Dude u r by far the best mechanic on here. The way u explain things r dead on. Ur not too fast or too slow. No wasted time or annoying intro. Nice and calm. Thank u . I had no idea about using meter and testing with dc for tps sensor. And ur paperclip to allegator clip truck is so neat I use it on everything with tight spots. Thank u so much. I already watched this once when replacing the TPS on my 95 Nissan maxima the first time. But I'm replacing it again. I thought the transmission was going out, it was slipping so bad. Some one told me to test the TPS because the idle was surging up and it was bad, replaced it and no more transmission problems. Thanks again as always for the videos!!
@CarsNToys Sir, I just watched your videos 6 years after you’ve posted it, do I still a chance to respond to my 2015 Nissan Xterra throttle body I don’t know how to test it
THANKS! I have been searching for months to fix my high idle on my Pathfinder. I finally found your video. Not even the Factory service manual explains this procedure.
Awesome video; I just changed the TPS in my 2003 Infiniti QX4 and notice I did it wrong by placing the TPS metal tab in the opposite side of the throttle. Thanks for this video.
Thank you so much for your video. I have an Infiniti QX4 and I was replace the TPS on it but I can’t get it to start so I do believe it is the spark plug number two boot so I have to take off. I appreciate you. thank you for the video.
Thanks, It did help me a lot. I removed mine, and when a placed it back it gave me problems, but now I know why, I never imagine I had to adjust the throttle.
Thank you. I have a Nissan Xterra 2006 - the check engine reader at O'Reilly's said we need a Throttle body positioning sensor. Grateful to find your video.
Hey buddy I just wanted to say I really appreciate the time you took to show these methods and skills. I've been stuck for a minute with this tps sensor. What model car are you working on here?
Note before you remove old TPS, take a sharp object and mark plastic part of sensor and housing it sets in-use these marks when replacing new TPS---just like timing marks used on older cars.....
This was the most helpful video and in under ten minutes. Wish I would of found this one sooner. I hope the tps sensor is my problem for my low idle. This will be my third attempt. I've cleaned throttle body and iac valve so for my poor idle the culprit must be the tps. Thanks
Thank you. This was really helpful. I have an 88 Buick Lesabre and how to position it was what I needed find out. You were straight to the point and fast to explain it and I know that is what most people love about you. Again thank you.
Thanks. Watched a lot of these videos and yours has been so helpful Have an 02 Nissan Xterra supercharged 3.3 4wd. Any videos on idle air control, ignition switch, how to track down a short and cat converters. Or how to bypass supercharger all together. Thanks again and GODSPEED
Very well done and clearly expained. None of that rambling that lots of guys do. Now I will know how to fix my granddaughters ips if it needs it. Thanks for the vid.
Thank for the video pal. I’ve been struggling with my 1990 Nissan Maxima Automatic. After replacing a bad ECU, my idle goes up and down when warm. I’m about to try the technique in this video. Thanks again.
very, very educative and on point. My 2001 Infiniti I30 idles up and down when heated up. this been going on for a while. I've changed MAFS, Throttle body more than once. However, they're used but the problem continues. sometimes it stalls, you push the gas, the car don't move and you can see the meter go up but not moving. I'm fixing to change the position sensor like you did. but it's had to get around it for lack of space. Can you help. thanks.
Dude.. Thank you so much.. My 92 sidekick needs the tps adjusted and I didn't know I could do it with it running.. I've called 3 mechanics and they said they didn't know.. Going to go give it a try now... Subscribed 👍
Yes, I did. I cleaned the TPS,wires connectors, that plug into the TPS,somehow , the symptom went away. The prongs were so dirty and rusty. Try that on yours
As you rotated the TPS past the sweet spot you described, you can hear a type of buzzing in the background. Then as you rotated back towards the sweet spot, it went away. What is that buzzing sound ?
Nice vid. I just wanted the voltage specs to test my current one and to set the new one if it needs replacing. Lost my nissan FSM bundle for a wide array of cars to mold
Car won't accelerate, lacks power when accelerating, or accelerates itself. ... Engine won't idle smoothly, idles too slowly, or stalls. ... Car accelerates, but won't exceed a relatively low speed, or shift up.
Good informativ video. Gonna change mine tomorrow and wanted to know if i have something to watch out for. So now i know i should maybe do this with my small brother who reads the rpm of the motor and me tighting it down while figuring out what way (higher or lower) to go. Thanks for that buddy!
great vid. I do have a question. We have a 2003 Nissan Frontier where we replaced the TPS, but now it wants shift funny between first and second. Revs up before shipping from 1 to 2. Like 3000 rpm then shifts. I read a lot where it says the TPS needs to relearn the transmission, but every relearning pattern I've tried doesn't work. It still shifts funning from 1 to 2. Then I got a code for TPS low voltage. Does this mean that it's just not adjusted right? anyways I'll take any help you can offer. 2003 frontier 3.3 auto trans. thanks again
1999 Frontier, auto trans, 3.3. Changed the distributor, changed fuel pump and in-tank filter. Changed in line fuel filter. Changed knock sensor, crank shaft positioning sensor. New fuel and ignition electrical relays. New battery. Truck start starts and idles like it was new. After 30 to 60 seconds of idling, the truck shuts off. It'll start right up again but shuts down after less idling time each time I restart the truck. Handheld cheapy $60 Scan tool shows no fault codes.
Im having trouble with my throttle i believe its the tps bc my idle is horrible. This helps i dont know if it would be this tho bc it does almost die on me while driving it. Like sputters. I love my nissan tho thanks for sharing
Thank you very much... that was short and sweet.... crisp and clear... and to the point... was very informative and most useful... Thank you so much.... appreciate all your help. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for the video. My car (Nissan Altima 2013) works fine in reverse, but does not get past 2 rpm on drive mode. What do I possibly do to fix the problem?
Is it basically the same throttle position sensor on a 99 Mercury villager with the 3.3 l The only reason I am concerned because the code of throttle position sensor pops up thank you for your video very good
One great way to not risk breaking the screws is to remove the throttle body from the car cuz then u can hold it however u need that's what I did for my grand prix
First, I want to let you know that your Videos are very clear easy to follow. Now I changed the TPS in my 2003 Infiniti QX4 before seeing your video and mistakenly placed the TAB on the opposite side of the throttle pin. During testing, the engine was revving up and down and then stop working. Found out ECU was fried. Purchased one on eBay and after installing the ECU and the IACV engine did not start. Pull out codes P1610 and P1611 which I guess would be normal. Had my original ECU repaired and reinstalled but the engine won't start. At this point, I need to find one last option to get the engine up and running or tow the car to a mechanic for repairs. Greatly would appreciate any input.

I opened my throttle body and cleaned it, also cleaned the position sensor now my car having issue when I start moving the rpm goes suddenly up and down in low gears below 60 kilometers per hour. And has some rough shifting. I adjusted the sensor as you explained and reset the sensor without a scan tool as you explained in the video my RPM is around 800 and the car runs with no issue above 60km. Does the key flick memory reset work on an 06 frontier? I'm going to replace mine, to see if if fixes the random turning off of the truck, and going to replace the cam position sensor as well.
