  • Widowmaker rapid on the middle section of the owyhee river in oregon at approx 4200 cfs. This is only the final drop of this rapid.
Key take away if you plan to do this trip in a bigger boat AKA raft or cataraft, more flow is better. Lining a boat would be incredibly hard and I would not recommend it. 4200 cfs I felt was a really easy flow, the line is tight but not unmanageable.
You might ask why you start all the way on the right side and move left? The answer is actually really simple after seeing the rapid from the scout. The key to making this move is left to right momentum. If you enter on the right side of the rapid you have a chance of falling into a really nasty hole on the right side. When you enter on the left, you have to make a tricky move to keep yourself on the boil line, but you have a really clean shot at your line and your momentum is moving in the correct direction. Hope this Helps!

The middle is a cool run. No one talks about halfmile rapid on this run, but it’s a super cool and a pretty hard rapid. Also the ledge is a very interesting rapid. The canyon walls are impressive the whole way down, and a good amount of camp options.

Which cat tubes are you running? Length?

Sotar legend 12’6. I deleted the inner baffles so they are single chamber tubes. I really love the set up. Overall the boat is incredibly light, but very capable.
