Lyrics:
We took a vow in summertime
Now we find ourselves in late December
I believe that New Year’s Eve
Will be the perfect time
For their great surrender
But they don’t remember
Anger wants a voice
Voices wanna sing
Singers harmonize
Til they can’t hear anything
I thought that I was free
From all that questioning
But every time a problem ends
Another one begins
And the stone walls of Harmony Hall
Bear witness
Anybody with a worried mind
Could never forgive the sight
Of wicked snakes
Inside a place
You thought was dignified
I don’t wanna live like this
But I don’t wanna die
Within the halls of power lies
A nervous heart that beats
Like a Young Pretender’s
Beneath these velvet gloves I hide
The shameful, crooked hands
Of a moneylender
Cuz I still remember
Anger wants a voice
Voices wanna sing
Singers harmonize
Til they can’t hear anything
I thought that I was free
From all that questioning
But every time a problem ends
Another one begins
And the stone walls of Harmony Hall
Bear witness
Anybody with a worried mind
Could never forgive the sight
Of wicked snakes
Inside a place
You thought was dignified
I don’t wanna live like this
But I don’t wanna die

“I don’t wanna live like this, but I don’t wanna die” something about that line hits home
Jake Jones Yeah it does because everybody feels that way at some point in their lives. And people with addiction feel that way 24-7.
anxiety/depression feels
yes, yes it does
Yeah, makes me cry, its kinda saddening, but it's also kinda touching.
I am cronically ill with a genetic condition that didn't show up as a problem until i was 44. It is hard to explain appreciating life so much, because I have things I need and my little house under the mountains in Colorado is peaceful, and i love my doggie and my dude, but its very hard also feeling trapped in a body that cannot dance or move or any number of things, that it used to do.
Those words summarize my life's predicament. I'm glad im alive, more than i ever have been before, and yet, I'm not able to live it in the ways i wish i could.
It's literally our situation now. :/
Now we know why the album took so long, Ezra had to catch all these bugs first.
And make stupid anime shows on Netflix
He had to get rid of the scabies first
I screamed at you comment lmao
@@ilikerice5208 Neo Yokio, unironically, is actually pretty good

Their songs never fail to make it feel like summer, even when it’s the middle of winter
Here in the south hemisphere sure feels like summer now.
dizzy sketch thats weird because they make me feel the opposite way
joseangel125 I was going to say the same thing!!! They sound the way that falling snow looks.
I agree with Jose and Julia. I could be sitting at the beach in middle of the Summer and I would swear the sand was snow.

"I don't wanna live like this, but I don't wanna die" is relatable to what is going on with the World right now.
I love how they have bits from their previous songs. They did it before and they're doing it again. 2019 looks better already.
The 1975 does this as well. I love VW and the 1975!!!
Reminds me of how "Ottoman" referenced the Peter Gabriel line.
@@mjb1124 Thank you for this comment. I was struggling with whom this song reminded me of. Peter freaking Gabriel!!!
@𝓛𝓸𝓼𝓽 𝓲𝓷 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓷 The ooooooos in the background are the tune from the verse of "Run"
I've just realised after several weeks that the line is "the stone walls of HARMONY HALL bear witness" rather than "the stone walls vomited on their witness"
😂 I can't unhear it now
@@maria-melek Same and tbh I dont mind it? I like it better than the actual lyrics lol
I KNOW it's harmony hall, I've read the lyrics, it's the name of the frikking song, but for the life of me, all I hear is "vomited on"
🤣🤣🤣
You've ruined the lyrics for me!🤣🤣🤣🤣all I hear is vomited now! Bless you but arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Vampire Weekend is finally back after 84 years.
The piano in this song actually makes me so happy.
Who knew the first VW song in 6 years would also announce the return of Flik to the big screen in Bug’s Life 2? Best day ever.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
That song gives me goosebumps, makes me smile and emotional at the same time.
I feel like Harmony Hall is gonna be a big part of my life.
Thanks Vampire Weekend for everything.
I agree! Well said.
I feel the same way!
Thumbnail definitely helps to confirm the "Vampire Weekend- Summer, Contra- Fall, MVOTC- Winter, FOTB- Spring" theory
I never thought about but now looking at the different color schemes of the albums wow makes sense
oof yes
Ezra did say this one is "a lil more springtime" but I never thought of the other albums that way, it really fits
I kinda feel Contra is Winter with Horchata and everything then MVOTC is fall with things like "you're tossed aside like a pile of leaves"
Richardson!
"I don't want to live like this, but I don't want to die." - perhaps the most profound lyric I've heard in a long time.

Ended up liking it for how much I can identify with the song's message.
Music and songs like this can be very powerful when the right emotion is touched.

Welcome to the club
I discovered these guys during one of the biggest mental health breakdowns of my life. I'm so happy for their music because it kept me comfort in a time where I needed it.
The production on these tracks are immaculate, and they feel like a progression of their first record with bits of the other 2 sprinkled in. I'm impressed!
No one cares but I was born in 2001 and my parents have been fans of Vampire Weekend since they started music so I grew up with memories of hearing “A-punk” and “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” blasting through the house as my dad did yard work outside and thinking back to when I was younger days that started like that have always been the best. Lol I remember our TV provider had a music videos on demand feature and we would have our parents replay the A-punk video all the time. My teen years have been filled with a weird depression since I was 14 so hearing new music from Vampire Weekend gives me hope for a good year to come. *EDIT: i got to see them in concert in august:) it was incredible. funny story actually, my mom drove my sister and i past the venue earlier in the day only for us to see a guy standing talking on the phone. sister goes “hey that looks like ezra (lead singer) we get closer and BAM! it is him! we drove past all giddy, i videotaped it but got too nervous because i was 4 feet from a guy who’s voice made my childhood and he was giving me the “i know you’re filming me” face. ended up briefly catching his leg in the video for .01 seconds. if he hadn’t been on the phone i would’ve stopped with my mom and sister and told him what his music meant to me, and of course gotten a picture lol. however i thought it would be rude to interrupt a phone call. i was upset about it for a good portion of the day, hell i was THAT close to meeting him, but now i look back and smile. the concert was amazing. i promised myself i’d see them live and years later i did!*
'88 here!!! I'm at the age where I don't feel young, but I sure as hell don't feel old either. And Michellexbeauty? Life gets easier, promise.
‘85 here.. so. Enjoy your life guys! 👌🏻👍🏻

"Harmony Hall" debuted at #2 on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week!
this has such a 90's vibe, especially the chorus. i dig it

FATHER OF THE BRIDE LETS GOOOOO
Really!? 316 people thumbs downed this? I think that this is one of their most refined and great songs! Hands-down! I can't stop listening to this! It's like every music era in one song! The lyrics are well-written and relatable. "I don't want to live like this, but I don't want to die." That resonates with me in so many ways! Great job guys! You're one of my all-time favorite bands!
"It's like every music era in one song!"
Exactly!
No 316 babies hit the thumb-down by accident while playing with their mother's phones

This song feels like summer. The instrumental melody is completely entrancing - gives me such folksy yet '80s pop George Michael vibes. New favorite VW song of the moment.

This. 100.
Good one
This video was so optimistic it was a breath of fresh air
there's one (1) band in this entire whole world
I'm 68 this Summer, and this song rings so true, it elates me, and makes me cry, all at the same time.
When getting married, our first dance was to Step. It's been a long wait... but well worth it... and all the sweeter for it ❤
Oh my god, this fills me with joy. It feels like coming home. The callback to Finger Back made me tear up. And I'm getting serious Peter Gabriel "Shaking the Tree" vibes. My heart is so happy listening to this.

emily rose hallelujah?
Yep!! And a bit of Grateful Dead during the bridge.
And 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' by the Stones, I'd say the whole song has got the same vibe, with the choir and acoustic beginning...
My initial thought was that it sound like it's straight out of Screamadelica by Primal Scream. Which can only ever be a good thing.

I love that their sound is starting to fill out and the arrangements are more lush. The minimalism/stripped down northeast college sound is clever, but they have so much more in their songs and it's nice to hear it evolve. Great tune.
I’ve never been this early for anything before

Superb musicianship especially the piano playing.
I sort of remember ezra talking about how a song should be 3 minutes for the radio, and then he releases 2 songs neither of which are 3 minutes
Matt Miller lmao Ezra doesn’t give a fuck
maybe cos he doesn't want this to be played in radio :)
They did release a 4 minute radio edit. I'm not usually a purist when it comes to that, but the song isn't quite as awesome without those instrumental bridges. That said, I think this is going to be their biggest radio hit, and cement their status as alt-rock heavyweights.
if you average the time from this song and 2021 you get a song about 3:30
Lol
I spent six hours today listening to this song on repeat because the wait is finally over, this song is so beautifully amazing and definitely worth the wait

the soundtrack to my new life
These guys were playing in a big outdoor amphitheater as me and my parents were driving, with VW playing this song. My dad kept driving around the concert because he and us loved the tune.
Can't think of a better way for us three to get exposed to it :)
when the little inchworm inched across sony music I lost it.
Vampire Weekend never disappoints.
Father of the Bride more like Father of the BUGSSSS TOO MANY BUGS
Some songs keep our hearts beating, all songs mean something different to everybody
Is it a coincidence that I listened to this song on my music app while watching a Facebook Video (with the song playing over it) of a man pouring aluminum liquid into an ant's nest and watching as he removes the dirt in a lengthy sequence lasting the whole song? And then coming to this video of the same song having never seen it before, and it also being coincidentally about...arthropods too...?
automatically in love with the new album altough its my first time hearing masterpiece from vw
1,000 dislikes!?!? This is by far my favorite vampire weekend song. Ever since I was little I remember hearing finger back in the car or unbelievers at home. I can’t remember a car trip without obvious bicycle blaring from the speakers. Vampire weekend is by far my favorite band. I still can’t believe 1,000 dislikes
People have different preferences. It is actually quite easy to believe if you think about it logically.
I've loved Vampire Weekend for ages, but I need to thank Ted Lasso for using this tune to its full potential.
