That was fantastic. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ultra video that properly conveyed the amount of food consumed. I loved the casual glee with which you visited each aid station for almost the entire run. It’s as if you were on a leisurely stroll at a food market sampling its wares, and not having just run high-double-figure miles. Made of strong stuff.
Thanks mate! There was a decent amount of eating throughout the day but it did drop off towards the end which I did pay the price for. But it's all a learning curve. I had a super day out there. Thanks for checking out the video mate! 😎🤘

What an absolutely incredible achievement!! Tbh I had no doubt whatsoever that you’d be brilliant at this distance. The training miles and races in the build up were more than spot on. You were so unfortunate with the weather though. Summer races are on the whole, meant to be dry, if not a little too warm but running all that way in such miserable conditions, my hat goes off to you. I’ve never experienced anything remotely close. Loved seeing all the support from everyone out there for you, I could see it kept you running strong!

A beverage of your choice this weekend to note your achievement. Some of those captures you did , even in the filthy weather are outstanding , I know you would have been in the cave , but in a few weeks when everything is healed up, re watch this and I am sure it will bring a smile to your face. It must be the week of the ultramen , Kieran Algers 'run tester' also throwing down 100 miles on the 13th , not to mention Lee's 2nd on his 50.

The race vlog I have been waiting for!!!!! From the epic intro to the sublime filming all the way through to the finish...how you manage to run that far and film to a BBC Documentary quality I will never know. Well done on the Miler, an epic achievement.

Well done Ben. Such a great effort and result. It has been a pleasure to follow you through the training and of course your runs. Super video, I enjoyed it all from the dramatic opening sequence (thought I had put on 'The Ten Commandments' or 'Ben Hur' by mistake), through all that cold wet suffering, joking with the helpers at the aid stations, to the emotional finish. Just brilliant mate, you are a star.

Mate !!! I was in tears watching you cross that line with Zachary. Honestly that was hugely Inspiring and so emotional all in one video. Hugs kudos to you mate 💙. Ben you are just amazing. Such a positive spirit and truly inspirational. I won’t lie watching that journey was a little like playing on my PTSD after my own experience this year but it’s made me more determined to go back again and give it another go next year. You are an absolute treasure , I told you back in February you’d be top 20 and let’s be honest that’s including faffing about with cameras and seemingly never out of breath and never without enthusiasm and smiling .

@@BenNotley its no small thing to come in at the front of a field of such capable runners that size . It’s no small thing for a working person with a busy family and two young kids to be organised enough to go out there and run at level for that distance .
If I may be so bold as to offer a foreword to your biography - having enjoyed watching your training blogs and run with you what is obvious is that you marry perfectly the consciousness in training with a consciousness when running . The fact you are very much a disciplined , patient runner is what makes you a ergonomic and efficient runner and there for always a safe bet to do impressively well at NDW .
I’d happily give a 100 miler a go . In fact I’d love a crack at it but annoyingly I had an illness which messed my eyes up a few years ago and seeing …running in the dark is a right fiasco so I will happily watch you do it instead .

Ben you absolute legend. running in this weather was not the one but you completed it. all the friends and family coming out must have spurs you along. i was not disappointed in your filming work. youre amazing buddy. time for you to relax and start your new adventure. you passed Donnington manor hotel sign. funny my friend is getting married next month and thats where i am staying:) i also love everytime you see your mum its like 'HELLO MOTHER' made me chuckle.

The course runs right alongside the car park just the other side of the fence from the silver Buddha. Amazing video 👏🏻👏🏻 I honestly hand on heart don't know how you do it, I can't even run 1 mile (even with a beautiful view 😉) so god knows how you managed 100miles. The hard work, dedication and training has really paid off. You are the boys super hero Daddy and Zachary is already saying he wants to do the same race as Daddy when he's older. You inspire him everyday, I couldn't ask for a better role model for our boys. Hopefully when Theo's older you can all hit the trails and I can have some peace and quiet 😂 Honestly so so so proud of you, even though I wind you up (a lot 😂) this is a bloody huge achievement and you should be so proud of yourself 🙌🏻 Huge thank you to Adam for pacing you in the last bit (especially in the dark) you made sure he kept going and was able to cross the finish line with our little Zachary, a moment we will never forget! Daddy we love you so bloody much and couldn't be more proud 🥇❤️🥰

Thank you so much moose! You're the hero behind the scenes without all your support and allowing me to go out and train as much as I did I never would have been able to make it through. The buckle belongs to the both of us. We both put in so much work leading up to that day and I love you so much for that. Brilliant achievement Ben, really enjoyed watching this. Certainly went quite fast that opening 50K aha but easy to do, what an amazing event! I grew up in Chilworth, so know many of the routes around the North downs... is a beaut of an area, brought back some fond memories.
I also thought the cinematic intro was really cool with the music, really sets the tone.

@@RichardHodgsonGuildford I still have a few more races in the calendar for 2023 but nothing that long. It's going to be one of the Shere trail races in September next. Ah wow that's pretty cool mate! I bet it was a lot different back then.
Loved the video and performance on the day, the training was solid..... I've almost come to expect nothing less from you now :D You're a great person and runner.
Weather looked challenging, but I think I'd almost prefer it to be like that over +30c, still requires management in your conditions, but less likely to go south with dehydration..... although as we discussed and saw in the video, if you go slower in that weather it can get cold and not so fun.

Brilliant vid. I did the last 25 miles as a pacer for my mate who Came 7th Dean Harrison. It was the furthest Iv ever ran so appreciate just how hard it is to do the miles you all did. Loved the experience.

Great video and well done on a brilliant run, you made it look easy! I've done a 68 mile race along the North Downs Way (Guildford to Bluebell Hill) and my legs got destroyed very quickly with all the steps and sharp hills. Would like to try the 100 someday.

The rain was relentless and its left me with some serious chaffage 🤣 it got super cold in the night it's crazy to think it's August and you can see your breath 🤣 The McDonald's was a nice touch for sure but they will be removing that next year when the course goes back to normal. Top work Ben very impressive. I see that you came 20th overall which I think everybody should know about as that is class running in a very high profile ultra. I found 100 miles on a bike a challenge enough few years back so can only imagine how the legs feel going this far. I was wrecked after "just" 35 miles/55K with your co runner Stephen Cousins when I tried to go long couple of years ago. I never quite know how you manage to navigate in the dark. Do you have the course on your watch or you know it already well enough or is it just well sign posted or bit of all? Challenging day weather wise I imagine or do you think a bit of mud heels was a good compromise in lieu of a baking hot day like I see the SDW 100 was? Shame no appearance from the bucket hat though! I did fear your goal pace was a bit bold when you seem to set off at 8 min miles from Farnham but you held it together well. At least you were wise enough not to drop in some 6 min miling. BQ training maybe next year? At least I would be familiar with the last lap on a running track. Must be tricky if you are honest about logging miles of your shoes on Strava if you change them up halfway but imagine you were glad to get into some dry ones for a bit. Hope you are recovering well and hope to bump into you on the trails as we often do! Of course now I have the Ultrafly (and decided only honest of me to not send back them for a refund) I have some shoes to look the part with you - well now they are more grey than white that is.
Thank you very much Mr Grose! It was a absolutely insane day. Such a physical and emotional rollercoaster. I spotted Stephen and Victoria at registration but I was too nervous to say hi. I had the course on my watch but it was also extremely well marked so you could probably run it without using the GPX. The weather was shocking for the beginning of August but it's been fine since that day 🤣 Plenty of mud on the heels and all up my legs too 🤣 Thanks for watching Mate and hopefully we can meet up for a run soon! 😎🤘

@@BenNotley I worked with a guy from Camberley area. He told me it rains most bank holidays. I want to do a ultra there someday. Montane Spine winter is the crazy one on my list some day. I need some artic ultra experience in North USA before trying it. It looks pretty epic
