For your first style video could you pleeeease do Corporate/professional style for the body types?
Sincerely,
An FG who wants to look mature and be taken seriously at work
This vid by Lovett ebubechi discusses professional style for flamboyant famines: czcams.com/video/S09XBbEJz2k/video.html you can also find videos on casual or professional style for every other type, including the pure types. The professional series is ongoing. I think she still has to do classics and dramatic classics
@@Mrg524 Thanks!
Goth gamine: *Wears black head to toe*.
David Kibbe: That’s death for you!
Goth gamine: … So… that’s a win? 💀🖤
I’m a fellow gamine ( soft) that mostly wears black 😛😆
@@Weeflowerofscotland me too xD i hate how i look in colors. i basically wear black, grey, dark blue and sometimes light grey or white. i really love classic type clothes... i feel so wrong in gamine clothes even tho i am a gamine ^^
Great sense of humor there!
Gamine here....I wear black head to toe most of the time...Neutrals some of the time....Monochrome ALL the time. I do not look good in bold colors :(
@@verica4b Maybe your body is gamine but your essence is classic?
As someone who's been on a style journey for about 3-4 years now I just want to give a HUGE recommendation to everyone else on a journey to learn about 12 Seasons colour and get draped by an expert analyst if at all possible!! I was draped as a Bright Winter by the inimitable Christine Scaman and it changed my whole life!!
I love it because it's like getting your Kibbe ID from David himself - you find out and then that's it. Peace, clarity. I have NO DOUBT in my mind that my colours are correct and perfect, I will never need to question them again. It's a scientific process that you see happening right in front of your face so you will not be left with any doubt! A draping by an expert is not cheap, I'll admit, but I am lucky enough to live a few hours away from Christine and I signed up to be a draping model for one of her classes - I got my draping and fan absolutely free! There's always a way if you're motivated enough.
You can probably educate yourself enough to narrow down to just 2-3 likely seasons too, or just down to your base Season (Summer, Winter, etc), and that alone will be leaps and bounds better for your wardrobe! I can't stress how much easier and more streamlined shopping and dressing is once I'm able to exclude 11/12ths of clothes in the shop to just the ones that will actually flatter me! It made choosing a cohesive personal palette a snap, I've never looked better or been so confident, and I LOVE my colours but I never would have thought to wear them if I'd still be on my own. Again, if it's at all possible for you just do it! It's by far the single most powerful thing I've done for my style.
Agreed. I cannot afford a professional but I know I'm an autumn and it did make picking out an outfit, shopping and closet editing much easier. :)
It also explained a lot in retrospective.
I'm a goth flamboyant gamine and it always makes me giggle when I hear that I look best in bright colors 😂 I think it would be cool to see a "goth fashion for the body types" video! Probably not going to happen but just a funny thought 😊
Those were exactly my thoughts as someone who's closest is about 90% black lol
Oh gosh, I would kill for a “goth fashion for the body types” video!
Examine what colour season palette you are. From spring to winter, soft, balanced (true spring) or deep. I am a dark autumn. I look best in warm and deep colours. Also neutrals like cream and black.
I think FG looks good when they mixed dark colors with Neon colors, but it just my opinion after all i'm not an expert. and this are only recommendations not rules.
Yeah I think goth is like, basically made for FGs because of the contrasts in black, white, reds and dark colors that I’ve seen in goth fashion
Thank you for teaching great information! So many of the youtubers who talk about Kibbe focus on the 'vibe' instead of the actual information. For example, I'm soft natural and soooo many videos talk about really muted colours and monochromatic looks in very flowy clothing and you show how bright we can actually go. I've always intuitively been drawn to a mix of bright and natural colours which made me think I was soft gamine based on people's videos saying I had to wear toned down clothes for soft natural which is not what is in the book. Thank you again!
I will love to see her talking about Korean pop idols, even if Kibbe will never verified them, some of them are so good examples. Minnie of Gidle is in my pov Soft Natural, but because the concept of the groups she wear a lot of black and white clothes.
Soft natural -
vibrant and rich
Bright and pastels - base
Soft neurals + vivid accenting
Break up dark colours
Use dark colours for accents or for colour combinations
Bright and soft > stark contrasting combos
Wild combos (bright bright) are good
Monochromtic, head to toe dull - not good
I'm suprised by how on point this is! I've always naturally graviated towards dressing like that as well ☺
I am redesigning my 2022 wardrobe with solid colors and splashing it up with scarves.
Its the hidden secret 🤫 that your mother never told you about. Plus, its economical !
Just gonna leave a like before I even watch the video cause they are ALWAYS so helpful💗💗
I’m starting to do the same 😂😂 I lover her and her channel.
Yes 👏🏾
Same
This is why kibbe shouldn't be taken too seriously. I'm a pale olive and any bright or pastel colors make me look like a corpse. Cool for halloween but terrible anytime else. If I don't wear pure white or deep, rich jewel tones I just look ill
......so what bright or pastel colors are in your costume today? 👀👀👀
Same. Well, not too pale more medium but I have THE hardest time figuring it out. I'm either a deep winter or a deep autumn and I'm a romantic.
Yes. I'm a pale olive, deep autumn Romantic. I wear earthy jewel-tones but make sure to incorporate lots of sparkle and softness in the look. That works for me.
I am soft natural and most that was said, doesn't just feel me. Color analysis got it pretty right for me. 😍
It's always worth remembering that Kibbe based his types with a very US-celebrity focus in the 80s. His system is inherently racially/ethnically skewed because of that. (The biggest example is that his height limits excluded most Dutch people altogether because they're just taller on average!)
Video idea! How to bring in the sexy or sensual or flirty/feminine/girly nature of romantic, soft, or ingenue preferences when in contexts (such as serious workplace) where there are dress codes or need to be taken seriously enough. So to feel like our authentic style but not come across too sexy for the context.
Ooof…try being a True Winter Romantic working in corporate America: It’s like living life on hard mode.
I was prepared to disagree with this based on other color analysis, but as a TR, the recommendations are absolutely spot on. Kibbe may have gotten tired of relying on his book (understandable), but it still holds great insights.
Wow, all the knowledge you convey in these videos adds up over a while! When I first started understanding Kibbe through your videos I couldn't figure out where I fit. Now I not only know with certainty what my type is (Soft Classic) but I can tune in to the finer details when styling myself. For instance, I love rich dark colors but anything matte or heavy material looks blah on me. The tip about wearing dark colors that have a sheen or are a very soft fabric is a game changer. All the tips for Soft Classic are spot on. My wardrobe has never suited me better.
honestly i prefer to focus on my season color palette rather than kibbe's colors. maybe combining both can work pretty well but it makes more sense to me to look at my undertone, hair color and eye color
Thank you Aly for your fantastic work🦋
I feel that Kibbe's color recommendations are more from his use of types as an essence, as opposed to being related to a literal body shape/type.
I have a soft gamine body with more of a soft classic essence, so his color recommendations for classic would be what I use.
I have a similar opinion. Colors have little to do with "lines" and much more with "vibes". So I think it's more about the essences. But it's still interesting.
AND, as someone else said, getting at least a rough idea of one's color season really help finding colors that are flattering and harmonious with one's face :)
Could you please do a video about which fashion eras suit which body types best? E.g I've always thought 1970s for Naturals, 1960s for Gamine etc.
Wedding dresses for the types!!
You do a great job Alyona, very well done.👌🏻💜
I'm a Romantic and it seems I've always gravitated towards wearing colours in a way which complements my yin balance best, although I do dip into the richer, shinier Theatrical Romantic colours when I want to look a bit more bold.
Aly, I want to thank you so much for this video! It has opened my eyes, finally! I have been trying to convince myself that all I need to wear is neutrals, monochromatic outfits, all has to be black or beige otherwise i won’t look good. But I have always liked colour and I like mixing and matching and finally I know that it has been right for me from the start! I won’t be restricting myself any more, it feels so good and liberating!
Love it! Next you can do best fabric for each body type!
Aly, You are always an inspiration and Your videos are huge help.
Yes, color has an information, an energy attached to it.
Of course, color does not determine style and style has no restrictions with a colour, but it is much easier to be Dramatic in strong, bold colors than in delicate, soft, muted colors.
So helpful, thank you xx
Ayyyyyy I LOVE THIS !!!!!!
As a Dramatic and Dark Winter agree on these. No pastels or light colours for me but dark smokey, muted neutrals yesss and contrasts, B&W all day everyday :)
I am Dramatic and Bright Winter and it suits me well too.
You Are both lucky....
I really really need this!!!!! Thank you
I’ve loved all the pieces you choose for this video 😍. Even when I’m a FN I’m so fascinated by other styles you’re shiwing on this video.
I’m also FN but I thought the outfits looked clownish.
can you do a cold weather styling compilation for your body types?
Love this such great info! I’m torn between a being a petite soft classic, theatrical romantic and soft gamine. This was helpful as I see I’m natural drawn and look best in soft classic colors with TR shapes. ❤️
Hi Aly. Yes very interesting and educational.
I LOVE your videos they are so helpful
Thank you Aly, very interesting. As a Soft Natural I like all Natural lines and I play with it. As a Winter Type I dress often with a lot of contrasts, not so much as recommended for SN 🤔 I give it a try I think
I am SN too. But i look my best in dark colours. Pastels are the worst.
Love this, thank you Aly! 🤍✨ I am a soft natural 🌸🎉🎉
Is funny and interesting how I already kind of knew this things (what looks good and what looks bad on me) but Kibee (and Aly) are the scientists who put all this info together and it makes a lot of sense!
thank you so much Aly
Hi Aly, very good Video!
Dark Autumn Soft Classic here 🙌🏼
Thank you again for your great content. Can you make a video explaining what Kibbe means by ”breaking all the rules”?
I love your glasses
Thank you Aly! My sister is a flamboyant gamine and I wish I was, too! It’s so edgy and fun. I think it’s my favourite! Can’t wait to show her this.
@xxoh fayfay Agree w you- I wish I could be a different Kibbe type too but I look slovenly wearing loosely constructed, flowy things [not that that’s Gamine]. Cool that you’re sharing this vid w your sis
I think any type can look edgy and fun if they balance the style recommendations right!
@@cUser691 I’m not even sure what I am but I know what you mean! I love the power in soft dramatics, but I’m 5’2! I get enjoyment seeing all the different kinds of women in beautiful clothes. Brings me joy. X
@@DillyBlue absolutely agree and I am a testament to that! However, Jessica Alba (for example) is never going to pull off that Zoe Kravitz vibe and a lot of that is the harmony between her style and her kibbe type. There’s just a way that flamboyant gamine can push the boundaries that I love. All the types are beautiful for sure
Hi Aly! Could you provide subtitles in Portuguese, please? I'm from Brazil and here I don't find professionals like you who approach this subject with such richness. Thank you!
Aly!!! Wedding dresses for each body type would be amazing and helpful ❤️
She made this video, finally 🎉
Please do a video of wedding dresses for the different types!
Notification squad!!! 💗
I am a deep autumn, theatrical romantic. I look best in deep and warm colours. Like olive, mustard, expresso, copper, burgundy, eggplant. Also black and cream. I have fair olive skin during winter and more golden olive skin during the summer.
I thought that as a Natural I should wear natural colors (brown, pastels, muted green etc) ...but now I find out that it looks boring on me😥 i love monochromes..and really don't like bright colors and patters😣
The more I know..
Same. Just add a scarf, we'll be fine 😂
Same lol! So i am going to add some accessories to add some patterns and brightness!
Thank you
I'm a TR, but I hate the recommended style so much!!! It doesn't fit my taste at all and it feels like a costume. I'll just keep doing what I like 🤷🏻♀️
It’s not the style. It’s about lines and siloughette
@@AlyArt Agree. Once I switched to more constructed, more linear garments and purposeful accessories, it was a GAME changer. The lines and proportions make my wardrobe pop. Thanks, Aly.
I’m a TR. I try to think about it as the lines/shapes rather than a particular style. I am a very serious person, and I work in the legal field. I gravitate toward an academic style, and I need to be taken seriously, which goes with my serious essence. I don’t dress in a fluffy or overly glamorous way. I just think about the lines-waist emphasis, some sharpness, draping instead of stiff tailoring, etc. Those general guidelines, along with knowing my colors & avoiding some things I know do not work, can make a lot of different styles wearable.
My body type is the only one that Kibbe doesn't talk about: Ingenue. Could you talk about some of the details of that body type? Colors, patterns, silhouettes, etc.
I had to watch the SN section twice because there was so much information packed into it. Yes, all of it makes sense to me and will inform my future choices.
The more I watch these videos, the more confused I get 🤦♀️ so, the best way is to see what style look good on me the most and that will be body type. Monochromatic suits me very well, so I guess I'm classic 😅
Honestly, I've kinda resorted to typing myself that way as well haha Like, I'm 5'5", so I'm considered slightly too tall for a R or TR, but I've ALWAYS felt I look best in those silhouettes/color schemes. And I noticed I get the most compliments when I dress that way. Maybe just cause I feel/look more comfortable.
@@LemonadeLaura The subreddit has a general rule that if you think you're R or TR but you're too tall, you're either SG or SD lol. Apparently it's so common that it's become a shortcut of sorts.
@@Kiterpuss Or SN too. I thought I was TR but i'm more yan from the body structure, while being soft everywhere else with muscle. My vertical line isn't long, I may be tall but my limbs are short. I eventually figured out I'm SN and been so happy 'cause I love the style so much more :D
I think it is one of the key element for classics. Since I'm not very contrasted, I feel like colours are really what makes me look off rather than the structure of the clothes.
Hi Flo, so which colours you are wearing? Iam DC + pale with blue-grey eyes + darkblond/silver hairs: iam clear summer + muted colours (not too bright Like baby-blue/Pastell) Look good near my face. Greetings from Germany
Hi! Thanks a lot for your videos, they help a looot.
Could you do a video on Helena Bonhan Carter style and body type? Thank you so much.
I'm a dramatic but feel like this doesn't apply to me since I have soft/muted coloring. Bold colors just make my face disappear in them and don't compliment me.
Something that I have notice to differentiate flamboyant gamines from theatrical romantics is that if they were Neon colors, TR can look a little overwhelmed, is not like it look bad, is just that in FG looks better or makes their irregular yang more noticeable.
You could be right....
Do a video about how the types look when they are underweight plsss
Round face total make over pls
Think you 😍
I was confused whether I was TR or SC (I wear TR make-up and it suits me), but I guess now I know I’m SC...blended/soft monochromatic looks and warm neutral colors look good on me. Black can look good, depending on the material, it needs to be a jet black and a soft or luxurious material. I also look good in white (not stark white, but ivory or cream), pastels (soft pinks, sea foam green, baby blue, lilac) and certain rich, jewel-tone colors (plum, maroon, green) look fantastic. But bright colors are usually ‘too much’ on me, I can’t wear tomato red, orange or mustard for example, even though they are recommended for my coloring. I also don’t look good in multicolor looks (or head to toe in one color rather than softly blended) and color blocking can look severe on me (too much color contrast), though black + ivory combo looks good. I guess I’m a Deep Autumn Soft Classic like Jessica Alba.
I am a soft gamine, and even before I knew my body type, I tended to sway toward colors and patterns you mentioned.
Love red on you
I'm so grateful for your videos... I have donated half of my clothes since then and I feel much much better now that I know how to dress up a flamboyant gamine :D
I'm a soft classic and I love monochromes for me!
Good vid
Awesome
I'm soft classic and I usually wear black, red, gray, white, and earth tones 😀
Me, a FG, that prefers wearing neutrals:
👁👄👁
Create your own rules...Audrey Hepburn wore monochromatic outfits and head to toe black, she actually dressed minimalist. Looking at her minimalist outfits, I even feel like she may have actually been a Dramatic Classic because she looks so good in them.
So that s why I look bleah every time I wear contrast, I m a classic and it is not enough to pay attention to cut and style of clothes, but also color😮 We would like more info in this topic please
Just found out I’m a romantic body type and I got smacked in the face by that “might not look their best in monochromatic color schemes”
Olá Aly! Tudo bem? Seria possível você disponibilizar legendas em português? Sou do Brasil e não entendo muito o inglês!
Obrigada!!!
Do any other soft gamines hate wearing bright colours cause they feel like it makes them look younger and more child like?
Yes I'm the same!! Was just thinking this. I want to have colour to be creative and bright but I feel like I look like I'm playing dress up or wearing a 12 yr old clothing. I think the key probably is to make a proper head to toe and have great style that's very creative so it looks put together and breaks the rules. But saying is easier than doing 😭
yep so I stick to bright colours for shoes, belts and accessories, that is what makes me feel comfortable :)
Me, a summer SD with low-contrast:
instructions unclear, will stick to all grey outfits
I like the indicated pictures but what each category is should be explained otherwise is just confusing
im romantic but love neon contrast and mixes like ..Gammines !
Can you do how to do curls on each body type?
Merriam Style Made a video about that recently. It’s worth checking out
OMG i got a like from Aly! Luv u Aly xoxo
I am still not sure how to find out what I am.
How do you find your body type if you were born 'compact?' Short neck, short waist, etc
Zendaya would be a great example for the kibbe test as well
I’m a soft autumn who is a soft natural who loves dark chomo colors 😩😩
Well what if I'm a romantic with a clear+2 complexion (aka pale skin and dark hair) do i go for clear bold colors or softer romantic ones? Please answer me Aly
Hey Aly! 👋 I'm a DC with SD face and I'm a medium/dark summer. What's best for me?
I need advice on where to shop… I’m at a weird point (38). Post forever 21 and ModCloth at this point, but can’t afford to buy designer. I would like to go more vintage and colorful, as a romantic. Help!
This doesn't work with seasonal color analysis.
Thanks Aly! So, as a SD Summer, doing bright + dark is not exactly that easy. I read somewhere that that system says SD are winter types, which is ridiculous. Do you have any suggestions for SD summers - coloring and styling? Thank you.
True summer actually has some quite bright and dark colors--for instance, navy (which as a soft summer, I can't wear), chocolate brown, and charcoal gray, plus colors like burgundy and a deep forest green, if I remember correctly. Also some bright blues. And while summers can't wear winter's bright white, you can wear soft white, which would still contrast well with a dark or bright color. (Have you checked out the palettes at concept wardrobe? They're excellent.)
Summers have quite a lot of lush jewely tones that look very lush and glam Barbara Streisand is a summer sd I find purples are a good go to as well as pastel looks with some lush additions x
Me a SC who loves grunge goth and all dark :')
Why I look bad in black if Im a high contrast :( is because im TR? Idk but i look tired white looks better on me
Idk how to figure out what body type I have I e done the quizzes a million times but doesn’t seem right I have a lot of romantic type answers but have broad shoulders and bony bones lol idk
I think I don’t have a Kibbe type because I look bad in every type of line and color lol
Same I just wear all black
Then haircut is off probably
Hi, Aly! Xo I remember you once saying that hair might be more important than makeup. I’ll experiment to see what works. Ty!
can anybody link the photo on 2:26 or at least read the title of the top right corner color scheme? Please
I am a FN with a dark autumn color palette. As most of the colors are blackened, suggestions on how to come off as bold and vivid?
Choose the boldest colors from the palette. It won’t be too bold, but it will look more vivid on you. However, I think FNs look great in monochromatic and darker, richer looks because they have some drama to them.
@@cozybrandi The problem with vivid is my skin is more muted. Vivid and bold tend to overpower me. The thing is I don't like lots of color especially bright. I totally agree with you about the monochromatic deeper and richer.
@@Anita-silver That’s why I said the brightest from your palette. So if you’re a dark autumn that would be a rich burgundy, burnt orange, olive green, etc. You can try muted but slightly brighter versions of those colors.
@@cozybrandi I'll continue to experiment with the brighter end. My hair is going white/silver so may have to reexamine again soon!
Could you do a video on personal color? I can't tell if I'm Dark Autumn or Deep winter.
I'm also stuck between those two! I'm like a medium olive but I also have some yellow in me... and my cheeks get pink though. Confusing af
Dark Autumn is warmer and softer, Dark Winter is cooler and brighter. What they have on common is their best colours are deepened and quite contrasted. They are not extremely clear nor extremely muted, not extremely warm nor extremely cool. Dark Autumn represents November, Halloween, long autumn evenings. Dark Winter represents December, early Winter, Christmas, winter nights, midnight sky.
@@peacefreedomandwealth Well explained! Love your answer!
What if your season; your hair color, eye, and skin color, clash with your type? For example I'm a fg but when categorizing my face using the seasons I'm a soft autumn which totally contrasts with FG since they are not supposed to use neautral colors. Maybe just stick to soft autumn makeup and colors near face?
YOu just choose the brightest and contrasted shades of your own pallette.

👍👍👍👍
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can you create an interesting monochromatic outfit if you are a flamboyant gamine?
Maybe by using different interesting textures..
What if your color season and body type do not match regarding the recommendations? for example, I am a SD but also a soft summer (color season), what works best for people like me?
Brightest and richest from your pallette
she talks about pastels at 3:24 and the outfit shown could easily be recreated using soft summer colors. also berry colours could give you that bold vibe.
@@AlyArt thank you so much for your reply! did not expect that
@@sunnybutter2364 yes I saw the pastel outfit later on, thank you :) berry is a good idea! maybe some greyish-blue as well
I am also a SD with a soft summer coloring, and my tip is look into “ jewel tone “ summer ( true summer) those colors are very similar but go a little bit darker and brighter. I have found however that we still sometimes need to use some black because of the contrast and the sleekness that it gives. If i go to muted with the colors then the contrast is gone and then we can look boring. True summer is still slightly soft but not as soft as soft summer. And yes the dusty blue is amazing on us especially combined with dark grey or soft black to give that contrast.
