- Finally, we can assemble our 3.0L SDV6 Diesel Engine of our Land Rover Discovery 4, which had a snapped crankshaft after only 64000 km. In previous episodes we showed how we bought the car, removed the engine and fixed the lower end.

You work so well together, the attention to detail needed for an engine rebuild is so much easier with someone supporting you, rather than just helping. You make it look so easy, which it is not. A real credit to both of you, cannot wait to see the next episode.
Hats off to you for torquing every single fastener. I certainly don't have the patience for that.
I suppose you both realise that your channel is required viewing by all Landrover mechanics and technicians in order to pass their training course! Christian your engine rebuilds are better than what comes out of the Landrover factory brand new!
Well after cutting the video maybe 😬 Christian
If only this were true 😂
I thought this was a ford engine ?
@@1960livvy I seem to remember that this 'Lion' engine was a joint effort between Ford, JLR AJD-V6 and Peugeot named DT17. The 2.7 first version was fitted to various Jag, LR, RR, Peugeot 607 and possibly other vehicles. Ford owned JLR at the time. Wiki says it was part of Ford Duratorq family.
I also remember that BMW and Peugeot/Citroen did a joint diesel 1.6litre.
Later Ford made another 'lion' engine based in a truck block and was the SDV8 4.4 litre diesel which had no common parts.
I don’t believe a joint effort at all
I used to be relaxed driving my D4, but after watching your channel, I now drive in fear of catastrophic crank failure. Perhaps ignorance is bliss for someone who struggles to open the bonnet ;o)
They certainly don't all break cranks, though many have. There's a couple of D4's owners where I live, both get well used daily and have plenty of trouble free klms on them. Don't sweat, enjoy.
At least you know how to fix it if it does 😂
You can relax - only 1 out of 100 LR4 cranks snap. If you win 10 million in the lottery, then you should start to worry. Christian
😂😂😂
(Assembling engine) "Ready for the next engine failure". Christian's humour is priceless.
I don't think I could ever get tired of watching you reassemble the TDV6 engine. I learn something new every time. Your knowledge and collection of tools is incredible. Thanks for another very educational video.
Why am I so interested in this channel, I haven’t even got a LR and don’t even intend getting one after seeing all the issues😂 great work, you make a great team even dragging your son in for a helping hand!
I have been a mechanic for 40 years and you don’t get better than Christian, he would make a great mechanic trainer.
Loving this series, even as a mechanic myself. Not even sure why, maybe to see someone else suffer through things like this 😂
I am so happy you take the time to clean things before re-mounting them, I see too many CZcams mechanic videos where they mount dirty parts again. I always wonder what the probability is that some pieces of dirt will cause harm.
I summarize all my words and say that I wish I were your neighbor ..Thank you for all your wonderful content
Christian / Vera ,
I spent my last work trip away out of UK watching the channel and was amazed at the content …. Within a week of being home in UK , i stopped dithering and bought a Discovery 4….!
Had a Range Rover sport years ago but sold it , realised what i really had needed and should have bought was a Discovery 4…..
Mine is Fuji White / black trim but loving it …. Will service it myself now , great to have something i can play with the dirty bits … within reason of course … thanks for pushing me over that edge!!
I’m glad Vera is there to keep an eye on things Christian, if it’s only for OMG interjections 😂, great video guys love these and the humour is so subtle marvellous content.
Lovely work Christian and Vera, can't wait to see and hear it run again.
It's always good to watch the two of you working together. Your attention to detail is second to none .well done I think that engine will run like a sewing machine better then new
I don't know what your plans are with the car after repairs, but if you sell it , the buyer has a car with probably the best build engine ever , i think even in the factory is not so much attention to each detail...Nice to follow your channel , educational and funny in one deal ...keep up the good work ! Greetings from Belgium
I used to hate Sundays as they marked the end of the weekend, but now I have something to look forward to. Thank you for your entertaining and informative videos. Your work is superb.
Cristian certainly knows his stuff , fantastic!
Great! - looking forward to next week now and the final install. 👍
Another absolutely brilliant video Christian & Vera. Fantastic progress with the rebuild and hilarious installments of German humour and comedy 👏
“I’m ageing…” - Christian 🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant video again and these aren't simple engines with all the components and the amount of special tools needed to install and check parts at every stage of the rebuild. The fun and jokes yous have between yourselves is lovely to see, a great couple together. I can see why these are expensive to work on and engineering an engine without a simple dipstick is a move that is asking for problems after a few years.
Good job Christian and Vera, your attention to detail is inspiring. Makes me want to drop my VW and go to LR! Great video guys!
Stumbled across your channel today & have binged watched all the episodes on this Discovery, enjoyed every second, greetings from London!
Here we can what German makes it great in history. This pure knowledge in person. Thx Christian
OMG ! I have been pronouncing my Stahlwille tools as ‘Star-Willy’ 🙈……. The more I see the Ford V6 diesel, the more I think how great (reliable) would the car have been with a Mercedes V6 or BMW I6 diesel, so many Brit part suppliers, Chinese tool makers Etc would be out of work, and C&V would have only the gardening to do 🤔 😂
Superb Workmanship, Well and Workwomanship 👊
Thank you again for giving me half an hour of enjoyable entertainment on a Sunday
Awesome work again on the mechanical side as well as the camera/video production. Wishing my life away as I wait for next Sunday.
The amount of engendering behind a modern engine like this is mind-blowing.😯
For some reason I now want to build a "hot rod" with this engine but without forced induction...😳
absolutely crazy how much stuff is on such an engine. Christian
The mark of a great artist - and let's agree what Christian and Vera are doing is artistry - is to make it look easy and simple to the likes of a Luddite like me. The thought actually crossed my mind for just an instant that I could maybe do it!
About the only thing I could actually do is utter Vera's immortal "OMG!" Keep on keeping on!
The suspense! Will it start?
Ofcourse it will! - Christian and Vera put it together..better than any Monday engine assembly and probably better than a Wednesday engine assembly.
One small step for man, big step/evidence for Toyota! I love your videos ! And I will never ever buy an LR. Thank's !
Christian and Vera as usual fantastic blog and video ❤👊🇬🇧
Amazing Guys.. well done to you both... from the UK.
Love this series with the new Discovery! Super satisfying to see the engine come back together with such care and attention. I'm looking for an engine rebuild project myself right now :)
Superb. A cliff hanger ending❤
Fantastic video! Love your humor, cracks me up. Hopefully Steven didn’t have any other bad days on the assembly line.
I love these videos, but it makes me in even more awe of the RAF guys and factory techicnians who serviced and repaired the Napier Sabre 24 cylinder engine 😮
German engineering at its humorous best! 🦘🙏🦘
You guys set the bar high, well done.
The only couple that can strip and rebuild an engine and come out as clean as when they started 😂..brilliant x
The Stahwille Stabil 20 and Motor 10 are some of my favourite spanners (wrenches in the USA)
Ha sido un gran y meticuloso trabajo. He restaurado muchos motores como N47, N57, OM642, otros del grupo PSA. Todos los motores tienen cosas buenas y malas, pero lo importante es siempre disfrutar.
Christian&Vera,Fantastic job you done
Cant whait til next week!
Hvl.
I had to laugh when you mentioned "Sarah-n-Tuned". She's one of my favourites to watch. Small world. You two are funny and very entertaining even if I don't own a LR.
Congratulations on passing 40,000 subscribers! Watching your attention to detail in terms of torque settings and tolerances (and how bad the tolerances on some aftermarket parts), it is no wonder so many people have trouble with their engines after they rebuild them. So many things can be done incorrectly and it probably creates a cascade of failures down the road.
Thanks Allen. Hope life is good in LA. Christian
Awesome work. Huge respect.
Fantastic job well done great to watch on Sunday morning with a coffee 👏👍
I am so glad I found this channel. I look forward to Sundays knowing that I will be laughing with you guys! I really do enjoy the content, and find it both interesting and informative. I don’t even have a Land Rover ( or any other 4x4).😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
That is so great😀💪🙋♀️Vera
Thanks for another great video looking forward to next Sunday 👍 Mike
Good morning Vera and Christian. Really enjoying the videos on the Discovery 4 and looking forward to next weekend's clickety clicks. 👍
Great job but I did a sharp intake of breath when you put that dirty piece of plastic on so was relieved when you took it off and cleaned it.😂
Glad I did. You and I would have lost sleep. Christian
I don’t own a JLR group Motor, I own a fancy Toyota, but I still love this channel and the Toyota jokes 😂
Congratulations for the commitment you guys show proof. You deserve all the credit for the work you have done. Regards Dorin.
Cut the video right at the critical point where it was turning over. Absolute torture! Brilliant video again guys as always well done.
Today, I had a nice bowl of banana custard whilst enjoying your latest instalment.
That engine will probably be the most carefully built and “in specification” unit to be fitted in a Land Rover.
I am totally impressed by your work both of you are magnificent together man i wish i could find a coworker that makes such tedious work so much fun Thank you for your videos!
Thanks
Well done you two...I'm stressad just sitting here watching your progress...and now I have to another week with my fingers crossed🫰😬
I'm late for my go to premier Sunday show, OMG! Not sure if Christian could put that Furd-Rover-Shyna engine together without the clickety click tool and Vera's torque spec supervision and bag 'n tag procedure. Maybe blacksmith Rubin could forge a Furd-Rover-Shyna crankshaft that would make it past 40k miles. He could become a millionaire. Indeed, Stahlwilli, Kneipex and Gedore are excellent tools that last a career and hopefully are still Made in Germany. Looks like some of the torque specs on that engine are exceeding the torque capabilities of the crank. OMG, did I just say that! But, will it run and last more than 40K miles? Well produced video, hilarious, entertaining and educational all at the same time!!!!
Precision amazing attention to detail.
Behind every good man there is a good woman with a camera and a wagging finger to supervise
Fingers crossed next week we hear it start and run and prove the bath tub formula works
I wished I had your skills and knowledge. Well done both of you, yet again.
Absolutely envious of your skill, thank you for sharing.
Would love to see you rebuild a Toyota 1HD FTE motor😊
Wow I LOVE thunderstorms so much! Do you get many? A big bonus to the video! This was great to watch Christian reassembling the engine! Very satisfying indeed. You are both brilliant fun
Brilliant once again, Christian and Vera, also a guest appearance from Robin. I am learning so much and the click click has been a revelation. LR time much better than Eurovision!
Hi Christian and Vera. I am not a Land Rover owner Merc C220 2006, same as Christian's and 08 Merc Vito( plenty of work to do😅). I was hooked on your channel after stumbling upon your body removal video a few weeks back. I am working my way through all of your previous clips.I love your quotes, chemistry together and technical brilliance. Keep them coming.👏👌
we need the next part of the video, love you guys as a couple.... real power couple you are and love how much knowledge you guys have
It is a really great feeling to bolt bits on rather than off. Looking forward to seeing next week and the body going back on👍😁my chassis painting is almost complete so I'll be installing my engine and all new suspension soon. Probably be about a month behind you 😂although snow is forecast for us in Scotland again so maybe a little longer😮
I am sure you will get it perfect 👍 Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian well as perfect as I can get it anyway 🤣👍
Lol Vera you will give this man grey hair…great video, love the attention to detail and doing things correctly.
ITS LR TIME😊😊😊 What a great build.only getting to view the latest video.i had to change the rear hatch actuator.i cant wait to hear the engine start.will this mall crawler be for vera?? Keep up the good work😊😊
Another good engineering lesson for us lesser mortals Thank you guys
Wow, when I started watching 9 months ago you were at around 24K subscribers I think. You are getting towards double that now, good job!
Love watching you guys play 👍
The video diary of 'my' engine being built is therapy for me.
Good morning Vera & Christian 😊Another outstanding video on the LR engine 😊 No Dumb ass this week lol 😆 What at tease at the end seeing her crank over 😮 I have to say Christian your technical knowledge is outstanding but sorry Vera is the star 🌟 of the show keeping you in check 🤣 Love every single minute of your videos 👍🏻 Take care & see ya both next Sonntag 😊 for Vera ❤x
Wow! Another excellent video from you both. I can't wait for the next one. See you next Sunday.
I so so look forward to seeing your latest videos,, it is a must not miss video at the end of every week, I have said it before but your attention to detail is fantastic and your team work is so amazing and heartwarming to see, especially in today’s mad world. Stay safe and see you next week ❤
Lying in bed in rainy blighty with a cuppa and this on the telly 👌🤙
Thanks guys - another great video!
Well done - looking forward to the next video
Great workmanship guys Christian works a lot better with his 1/4 inch extension you got him for xmas 😂😂😂
fantastic work you've done! love your videos so much.
Rocket science. The mad professor working on the spaceship engine, Lol.😁
Just superb. I love your work so much. Thank you Vera and Christian. Best wishes.
Did you find out why you had an extra bolt? I'm looking forward to the start up until then have a great week everyone 😁
Yes, found it. We got no bolts left over but two plastic plugs which dropped down when we lifted the body of.
I don’t now how ye have the stomach for it 😱 Great job!
🤞 she starts next week 🤞
Totally gripped by the videos. As a Disco 4 owner would love to have the facilities to carry out such a rebuild. Just need the space and the videos you and Vera produce. Would need Vera to supervise the rebuild to ensure the correct clicker te clicks are applied. 😂😂😂😂
Amazing content as usual, it's almost a step by step guide 😊 something for the patreons maybe. ❤
Awesome work guys!! Cannot wait to see this installed and running!! :-)
Watching this series on your amazing skill in completely rebuilding this engine, I kept thinking about the much lower complexity of an electric motor... just a single rotor with two bearings (and no transmission). No need for the hundreds of precision parts in the ICE engine.
Vera, I hope you showing the engine not starting is not ‘clickety clickbate’ X😁
Guess that no car mechanic is that meticulous. The result: This engine can not fail. Under nu circumstances! It will run forever! Never break! Ever............
Now I will go back and work on my uncomplicated British engine from the sixties. What a relief!
I imagine that this engine is now better than factory, being fully hand-built with considerable care and attention.
Hello teacher, don't be tired
All most done with your Engine guys ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
I admire your attention to detail, fantastic work on a terrible product. I've been a Toyota man all my life
Ooooohh.... I'm so excited to see this installed and fired!!! 😁
I just caught the “cleaning like Sarah-n-tuned” comment, did make me laugh!
Great work on the rebuild.
