great training hike, that is definitely more than a creek... more like a river. And great old cotton mill too. Good amount of weight to train up with. Training for the CI trip. Good point about moving to the side...I see so many people not doing that on busy trails. I collected 5 poop bags yesterday at Fort Harrison... shame shame. Can't wait to see you guys for the CI trip. I might be heading out to the Grand Canyon next week on a solo to Indian Garden... it's been 7 years since I went to the bottom.
That is awesome! Very cool to have that experience and to be able to return solo is cool! This spot and several areas in Atlanta have some really cool terrain to check out. Lots of history in this area.
Can’t believe you’re even making Mrs.Metro even carry her stuff on the upcoming Cumberland Island hike. You should carry your stuff, her stuff, and her ! Now that would be a epic video to watch.. haha. Good vid bro, J⚡️H
Yup. Tried to carry all the gear before but not with her on my shoulders. That would be a great video! Hoping that Mrs Metro will be appearing in more videos because no one wants to see this mug yapping all the time.
Beautiful river bank, it's definitely a good idea to think about revisiting this place in summer, when everything is green and the sky is blue. But even now, the rapids seemed astonishing 👌
Nice work getting some training in! Sounds like you have a fun trip planned! I love hiking next to a river or a creek! Makes any hike better having that beauty for the eyes and the ears!
It’s going to be awesome! Island, Wild horses, hiking, and the beach! 30 miles for the entire trip to cover the island. The rapids are always a great addition to these hikes!
Hello my friend! As you know, you have to stay in motion if you want to keep your trail legs. FYI...will be hiking with Wondering Monk on Cumberland Island soon.
Cumberland Island is a great place to hike. I took my son when he was working on his Hiking Merit Badge for his 20 mile. Of course we did more than that over the weekend, but he had to get the 20 in one day. Racoon Keys is a great spot for looking for sharks teeth just south of Dungeness when the tide is out. Gotta time it just right though. Bring rain gear. Seems to always rain. Coldest showers you will ever take are at Sea Camp. Have a great time. My family is headed there in June. I can't wait. No matter how many times I have been, it is always a great trip.
20 miles in one day is no joke! Thanks for the tip on Racoon Key as my wife and I love searching for shark's teeth! I think the best time to look for shark's teeth is an hour before and after high tide. We are bringing rain gear and thanks for the heads up on the cold showers at Sea Camp. Hope you have fun in June and thanks for the support of this channel!
Can you Kayak that creek? Looks like it would be fun. Your going to Cumberland Island!! Awesome!! I really dig the hiking trail along the water. Beautiful scenery brother. Really cool your wife went with you. 👍🏻👍🏻
Good question. Never seen any kayakers there but there is a huge lake near here so maybe? Yep. Going with the crew to CI with the wifey. Should be an adventure for sure! Can’t wait to see all the different videos people will make. Lucky to have several areas like this near my house as the Chattahoochee is a protected area with lots of undeveloped land in the city.
Well done! Ms. Metro for the win with the 25 lb. packs!!! Ms. Metro (Stephanie) should definitely be a part of future videos! She did awesome. Actually, a nice park. Cool stream by the trail. Crow✌️
Thank you my friend! Steph is super excited about the backpacking trip on Cumberland island and other upcoming trips. She did great with pack being loaded down. Lots of great spots to explore in Georgia. Very Blessed! Thanks for the support my friend!
Yay!! It's always nice to get the wife out too! I have issues getting mine out there but it's nice when she does! Love that creek!! Bet that's popular in the summer! Pretty sure i watched An Adventure with Nick and Rachel at this spot. Haha i dislike filming with so many people around! 😜 Great hike!!
She has been hiking with me for years, but backpacking is another thing. Since I can't carry for the both of us, she took the lead and is getting used to carrying the extra weight on trail. She will hopefully start appearing more on camera too! this place is super popular which makes it the worst state park to train. However, there are some cool trails and places to explore. Thanks for the support!
Seemed like you were beside the water pretty much all day, which is always nice! Thought the shots of the cotton mill ruins were pretty cool and appreciated that you turned a couple of negative experiences on the trail into friendly etiquette reminders 👍
A lot of people don’t understand Leave No Trace and it helps to just share positive info this way. Nice to have these places close to home but living in the city, you are surrounded by people so this is bound to happen. Was on the AT last weekend and only saw a handful of people.
This is my home park, if you get there at open, you'll have the whole park to yourself until about 9 when the trail running crew comes in. I love this place, there are tons of side trails that lead to amazing spots on the river. Wildlife is amazing up here too if you catch it at the right time, there are a ton of various reptiles. Really do just have to avoid the people, and the park is fantastic. Also, you mention that you aren't sure where the water comes from, this is actually a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. The mill is a paper mill also, not a cotton mill.
Definitely not flat ground like Cumberland! The AT last week was way more fun with a lot less people. Good times as you know to share these experiences with a partner!
Next time you're hitting somewhere in North GA, I'd LOVE to hit a trail or 2 with you. Or even some cold weather camping. Been really digging the Crockford-Pidgeon WMA and Cloudland Canyon lately.
@@MetroOnTheMove Definitely one of my favorite parks in GA right now... Except for the stairs leading down to Sutton's Gulch trail... Those are brutal on the way back up after hiking to the end and back lol. If my ankle's feeling better by next week I'll probably go check out the Bear Creek Backcountry trail there. Seen some photos from it and they look awesome. I wanna do that 50 miler there that's on alltrails once it warms up a little too.
Thanks for the heads up! I've seen the signs but never seen one there. Will keep an eye out if/when we return. Have a great day and thanks for the support!
@@MetroOnTheMove yes sir! I went there during the day last year. I walked the south beach of the island. I wish I brought a tent and maybe some butane stove and try camping the north side.
This park is pretty near where I live (i'm in smyrna). I haven't been in a while though. I get bored of going to the same places over and over again. But I might hit this one up this Weekend.
Completely understand. I look at it as exercise and would much rather be on trail than running in the streets of Atlanta. We go to the Chattahoochee areas all the time and it does get boring if you go too much.
@@MetroOnTheMove I lived in Smyrna till last year too, and enjoyed the Palisades Trails immensely, you gotta do a little bit of trial and error but you can definitely get away from the pavement and have a good day outside. Never thought I’d see deer running around Atlanta city limits during the day. We camped at Sweetwater Creek last summer and had a good time, but wasn’t the outdoor highlight of my year in Atlanta lol
@@landeny65 the East palisades is prob my favorite area in Atlanta! Because there has not been any development in 50 years, these areas feel like you are in the woods and can see deer everywhere! Love this!
Super excited to see your Wife joining on the trail! How were the legs after her first maiden voyage with a full pack? And did she decide to do a pack purge to free up some of the weight?
She has been on a number of hikes with me but not on camera. She did fine with the pack and has been doing 5-7 milers in some local spots. She put the weight in there first so she knows the limit. Then we will pack based on her comfort level.
Awesome training route! I wonder what it would be like for Justin Outdoors, Metro and Off-Grid to go on a trip with their partners who are all named Steph? 🤣
Pretty funny! We have a bunch of trails in protected areas near our home that have some good climbs to get in shape. Can’t wait to camp on Cumberland Island!
Good question! After this hike on Cumberland, she will be ready for longer backpacking hikes. Would be great to get a hike with everyone. Let’s connect to discuss.
Love the time spent by the water. Flow of the river is awesome.
It was an awesome day out there! Good times!
definitely adding this to our wish list, awesome 'creek' and love seeing old structures. take care and see ya next time
It is really a wonderful virtual walk accompanying you to see amazing scenes of nature😊🇨🇦🌹🌹
Nice cascades and falls to hike along. Nice to virtually meet your wife. CI 2022 is fast approaching. Whoot Whoot! CI 2022 Tramily for LIFE! ~RVA~
We are super excited to see everyone and to experience this epic island trip! See ya soon!
Hey! Awesome to meet Stephanie! Great trail hike & good information. Haha. Yes. More off the trail for your 🤳 selfie.
LOVE cumberland island!!!!!
The selfie group was in full effect! Steph is really excited to hike the trail on Cumberland Island! Can’t wait to see all the videos from this hike!
Hi, Stephanie! 🙋♀️ I'm excited to meet you both on CI! This really is some beautiful scenery. I love the cotton mill ruins.
We are excited to meet you on CI as well! Blessed to have so many options to hike in North Georgia! See ya soon!
Awesome vidz my friend and interesting hiking adventures out there.
Can't beat it! Love having these hiking trails so close to home.
Thanks for the helpful trail educate… im willing to learn from those patient enough to teach
Hello, Mrs. Metro! 👋
That's a nice river walk, I mean, a creek walk. There must be some nice campsites as well.
There are a few campsites here but have never camped. Might have to do that in 2022!

My thoughts too about this being a "creek". My grandparents used to live a mile from there and they too called it Sweetwater "creek"

Funny how most parks near Atl look mostly the same in the winter lol

Dam Metro, I thought you’d be parking in the VIP section? LOL
Working on that VIP. For now, its the long road to the park.
Better looking company than you normally keep! Watch out for the buggers on Cumberland Isle!
I’m hearing more and more about these buggers
Keep an eye out for timber rattlers in warm months, the park has a very high population of them.

Why is Stephenie carrying a old school framed pack?
She is working up to a frameless! She like the support of this pack for now.
Looks like a possible double date in the future?! Did Steph love it?
She was a trooper with the 25 lb pack! She is training for the upcoming cumberland island backpacking trip. Definitely up for a double date!
I took my gal hiking last summer. She got bit up by horse flys. Her legs looked like she had leprosy and she has refused to go with me again lol.
Yikes! That must have been an experience!
She brings it up everytime I ask if she wants to go with me again lol.
