4 years ago I named my daughter Valentine after you. During pregnancy, when comes the time to choose the name you give to your child, we were with her mother immersed with your playing of the the third concerto. I feel forever proud, and hope one day when she's a bit older we'll be able to come and see you play so beautifuly this marvelous piece and others, and tell her "this is why you're called Valentine, such a beautiful name, after Valentina Lisitsa". Even now she recognises you playing. Thank you so much...!
agree-- the first time i heard it was from lang lang on a street piano here on youtube, and he made that thing sing. still one of my favorite solo piano performances of any piece!
I met you at a corner deli. This girl walks in, a spittin' image of you, hair, face, body. Same voice. I swear same personality. A genuine doppelganger. And she never heard of you. There was NO WAY I wasn't going to talk to her and tell her about you! There was sort of a crowd forming as I was talking to her. She had a smart phone and was very surprised when she saw you. It was a very special moment for me. I never saw her again.
I fell in love with Classical Piano the moment I had a few minutes of exposure to Rachmaninoff's 2nd concerto while I was only 12 years old in the 2nd to 3rd trimester of 6th grade in 1998...
While I was 12 years old in 6th grade, I never fell in love with the piano until I was actually exposed to Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto, and remember not being able to repeat how much I wanted to play a piano composition by Rachmaninoff. I cannot wait until my brand new baby grand piano arrives just so I can study classical piano all over again. Maybe by the time I am in my early 40's I can accurately and passionately learn this specific movement of Rach 3.
What a beautiful movement. I especially enjoyed the last 2 minutes on the upper octave but the whole piece is extraordinary. Valentina you are so brilliant.
It is fascinating to hear a concerto work played without the orchestra. Can't believe I didn't 'CZcams' this before! Spent far too much time at university listening to music and being in the choir instead of reading physics, so know this concerto well. With that I too can 'hear' the orchestra and it is fun to exercise the mind like that... trying to place where the orchestra is in relation to the piano. My favourite section in this movement is between 6.13 and 7.08 in this video- a sort of dance between the orchestra and the piano. My sincere compliments to the pianist for giving everyone the opportunity to observe this work from the piano's point of view. Please do much more of that! Happy listening everyone!
Valentina Lisitsa, Bravo!...perfectly cut diamond that you are...you create a full symphoney of Rachmananoff Concerto No. 3 with Bosendorfer Imperial...thank you for this heavenly gift to all the world...flawless interpretation of the most beautiful music ever created.
Amazing performance of my favourite concerto, I saved it to my CZcams favourites. So much more detail can be heard without the orchestra playing and I can now hear that detail in the full version making it even better! Many thanks.
The madly-ascending, fiendish chords at the intro to the theme---well, I've never heard anyone do them so perfectly!! What joy!! Thank you for these uploads V.
My favorite phrase of all the Rach concerti begins at: 6:11 and continues through to the end of this movement. Rach was the master of a repeated note or sequence of notes.
This is a wonderful thing you have done Valentina: created this recording without the orchestra. This is valuable to those who are studying piano, and to those who enjoy listening. Your ease and control are exquisite, and it's so refreshing to hear the melody brought out in the inner voices. In addition to your shining virtuosity you have the complete musical understanding of this piece. Thank you for sharing your gift! I recently played a piano you played: the little theatre in Oriental, NC!
Valentina, with performances like this you have reserved your place in the Pantheon of the greatest pianists, next Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Schnabel, Argerich, and only a handful of others. The clearness and beauty of your interpretations, and your emotional commitment is beyond anything imagined. Thank you for posting.
I wish, I wish I could play this! I started playing too late; school was already a big burden on me, and now that I'm in college and working, finding it so hard to find time to practice! A pleasure to listen...
At 72yo and having god-only-knows how many versions of Rach 3, I thought I had it covered. Not so!. Watching this I was surprised to discover myself weeping. Thank you so much Valentina
Hola Valentina: Eres una extraordinaria pianista, tus manos sobre el teclado se mueven con tan armonía, que parecen las olas del mar movidas por las brisas marinas. Besos desde Barcelona.
Particularly fond of your first ten minutes. Many twists and turns not heard before.Still getting used to the sound of your big B after all those years of Rachsteins. Looking forward to hear the whole thing .See if it kicks my fav 1966 Weissenberg/Chicago symph. recording out of my brain :Thx a lot again for so freely sharing your work :)
Thanks dear valentina, their performances are of great weight and feeling. I wish you a Merry Christmas and hopefully visit again in 2013 Colombia (medellin preferably lol) Hugs
This interpretation is based largely on the composers recorded performance and may not fully coincide with the scores editing (1910) but Valentina has carved a place in the history of great performances.Unsurpassed and among the top 5 greatest performances of this Concerto. If only she had a conductor like Valery Giergev she would have won the Gramophone Award.
torture got a mail from amazone suggesting i buy the concerto.Still no joy UK customers only. Now i will be in london in a few days maybe it works there .Fingers crossed..Happy new year!
The recording with the LSO is great, but absolutely love getting to hear the piano part unaccompanied too. I'd buy solo performance recordings of this if they were available because they are brilliant and refreshing, and because CZcams sometimes buffers, and try to sell me expensive watches.
Since Ashkenazy has made many recordings as a conductor on the Decca label, he would be the perfect conductor here on the Rach 3.Please play this Concerto at the Verbier Festival. They will give you a top flight conductor.Your first movement ossia cadenza is titanic, dwarfing Volodos, Matsuev, Berman and Gavrilov. This 2nd movement is straight from the gut level emotion, totally inspired.I have your Royal Hall DVD and gave it a very positive review on amazon.com. Peace and God bless you.
This is only a general question, but since you're pro I thought I'd better ask you :) What are you doing to prevent a sore neck/back? I never practice more than one hour a day, and I'm only a teenager, and yet I get really sore!!! I'm doing something wrong then, even though I follow my piano teacher's instruction about sitting straight, but not stiff. Great work on the piano! I wish I could do as well as you. Raw talent isn't practice alone! (though a great deal is...)
Just in case Valentina does not get to your comment. There are three major things that can cause back pain while playing: 1) Bad bench. Make sure you have an appropriately cushioning seat. A good one helps a lot. 2) Hereditary/injurious back problems such as scoliosis. Quite a few of my fellow classmates and friends have scoliosis, which I can say that is a pain in the neck...or back :P. 3) Not having enough fun. If you don't like what you are playing...it can actually be physically painful.
For me it's a bit weird to read that, since it took me a long time to actually like this movement. I only realized how deep the Intermezzo is in the second time I went to a live performance of this concerto.
Out of curiosity, where did the Prokovief upload go? Got an email that you uploaded a video but when I went on it it had vanished. Was there a problem?

Love this. The theme that starts at 3:52 is one of the most romantically beautiful passages of music in the world.
agree-- the first time i heard it was from lang lang on a street piano here on youtube, and he made that thing sing. still one of my favorite solo piano performances of any piece!
@@EricLeePiano that rendition is pretty much perfect
2nd movement is absolutely amazing, been one of my favorites for a long time.
"This" is what sustains me living in this often so dreadful world of ours. Without music like this, it isn't worse it.
HA! Exactly my sentiments in my current state of mind.
And to think this beautiful music came from a much troubled mind. Well I think this was after his therapy.
Pretty much the only thing that this shit show of a universe is good for.
I share, strongly. Moments of pure beauty: a reason for living.
... isn't worth it at all.

Lisitsa's playing is allways so pleasurable to listen and to watch! Thank you so much!

This has got to be one of the most beautiful sounds ever extracted from a piano. Just lovely.
What a beautiful movement. I especially enjoyed the last 2 minutes on the upper octave but the whole piece is extraordinary. Valentina you are so brilliant.
Thank you, Valentina. Such a wonderful gift for our souls and hearts, and such a legacy for the future.
Love how the left hand brings out melody around 3:16 as the right plays almost ethereally. Just beautiful.

My favourite movement of the concerto. Played beautifully
This movement is my favorite in the concerto. It stirs my heart.

Absolutely stunning Valentina --
Thanks for making these videos available. Astonished at how effortless you make it seem. Bravo!

and there is something about your technique that is really captivating and can make a piece that i've heard a thousand times refreshingly unique
The best Rachmaninov I have ever heard. It is amazing. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you so much! A very lush, dreamy interpretation. I always wanted a 'close-up' on those magical synchopated chords at 7'20".
Merci pour ce superbe cadeau de Noêl !
One of my favorite pieces done by one of my favorite people
This girl must be the only one who does not need an orchestra. Just sublime.

Until the day I die I will always be able to hear and see this. The beauty of this amongst all the trash on the internet.
Its very fascinating to hear it without orchestra, in some ways it stands by itself.
Your playing is grand.

Thanks for answering :)
I just got the album of iTunes yesterday. I thought the second movement was particularly amazing!
Congratz, this is a great performance ... I wish i could have the means to learn piano full time ... and play like this one day ;)
Siempre esperé que hicieran un solo sin orquesta de este bello tema, me cumplieron el sueño :') ... La música que escucho, es reflejo de lo que soy...
In the mood for love..........
OH MY GODDDDDDDDDD
No problem! :)

Валентина, Вы лучшая!
Планируете ли Вы исполнить сонату №8 соч. 13 ?
Очень хочется услышать Вашу интерпретацию..
2:48 onwards has always touched my heart

Ma quanto bello è anche senza orchestra??????????😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Aaarrrrgghhh still unable to buy it from Amazone. Getting hooked on the solo version ;)
At 0:00-7:48 you can see the true piano genius of Rachmaninoff !
Btw, Valentina you are a piano god !

Peter Capussoto!!! Jajajaja, No la verdad hermosa interpretacion, magistral obra!!
No entendi, que tiene que ver peter capusotto en esto?
Valentina, where are you come from ?
Mine is autographed!

what is the song in the beginning. Its wonderfull
Rachmaninoff on a theme of Paganini
1:08-1:37 💕
Hi I could not order the Mp3 . Response I got was only available to UK customers :((
Hmm...interesting choice of voicing instead of the rising scale which is shared between the two hands..
I really wanted to buy this concerto, but the stores are only for US and UK... I'm very sad about it :(
For me it's a bit weird to read that, since it took me a long time to actually like this movement.

Amazing ! amazing as always :) I wanted to be the first one
what sort of times do you start and end streaming out of curiosity? Last couple of times i've checked, you've been offline
i wonder, do you ever get copyright notices?
Could anybody tell me what the intro song name is?
Joony Kwon Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
I have a Casio and for some reason I can't quite get it to sound like this
Out of curiosity, where did the Prokovief upload go? Got an email that you uploaded a video but when I went on it it had vanished. Was there a problem?
At 6:00 you can see the true piano genius of Rachmaninoff :)
Is there sheet music for this solo version or is she just playing the normal sheet music without the orchestra?
do concert pianists have photographic memories?
0:09
it's not a song.. Its Rachmaninoff - Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini
3:46
