    I am a theatrical romantic, and I love and collect hats, and I very much agree with your assessment. The only beanies that look good on me are the ones my mother in law knitted for me, with a lace pattern and a flower in the same colour on it. Turbans I wear more as turban style headbands, because the sporty headbands don't look good. I have occasionally saved a hat by putting some trim on it, making it go from plain sunhat to 50s riviera.
    Now all I need is the guts to walk around with a hat everyday...

    I never wear hats because of how my hair looks afterwards, but now I really really want a cocktail hat with a veil (TR here). And wear it to some fancy event that will probably only happen in my imagination😄

      A couple decades ago I got bored and made a little fascinator hat. Eventually I got rid of it, but it was cute and it was kinda fun to make it (paper mache covered in fabric with a few feathers and a fancy hat pin). This is making me want to make another one and host a tea party so I can wear it. :) Maybe you can get a fancy hat and host a tea party, or a just because I want to be fancy party. :)

    I’m a dramatic and never wore a hat easily until I had to start wearing them at work as part of a costume-like uniform. And then I realized that wider brims balanced me out so much better. I had gotten stuck with a size L (unisex) for my felt gambler hat (a western style). When our costume check-out received a batch of new ons, I went to get a smaller size and realized not only was the crown smaller, but the brim too, and it made me look even more tiny-headed than I am! So in considering hats for everyday wear, I definitely am drawn to wider brims. I have a panama hat that’s perfect for casual sunny days and hot weather with a wider brim than many fedoras have today.

    One aspect of hat wearing that’s often left out is: how does the silhouette look from the side? How are your skull and neck shaped at the back? This strongly affects how a hat looks on you when viewed from the side. (Like when a man is walking beside you.) Also your type of neck makes a huge difference on which hats you can wear.

    3 minutes in- paused to look up the Kibbe book to follow along; only to learn it’s a rare, out of print item. Ally’s basically translating it’s contents to us.
    For anyone who knows since I’m just getting here, do you basically want to dress in as much alignment with your type as possible? So if you’re romantic or gamine, go with soft things and if you’re dramatic or natural, go with more angular things, etc?

    • @guodaripinskaite6314
      @guodaripinskaite6314 Pƙed rokem +1

      In theory, to look the most balanced - yes. But it’s not a rule, rather, an explanation one thing on a gamine might look elegant and sophisticated, while on a classic or dramatic the very same thing might look very daring, childish or fun.
      However, as detailed and varied as the theory is, i think exceptions still happen all the time, and although it might work in pictures, the personality and style of a person might not align to the physical Kibbe type. It’s a nice guideline though!

    • @cicihoustonsudholt1452
      @cicihoustonsudholt1452 Pƙed rokem

      I use it to streamline my shopping process, so for instance, as a TR, when I go into a shop looking for an evening gown, I eliminate anything without waist- emphasis right away. It's so much more efficient, and I've stopped filling my closet with things I don't enjoy wearing!
      That said, my essence has its own range, so while I go for TR cuts and fabrics, sometimes the details may lean more towards a classic vibe, or ethereal, or....etc.
