That's the right spirit! It is not great but it is good and far from bad. It doesn't even need to win. A song contest imo is a highly questionable thing in the first place. There is no absolute measure of good or bad in music. It is all subjective.

I'm a metalhead and I think Jendrik should have gotten one of the top places. It's a catchy happy song with great message. He is authentic and has a wonderful personality, he writes his songs and put so much work into making the video by himself, the performance, and made his dream to go to ESC come true. There's a video on CZcams about his way to ESC that was really inspiring to watch. Wishing you much success in the future Jendrik!

It has a nice message, some fun lyrics (my personal favourite being 'I really dont care that you want to bash me', and it was a cheerful song to have stuck in my head for the whole of the next day. And Jendrik seems like a really nice guy as well.

Same! I didn't think it would have ranked particularly high, but still it deserved more points, is so cheerful and catchy!
I think this kind of feelgood songs can work or not depending on many circumstances. In 2019 it may have worked, but 2020/21 were difficult times for many people so I guess many wanted to cry out their sadness and other accumulated bad feelings with heavy rock tunes (the only 2 rock tunes were extremely popular in televoting) and melancholic ballads like those of France and Switzerland. Jendrik was simply too light for 2021.
Personally I think it's a catchy song and also sorta funny. I'm sure it worked at least as a contrast to the other serious, bombastic songs and may have given a good laugh or at least a smile to many viewers. I wish Jendrik the best!

No one knows that he did everything on his own... he shot the music completely on his own. he worked so hard for his dream. He was a normal guy just like everyone else and believed in himself.. I think he did a good a job. At least he is not changing for others and does his own thing. Stay in the way you are Jendrik! You are great! Also, if you give this song a fair chance, it will stay und will stuck in your head. The melody gives me such good vibes. Just my opinion

I like this song because it's kinda catchy and I can imagine sending it to someone to make a point or to make a joke on tiktok, you know? Like it's fun, it's tongue in cheek more than explicitly cheesy (which most songs with this messaging run the risk of being) and they performed it with a lot of panache! I like it! I hope they didn't get 0 points for not taking themselves seriously--that's what made it good!

@@j.cr.1207 the judges are always giving points to the same people (Greece-Cyprus, Cyprus-Greece) and the judges votes always hugely differ from the public votes. Italy’s winning entry received no 12 points from any country but made up huge grounds in the public votes. Also, voting costs money because you either have to send an SMS or call.

I'm Italian and of course I'm happy for our win, but honestly I like this song. I don't think it could win the competition, but it's so happy, cheerful and catching! I loved the positive attitude the singer had last night too, he was really nice and sporting, it was clear he was having fun no matter the result! @@Euglena7 I've never said it was Barbara's fault nor anything else, but I've read that not only French journalists spreaded that rumor, but there were also many French people who asked for Italy to be eliminated from the competition, they even asked president Macron to take interest of the matter, and to be honest this seems like a bit too much. As it was too much for French calling Italy "a country of coke kickers". That's not fair nor sporting at all and it's honestly totally different than the attitude the German singer had.

Every year at Eurovision, there's at least one entry that's what I affectionately call "keeping Eurovision weird". It's this "weirdness" that so endears Eurovision to me. I was actually rather proud when my country was flying the flag a few years back.

Well, it is something completely different from all the songs we've had before. And we all know that most of them didn't land that good on the score board. I do like the song but judging from all the previous German entries (some of which I found really good, like Jamie-Lee's "Ghost" in 2016 for example) I'm pretty afraid that either we will mess up the live performance or that others won't like it

@@moserfugger6363 also ich verstehe das ganze eher als Parodie... Bzw Sarkasmus pur. Er singt die ganze zeit davon dass er keinen Hass verspürt... Aber er zeigt jedem den Mittelfinger und in dem video sieht man ja wie zum beispiel das Mädchen im Pool das ausgelacht wurde die anderen Mädchen voll spritzt und komplett Ausrastet, genauso wie das Mädchen mit den Torten und das Mädchen was in der dunklen Gasse angemacht wurde und ihren Aggressor sogar mit nem Regenschirm absticht... Klar der Song ist jetzt nicht der Knüller. Aber ich persönlich verstehe es als einen lustigen passiv aggressiven Stimmungsmacher. Vielleicht würde ich es mir in der Freizeit nicht unbedingt geben, aber der Song ist glaube nicht das was die meisten darin sehen. Klar liegt im Auge des Betrachters... Aber ich habe irgendwie das Gefühl das es eben genau nicht so ein mainstream "lässt uns alle lieb haben" song ist.

Die Intention ist mir relativ wurscht, ich find den Song einfach schei$e und völlig banal. Provozierend ist daran absolut gar nichts, egal in welche Richtung. Wenn sich heute auf diese billige Weise schon provozieren lässt, hätten wir wirklich ein Problem. ;-)

I love Graham Norton, but it's not the first time that he's had a completely nonsense opinion of Eurovision songs. He generally makes fun of all of the fun entries (I guess he doesn't quite get that they aren't just a part of Eurovision that one has to tolerate, but that actually they are vital to the core of the contest as it exists today, and that without these entries, Eurovision would be just some kind of competition instead of the PARTY that it is) and also, he dislikes music that he doesn't understand. I'll never forget how he mocked the Romanian entry "Yodel it!" in 2017 (?) and is generally never particularly kind to Balkan songs, and this year, he didn't even like Italy. Graham Norton doesn't get that not all music that he doesn't intuitively understand because it isn't part of his cultural upbringing is actually bad. (I mean, we're all a bit like this in a way.)
Not hating on Graham Norton, I used to be obsessed with the Graham Norton Show and still watch it occasionally and with gusto. Part of growing up though is understanding that even people we like and respect can be totally wrong about some things. I generally like his Eurovision commentary, but I think he has a tendency to be unnecessarily mean about some entries or participants or the presenters and this is heavily coloured by both a subconscious sense of cultural superiority as well as a heavy bias towards professional entries in a music style he enjoys. (And before you go tell me that he's just joking and I shouldn't take it too seriously: I know that, and I'm not mad at him at all. I like his commentary. I've just also learnt over time not to take what he's saying seriously at all since he's a television personality, not a music critic, and certainly not someone whose professional opinion about any of these songs I would put any stock in.)

Bruh. I don’t know, why everyone hates this song. It’s hilarious, really cute and kind of self ironic. And the message of the song is actually really deep. Many probably didn’t get it.
Aaaand it’s kinda great because there are many small links to the lgbt+ community (the rainbow socks of the middle finger, the rainbow in the cake, during the life performance they included also non binary persons in “ladies and gentlemen, and all of you who don’t want to make a choice” (which he said in german)). And as I’m part of the community, this made my heart blossom.
How they took the zero votes was also great. I would have voted for them, if i weren’t German myself...
