  • Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
So today we have reached, final friday of Sanguinius week! And what better way to finish off, than with Sanguinius confiding his regrets, with his brother Roboute Guilliman.
The events we are discussing today are from the Horus Heresy novel "Pharos" by Guy Hayley. As always I really recommend you read the novel for yourself first. Because that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself! Not only that but we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them, we don't have this amazing lore to discuss! Link: www.blacklibra...

Sanguinius truly understood Curze. The others just wrote him off as insane and bitter. Unfitting for their "Perfect" world.
But Sanguinius truly relates to his tormented brother. They are both cursed, both legions are bloodthirsty and terrifying and both are willing to admit the truth.
Their precious, infallible Father lied to them all.
Sanguinius just had the strength and luck to rise above the hate and the pain.
Poor Konrad never had a chance. There was no loving family or wise mentor on that shit hole Nostramo.

Yeah I love how Sanguinius was the one Primarch who was willing to help Curze. Heck, he was willing to take whatever punishment the Emperor would set upon Curze.
We all know that Vulkan was a real nice guy, but even he was never willing to give Curze such a chance. Just goes to show how Sanguinius was the best brother of them all.

    • @Buhlmanzky

Curze was cruel and used his role as an excuse to act out his crazy slaughter and torture,Sanguinius and his legion might have been cursed but what made them heroes was that they fought against their urges, the Night Lords just used their " nature " as an excuse to be power armored criminals.
Curze should have been put down way sooner, him and Angron should have never been allowed into the great crusade, let alone having a legion been given to them....thats like giving a four year old a machine pistol.

Guilliman is, amongst all Primarch, the one that embodies the Emperor's ideals the most.
He's not loyal to the Emperor as much as he's loyal to his idea of what the Imperium of Man ought to be. This hasn't changed one bit in the 41th Millenium.
After all, Ultramar was already modeled after the Emperor's ideas even before him finding Roboute.

why didnt the big E tell people and the primarchs about the warp?
The brother-on-brother battles of the Heresy had once seemed the height of madness to Guilliman. That was before he had fought directly against the powers who had manipulated his brothers, poisoned their hearts and brought mankind close to apocalypse. To fight daemons was to fight nightmares. They were the fever-sick imaginings of the mad and perverted, the lonely and the afraid. Every whim, every dark desire, every wayward thought was a seed that grew in the churning of the warp. Legions of daemons trod the soils of Terra during the siege. For a long time, Guilliman questioned why his father had kept the secrets of the warp to Himself. He had fought daemons so many times that their impossibility became normalised. But it was only after his awakening and his exposure to the Cicatrix Maledictum that he truly understood what the Emperor had been trying to do, that these things were not his father’s true enemies, but rather their source was. Revealing the truth of daemonkind would have strengthened them enormously, for men would never have been able to put them from their thoughts.
The Emperor had been trying to save mankind from the horror of its own mind.

I hate when people say Robute is boring, hes not boring id argue he is just the most human out of all of them. In that he isnt overly violent like angron, nor is he as emotionally contained as the khan or the lion. He also doesn't value human life as little as the night haunter, while not crossing the border that Vulcan seemingly does into over valuing every last person to the detriment of strategic military objectives. In general I think robute is what most people would be if they where endowed with all of the abilities of a primarch.

I disagree he is the most boring, because he had a reasonably stable upbringing which also reflects on his ideals and success. Others like the death lord or angron had to be saved from certain death there was no happy ending. The primarchs that landed on death worlds had to fight to survive. What was his biggest trial like compared to the others?

As malcador said, knowledge of the warp and the ruinous powers would have led to more than just horus falling. Horus didn't even seek out chaos, treachery was at fault there, but had he known about it, or had the other primarchs known about it, they would have focused on it and no matter their intentions, they would have fallen to it. Imagine if Dorn or Roboute had fallen to it with Horus. Malcador shut that hindsight down with the final word on it and he knows the warp just like the Emporer does. This is the authors way of letting us know this, so having an opinion opposed to that is kind of bad reading comprehension. Literary tactics are kind of universal when it comes to story telling and I've always found them to be pretty obvious. The only things left to personal interpretation are the subjects that we are left absolutely in the black about which is an economic tactic. Like the Emporers origin... There isn't one. Because its a corporation, They'll decide on one when they feel like it's more profitable than not giving one to us. I feel like you, Wolf Lord Rho, always hit the nail on the head when it comes to what you think. I don't think that you "think", I think you that you "know" because of comprehensive reading skills.

Sanguinius was not only his brother, but his closest and most beloved friend.

Lorgar is a bitch, we can all agree on that BUT
"By the way, in the Horus Heresy novels it's seen he actually cared a lot for all of his brothers and tried to befriend them. Closest to him among his brothers was perhaps Magnus, which is more than you can say about some loyalist primarchs. Though with different approaches, they were both more scholars than warriors, with lifelong pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. And both felt more or less distanced from others due to their interests ad ideologies. So its natural that the Religious Preacher and a Philosopher King saw kindred spirits in eachother. He was also pretty much the only one who cared about Angron in some way and actually ran the ritual which transformed Angron into a Daemon Prince, thus freeing him of the Butcher's Nails and premature death. He even seems to be good friends with Leman Russ, referenced in Betrayer given that Russ read something Lorgar wrote and thought that was some spiritual shit worth remembering, which is pretty significant considering how down-to-earth this guy was. Also in The First Heretic, Magnus tells Lorgar that Russ argued for preserving Lorgar's place in the crusade and sparing him excommunication when the Emps was pondering kicking Lorgar to the curb. More significantly, when Lorgar asked Russ and Magnus to stop fighting, they actually listened. The two Primarchs who just might have had the most mutual hatred stopped fighting because Lorgar asked them to." (source is 1d4chan)

Also I believe there's no good answer to the question of if the Emperor was right or wrong to keep the knowledge of Chaos and the gods from his sons. Yes they could have been armored by the knowledge, but that doesn't mean they couldn't still be tempted by the dark powers. I mean you can't say that knowledge would have stopped Lorgar from siding with Chaos, and who knows if it would have helped Horus any. Also you'd have to ask if Fulgrim would have recognised the Lair Blade for a Daemon weapon if he'd known about Chaos. I feel like Angron would have fallen to Khonate worship sooner or later because of the damned nails as well. Perterabo, well who knows really what would have happened, maybe if he'd known what the Obliterator Virus would do to a number of his sons. As with anything in 30k or 40k, it's extremely complicated.

To be fair to Big E, the chaos gods are only called gods because that's the limit of language. They match the description of what we intuitively call gods. Language that the primitive lifeforms of the galaxy use simply all use the term god to refer to the ineffable. People just refer to them as gods but they are just extreme and immense manifestations of emotions and actions and whatnot. None of the classical religions in our time really share that much in common with the chaos gods so I think big E isn't mistaken to say that gods don't exist, nor do demons, only that people have communicated with beings of the warp and witnessed demons and chaos. While he could've explained it fully and protected his dream better I think he gets a bad reputation for claiming something which isn't necessarily false. It is quite mad however that big E didn't keep a closer eye on his primarchs and legions especially if he new the ruinous powers want them.
