k 10 bit from a7iii paired with the ninja v? I preordered the bmpcc 4k and I want to know can i get the same image quilty from a7iii paired with the Ninja v? Looking forward to your respond!
You will certainly be able to use the Ninja V with the A7III for high quality 4K Pro Res files. However the A7III only outputs 4:2:2 8-Bit through HDMI.
Thanks!
-Joey P
HALLO.
I have a short ninja in and I have a problem with the AVID DN HD HR cd. Does it support the NINJAV these codes? After entering the active activation code, nothing is done, the recorder only records the codec PRORES.
We are sorry to hear about any issues you are facing. So that we can better assist you please email us directly at askbh@bhphoto.com.
Thanks!
-Joey P
I recorded on the ninja V and for some reason, I couldn't hear any audio even when I import it into my computer. When I go on meters, the rec buttons are grayed out. Any ideas?
There may be an issue with the audio export from your camera. Please e-mail us at: askbh@bhphoto.com >Mark S
Did the re-enforce the HMDI ports? I had 2 Atomos that the HDMI ports broke on both and any slight wiggle of the cable it lost connection. happened after only a few times of careful usage on both units. Atomos should really make some sort of lock port connector for these units.
We are not aware of any issues with the HDMI ports. However Shape has released an HDMI Lock System for 5" Atomos Ninja V Recording Monitor, B&H # SHNIVLK. This will certainly help protect your HDMI ports from damage.

Same.
Can this be used as a monitor only and record to the camera's SD card? Can you record to both the monitor and camera?
You are able to use the Ninja V as a monitor and still record on the SD card in the camera. Yes, you are able to record to both the SD card in the camera and the SSD in the Ninja V.
A7s3 records 14 bit externally - is this possible with this ninja ?
I would like to ask you a question, how do I make use of the ninja 5 for unsupported cameras like Sony 6400 and Sony FS5 because their specifications are great. I hope you will give me an answer.
Use the ATOMOS Ninja V as both a monitor and recorder with this caveat: SDI Raw is not supported on Sony FS700, F5, and FS5 cameras.
Atomos monitor-recorders will record from any SDI or HDMI device, however to be useful for professional video purposes the camera or device you are connecting should have a "clean" output that is free of the menu overlays (OSD). Primarily, compatible devices include DSLR, Mirrorless, Video and Cinema cameras but they can also include game consoles, PC's and industrial devices.
The list of compatible cameras checked or tested by Atomos can be found at atomos.com/cameras >Mark
Can I record in 60 fps 4k on this monitor w 24fps 4k settings on my Canon Mark IV?
We're afraid not. A camera most have the ability to output 4K at 60fps for the Ninja V to record it. Unfortunately the 5D Mark IV does not have that ability, it can only output HD signals. You will not be able to record 4K on an external recorder with the 5D Mark IV.
Thanks!
-Joey P
Hi
As soon as i start shooting my Sony A7 s iii with ninja 5 it shows 640 ISO minimum.Checked settings few times on my camera, any ideas why?
With the A7SIII S-Log settings have a base ISO of 640. If you are using an S-Log setting that is what will happen.
Thanks! -Joey P
@@BandH thanks bro.
This is what i thought.was confused by other youtubers
Thanks for the awesome review. Can you record in 4k60 with a 4k30 camera?
You cannot. The camera must be able to output a 4K60 signal for the Ninja V to record in that format.
Thanks!
-Joey P
Is it worth getting this for a 1DXII or should I just still with getting a SmallHD Focus??
The 1DXII outputs HD only through HDMI. You could still use it with the NInja V, but for HD recording only. From there it would be up to you if the ability to record HD was worth the additional expense.
Thanks!
-Joey P
i can t set it up for anamorphic desqueeze... since it will display the black area in the monitor, the ninja can t recognise my gh5 in 4:3 mode....
oh,now i know why,when you doing 50p 422 10 bit out,the ninja WILL NOT doing the 4:3mode desqueeze..
Do you buy the ssd separate?
Yes, the SSD's are sold separately.
When rigging one of these to and a7sii, along with a Mixpre-6ii, should I run the micro hdmi from Sony a7sii to Atomos Ninja V hdmi, then another cable from Ninvja V hdmi to Mixpre-6ii micro hdmi? In other words: hdmi cable = Sony a7sii -> Ninja V -> Mixpre-6ii? Will this allow a7sii to trigger both Atomos Ninja V AND Mixpre-6ii using the camera's record button?
You would want to take the signal from the camera directly in to the Ninja V for sure. Then from there you could use the loop out to go in to the Mixer-6ii. However how well this will work is really something you will want to test out, but that really would be the only way to rig it up.
Thanks! - Joey P
@@BandH What about using an hdmi splitter? This introduces more connections, so not ideal, but have you tried it?
Thanks for making this video! So useful! I'm about to buy the Ninja 5 and I can't buy their expensive HDMI cable. But today i just read (from a seller on Ebay) that if we want to record ProRes RAW, we need the latest expensive cable from Atomos. Is that true or can we record in that mode with a cheaper HDMI 2.0a?
It is possible that other cables could work, but for the best results and an option that is guaranteed to work you'll want to stick with the Atomos Cable.

Thanks! - Joey P
Why would you risk it
Hi, can I capture 10 bit 4k 60 fps from the nikon z6 ii when using this?
The Nikon Z6 II outputs up to 10-bit 4Kp30 4:2:2 video over HDMI to any current Atomos monitor/recorder.

@@BandH Hi Mark, thanks for getting back to me. I am pretty new to this film tech language. So just to confirm, the answer is NO, there is absolutely no way to film in 10 bit, or higher, either internally or with the assistance of an external item, when filming in 4k 60 bit?
Lastly, would it be possible to film in 4k 60 fps via a software update from Nikon? Or is the camera just not physically able?
Thanks for the great video! Are you able to record onto a Canon 80D via the Atmos Ninja V?
Unfortunately, the Canon EOS 80D lacks a clean HDMI output, therefore it cannot record from an Atomos Ninja V.
@@BandH Thanks for your response. There is an HDMI out, are you saying that it doesn't output great quality?
Hi!
Thanks for this important information....!
can you please guide what max resolution and FPS I can get with *Canon C100 Mark1* ???
AVCHD 4:2:0 8-Bit:
1920 x 1080p at 24/25/30 fps (24 MB/s) >Mark
@@BandHHi sir...!
Thank you for replying. I think I couldn't put my question properly. Actually I want to know what output I will get on NINJA V??
For the money it’s a very good product that is supported by dedicated people.
Can someone give me a HONEST replay about PASS-TROUGH latency on Ninja V, I know that the monitor has some latency on screen, what I want to know if the HDMI OUT signal is also processed or it can be just passed trough without any change and no lag?
I need this device to record PC/Console 4K/HDR gameplay without buying a second PC, its nice small package, BUT i need to actually PLAY the game at the same time, so HDMI pass trough is extremely important to me, it has to be clean untouched signal, no delay, no lag.
Does it work with sony A6300?
Indeed it will! >Mark
What about the noise of the fans? I find the monitor useless for using a mic on camera because the fans are too loud :-(
If you have already purchased this product and you are facing an issue feel free to email us directly at askbh@bhphotovideo.com. We will be better able to assist you from there.
Thanks!
-Joey P
does it have Video playback?
Yes it does. You will be able to playback the files!
Thanks!
-Joey P
how long has thing been out?
The Ninja V was just recently released. It is available for purchase on our website at this time.

Allan Sh Since the dawn of time.
the add for this device claims "Eliminate your camera's internal compression and time limits - record up to 4Kp60 10-bit HDR video direct from your camera's sensor over HDMI 2. 0. Teamed with a 1TB Atom SSD mini you can now achieve up to 150 minutes of 4K recording on a single drive!" but will this record 4k 60fps on the sony a7rII even though that camera can only record 4k at 30FPS?? and how can it record 10bit from that camera when that camera only outputs 8-bit 4.2.0??
Unfortunately it will not. The camera must be able to output at 4K 60 and 10-Bit 422 for the Ninja V to record in that format. The A7RII is only able to output 4K UHD at up to 30fps, 8-Bit 422.
Thanks!
-Joey P
Anyone using this with a Sony A7II ?
The Video port is actually for NDI and Timecode which many of us are very patiently waiting for. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1435433-REG/atomos_atomxgige1_modular_expansion_for_ninja.html/mode, www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1435435-REG/atomos_atomxsync1_modular_expansion_for_ninja.html/mode/edu
03:45 You guys meant "Recorded on Ninja V" because the Ninja V is not a camera and I can't shoot.
what cable the use for 4k 60p?
Atomos offers HDMI 2.0 cables that are rated for 4K at 60fps.
HDMI to HDMI - bhpho.to/2vCXFUM
Micro HDMI to HDMI - bhpho.to/2uoegpx
Mini HDMI to HDMI - bhpho.to/2INihjI

-Joey P
How do I set the 4K 60p for Nikon Z7?
According to the user guide for the Nikon Z7, the highest frame rate you can use in 4K is 30 FPS.
can i simply record,, and then play,,, no computers,,, input log
10bit 4k,,, and play out to tv,,, as full hdr 10bit 4k... a quick
log to hdr on the fly converter,,,full 2020 and 2084,,, possible or
not...pls...
The Ninja V does have an HDMI output which you can use to playback footage. You will be able to connect it to a TV with an HDMI connection for playback.
Thanks!
-Joey P
what abt hdr to tv ,,, 2020 and 2084 to tv,,, yes or no,, pls
They should start saying that this device only records 4k60p if you have a camera that can record 4k60p. Right?
That is correct, the camera must have the ability to output at 4K60 for the Ninja V to record that format.
Thanks!
-Joey P.
Did the pearstone HDMI cable support recorded 4K 60 fps?
Hi Ali,
I spoke with Jake, we checked the original footage to double check! And the HDMI cable used in the video, and linked in the description does work: bit.ly/Pearstone-HDMI-Cable . Thanks for checking out the video!
We do not yet carry a Pearstone HDMI cable that is rated HDMI 2.0 for 4K 60fps. However we do have options from Kramer that are rated HDMI 2.0, such as B&H # KRCHMHM6. You could try this cable instead.

Thanks!

B&H Photo Video Hi Joey,
Many thanks for your concern I will do some search about the 2 cable and choose the best
@@BandH so the pearstone HDMI in description does or doesn't record 4k 60P. I see two different responses here.
Tripod?
Hi Mike,
In this video we used the Sachtler FSB-4 Tripod: bit.ly/Sachtler-FSB-4 . Thanks for watching!
The Ninja V has a standard 1/4"-20 thread under it which will allow you to mount it on a tripod, shoe mount or articulating arm.
Thanks!
-Joey P
The cable and exposed connector sticking out the side is horrible. If anyone bumps into it the whole Ninja unit is destroyed.
you are adorable....!!!
So I have a Vazen 40mm 1.8X. GH6 and GH5S + Atomos Ninja V. So what can I tell you guys. GH5S have 3.3K 422 10 Bit 24/25/30p on Card and 3.7K Raw on Recorder. If you take 3.3K on card, through HDMI output is not full screen VIEW. Its only 50% with this desqueeze. If you take 3.7K you have full screen View on Ninja. The same with gh6. BUT gh6 dont have 422 10bit. We have 420 10p on Card. And also non full screen view. If we want 60P on anamorphic mode we have to crop image...So Iam disappointed about this all....
And Ninja 5 have very bad calibration. And need to buy separatly some device to calibrate it...
Isn't wonderful, you arrive on this type of vlog and are supposed to know what the hell he is talking about. Is it me, or should I take an evening class on the Lexicon of video speel?
Jake mate...…. if I know what you were on about I wouldn't need to watch your vlog, I would go straight to the shop and buy my preferred monitor.
Do you know what the viewer of your vlogs is really looking for?
So can I shoot in 4k 60 with my sony a7iii?
The highest frame rate available in the A7 III for 4K video is 30 FPS.
@@BandH So even with the recorder, I am still limited to whatever my camera can produce?
@@GoProMeetsAeon Yes
@@GoProMeetsAeon sad to say YES it is limited. I tried renting inferno and search all over the place on how to record 60p on my a7r3 it didn't work out. It turns out, you need to have a camera that records 4k60p in order to use that option from any atomos monitor.
That is correct. The camera must be able to output the signal for recording. You can certainly still use the Ninja V with the A7III or A7RIII, but it will only record 4K at 30fps.
Thanks!
