Sound proofing panels on the ceiling and [soon] fiber glass doors? This is turning into one of the nicest coral facilities out there. 🤯 Really enjoyed the tour
First time I've heard someone putting soundproofing into a coral farm, congratulation! About that green screen, it .. doesn't matter.. that much for the color? There's way too much variable that comes into play. Have you thought about lighting the screen? And adding diffusers on your light with some cover panel. That generator... holysmoke.
I love watching these videos. I learn a lot and get to see what it’s like to run an operation like TG. Hindsight is 20/20, but Than takes it in stride. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Awesome update! The gal and me both appreciate your level of OCD about things. Our tank is finally cycling so hopefully in a few months we'll be ready to order some corals from you guys!
This building from now on should be referred to as the mother ship. I do not think there is another building dedicated to corals like this. Yes there maybe bigger facilities but nothing this well thought out and over the top. Love the updates.
Have you looked into bashsea skimmers? They can custom build to any size and with their own twisted skimmer design allows you to use any pump on them including DC pumps. Plus US made
Thanks for the update Than, this has been an awesome ride. Surprised you aren’t grey after all that. That would of taken some years off of my life for sure. Your kingdom is grand sir!
Than I love your obsession for absolute perfection! Good enough is never an option. I’m sure it’s costing you a small fortune but your facilities are out of this world! I would genuinely pay money for a tour in person. 😍
Hey Than! Let me open with saying that I assume you've already done a lot of research on this, and probably know most of this already. But just in case its of any help, I thought I'd throw out some green screen info. On color. Your screen looks like its "Digital Green", although its obviously hard to tell in video. Digi green is great in that it offers a lot of color contrast, but since its such a bright color it makes shadows a bit more apparent. It also tends to reflect more green light back on the subject, which doesn't look great. Chroma green is a lot darker, so pulling a good key can in some instances be harder. However you can usually work a lot closer to it. For the kind of stuff you do I think 4 feet should be very doable. Lighting your green screen separately is great as well. Avoids shadows. I cant remember off the top of my head, but its worth looking into lighting your screen with tungsten balances lights, and your subject with daylights. Lighting your subject mostly from above helps a lot with shadows. Especially if you can set up some black cards on stands, or barn doors or something to minimize spills onto the background. Again, I really don't want this to come off as me "mansplaining" something I'm sure you know a lot about. Its very apparent you are very skilled at what you do. Its only meant in good faith, in a "maybe some of this is useful" kinda way. Cheers!
I lost count of the hours I wasted looking for tape measures, in the end I thought why am I wasting so much time looking for something that costs like £4 so I just bought them in bulk from eBay? Now wherever I'm working I make sure I have like 10 tape measures with me, which I still constantly loose but at least I can always find another!
Your journey is similar to my building my own USDA on-farm butcher shop. Seven years. Very glad I designed and built it myself. Got to do it right. Sound: key. I designed materials, textures and geometries to minimize sound. Did this both for my cottage and my butcher shop. Works. Vibration isolation helps on equipment. Do you have pressure balancing tanks on your water lines? It hells a lot. Love following your progress. Double entry doors help. Interesting on your gen/bat choice. I get ≈2 weeks of power outage a year.
Eliminating sound is such a challenge. I know a lot more now than when I first started this build. I am just glad that I was able to make the studio super quiet. The main space just has a lot of loud pieces of equipment but even then I am trying to knock that sound down. As for the generator, I feel like we are really lucky here because we don't get a lot of power outages, but it just takes one bad one to do major damage.
My skimmer is from rk2 and runs off an abyzz a200 and is fed by an a400. They have 10,000+ gallon models. Ask for Tim and tell him Jon from MD sent ya for that discount.
I have an old RK2 that we took down a few months ago. I used it well over 10 years. I am looking to stick with a needle wheel design now rather than a venturi.
In between the time the power is lost, and the generator and transformer kicks on, do you have some sort of UPS too? Or maybe you just need individual ups backups on the most critical equipment, like controllers?
Yes. The green screen is illuminated by 4 dedicated lights behind me. I light myself with 3 studio lights from the front. The issue is sitting far from the screen effectively making it smaller.
@@tidalgardens Gotcha, I wonder if you could take like 1-2 min clip of the screen bare then superimpose it with a mask over the borders to fill the gaps. That may not work live but, it may fix your problem in post. Also, great to hear from you. I have been watching since the Nano reef Acrylic build. Love the Channel, keep it up!
This building is incredibly thoughtfully designed. I love that you have the budget to be able to build to the level of perfection that you have. Have you considered installing a solar array or wind turbine to offset some of the power costs in the long run? (And to be able to call yourself a fully green coral farm)
Put airtags on your tape measures? You could easily design something in auto desk, print it out, and each tape measure is tracked wherever it goes. I doubt you’re an Android man, so.
Question: i don't know so much about skimmers but , can the protein skimmer go outside like outside 😊 thx for the video great one I really appreciate your work
Some people have a separate filtration room to isolate the noise of the equipment away from the aquarium. I don't know if having the skimmer outside the building would work here because of the weather.
just curious, I've never heard you talk about apex controllers , have you ever used one? or do you plan on using any type of controller in new building?
We use a few different controllers including Apex, GHL, and Focustronic. We use them mainly for monitoring not so much for actually controlling anything.

I decided long ago that if I was going to spend a large portion of my time in this work space, I want it to be nice :)
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I love hearing about the tools and the construction of the facility. Looks awesome and I can't wait to see more!
Im in construction, always on high end remodels. I'm convinced I pay guys to find tape measures half the day
That is my line!
“You have one job!”
“You’re a GREEN SCREEN!” “What do you mean you’re the wrong color green!?”
First time I've heard someone putting soundproofing into a coral farm, congratulation!

That generator... holysmoke.
Green screens have to be evenly lit. There are 4 lights I use behind me to light the screen and I have three lights in front of me to light myself.

Why?
Sorry. Noah's Ark
Free of the sea.
The HONESTY in this video is unreal...!!
I was always amazed at the plumbing!
Every time I listen about the operation you have there, I am Amazed. It's just beautiful in every aspect. Thanks for sharing.
We can all learn from this guy. Love the ocd level details.
Absolutely. In general the content Tidal Gardens puts out is great and Than in particular is next-level. I buy their products whenever I can.
Have you looked into bashsea skimmers? They can custom build to any size and with their own twisted skimmer design allows you to use any pump on them including DC pumps. Plus US made
Wow! I just love everything Title Garden does. Utilizing the best reliable equipments for the business hands-down.
Absolutely!
Thanks for the update Than, this has been an awesome ride. Surprised you aren’t grey after all that. That would of taken some years off of my life for sure. Your kingdom is grand sir!
All the really difficult stuff is over with (I think). The projects I am working on now are much more fun... just delayed all the time.
Than I love your obsession for absolute perfection! Good enough is never an option. I’m sure it’s costing you a small fortune but your facilities are out of this world! I would genuinely pay money for a tour in person. 😍
Thank you so much!
Abyzz makes the A200 as skimmer version.
Deltec 7i or Schuran seem popular options with the pump.
Thanks for that. I remember a long time ago there was an article about it but for some reason I thought they stopped making it.
You can place two green screens next to each other the one overlapping the other.

A week or more power? You are going to need a large fuel tank added. I bet you get one maybe two days on the genset
2lb natural gas line.

Very well done. Good job.
You had ONE JOB!

You could consider building a removable enclosure for sound isolation of that skimmer. It could even be some kind of closet with a door to enter.
Very possible in the future
Than! Hello from DC/ MD!
Just replumb the protein skimmer and you can use whatever pump you want. Of course that would ruin the resale value.
You can’t find a tape in your multi building coral farm. I have 6 in a 3 car garage and still have trouble finding one when needed...
You sure are a perfectionist. It really shows. Enjoy your videos.
Glad you like them!
Man it even really cleaned up since I was there. Looking great and I always love these videos
Always chipping away at these projects! Thanks again for coming and helping out.
Wow. Crazy stuff. Glad you are so successful with everything.
Thank you!

To be fair, finding a tape measure is worse than trying to find your matching sock.
I have 4... I know where 1 is, I think?
What about a retractable awning for green screen. Those are big, yeah?
Very interesting! And Wow! Amazing generator. 💜✌🐟
In between the time the power is lost, and the generator and transformer kicks on, do you have some sort of UPS too? Or maybe you just need individual ups backups on the most critical equipment, like controllers?
Not a lot but some. Mainly for computers and routers.
Good point. No need to spend 20K+ just to have those 5 seconds for the generator to fire up 😅
Could you do a video about how you afford all these expenses? Does it all come from the sales of corals?
As much as I’d love to know as well, I doubt a business is going to share P&L info
think about implementing a 5S system, amazing for efficiency which in turn reduces costs. I would hate to pay workers to look for things.
That was too cool.
Go big or go home. Than you nailed it!🤣
Have you tried adding light on the floor shining up on the green screen? That’s worked for me in the past. P.S. my zoa shirt is sweet.
Yes. The green screen is illuminated by 4 dedicated lights behind me. I light myself with 3 studio lights from the front. The issue is sitting far from the screen effectively making it smaller.

Just submerse the skimmer pump.
This is pretty amazing! Makes me feel pretty bad about my current set up. But inspired to improve!
👍
Have you looked into Acoustiblok?
Get the Royal Exclusive Skimmer .... believe me you will not regret it !!!

Maybe build something around the skimmer? Or just the pump?
I worry about the pump overheating if I enclose it.
YESS MOREEEE
Love these updates and videos.
Glad you like them!
Absolutely amazing
Put airtags on your tape measures? You could easily design something in auto desk, print it out, and each tape measure is tracked wherever it goes.
I doubt you’re an Android man, so.
Can only imagine the electric bill per month...
Why does it take so long? Isn’t the goal to get it up and profitable as soon as possible?
What about solar? Some crazy tax insensitive for panels from the government
Still considering it. It is not that attractive financially but I do like the energy autonomy aspect.

sheeesh. can we get a ballpark figure of cost? no wonder coral is pricey. it takes all this infrastructure 😳
Those pumps are trash look into DAB pumps we have installed hundreds and never had an issue but have had several of the pumps you posted fail.
Can they pump saltwater?
Seriously waste of $$ for using sch 80 PVC pipe instead just sch 40 considering you are using not that high psi anyway.
I hope you’re patenting your sound dampening ideas...
