Doug I really like how Safety 1st you are, I’m sure it was important to you prior to the eye incident but even more important now no doubt. It is refreshing to see when people are embracing and promoting safety tips because far too often people think it’s “cool” to not take any precautions.
The "AND" man comes up with yet another "better way". Amazing that all three saws fit in it and the bonus of being able to file the chain with the saws held firmly in place!
I like your saw saddle. I might of used 3 plug holders to stabilize it more & a few bungee cords. I ride Harley & a solid rope doesn't hold a load for many miles, but elastic does. I need to build a saw saddle for my Kabota that also works on my 4-wheeler. Maybe even my log trailer. I've seen some nice tool / saw holders on the front deck of 4-wheelers.
DOUG, this video is awesome for people like yourself, that can think out of the "box" ! Personally I built a 1/2 plywood box that holds my 026 PRO, a long with a quart of bar oil, gal of mix, scrench, extra chains, ect, that is all compartmentalize, that I can throw in the back of the truck when I take the 2hr trip to the cabin. Works great, just a little heavy, but the saw doesn't get banged up or cause problems with the other things I have to haul. Your carrier is much more adaptable to handle various saws, mine is specific only. Good video!
Great design Doug. I’m a logger and firewood producer- I use Westcoast Saw Dogs-there great. The high bottom of the saw dogs keeps the bar and chain out of the dirt. You do need to be careful how you carry them. They are very sharp and will damage you or other things they contact. I keep pieces of plywood handy to place them on. I cut the strings off most of my hoodies just for that reason.
Great job Doug something simple but very handy I like it I’d love to Mach something similar to the box I made for on back of my tractor for my saws love it god bless
The larger dogs are made for the west coast trees to poke through the thicker bark. Here in PA they are not necessary. They in effect reduce your bar length by a couple inches.
Nice. If west coast had put as much thought into their dogs as you did your carrier 🤔,…..you are an amazing problem solver can’t wait to see what you come up with next. And tell Adam that making his own will be good welding practice lol 👍👍
Hi Doug, great idea. I have been thinking about this problem to put a saw on the back of an ATV. To hold the handle down I am think of a bonnet (hood) catch, the rubber style ones that they (used ?) to put on race or rally cars. Quick simple and read made as well as kind to the saw. Also I have got an old rubber car floor mat as the base protection. Cheers Si 😀👋🇬🇧
Really like the solution, I have the same problem with my 391 and the wcs dogs. I have hacked apart a milk carton that kinda works, but not as elegant as your solution. Totally agree with you on the saw scabbard, just doesn't seem like a safe or protective way to cart about the saw.
Great fun to watch and try to guess where you are going with the project. I was doing ok until you put that little recessed area under the dogs. I didn't visualize that at all. Now, get it patented and build a 2nd tier to carry two saws at the same time. The top tier platform can rotate in either direction from the one on the bottom and expose the bottom saw. Stay well and stay safe!
I usually remove the strings on my hoodies lol just because of that reason There are many companies that don’t allow hoodies or jackets to be worn unles they have the removable/tear away hoods 😊😊
Great idea. I am also always saying there had to be a better way. I am constantly tinkering and modifying or building something to make my life easier. Great job .
Absolutely genius! You are also a great teacher communicating the instructions in an easy way to understand. The manufacturers of side-by-side or chainsaws should hire you for consulting to build the jig as an accessory to add to their products.
I removed the strings from all my hoodies and fleeces. It helps in the work shop and in the woods. Also removing the fleece waist strings insures they won’t get caught on your EDC draw of your personal protection.
Great design and fabrication Doug! I don't have an,application for this design, but appreciate the thought and enginuity you put into this project! Great video!
Doug, you are The Man 👍. Love your ingenious design!! Not sure if you ever carry 2 saws with you like I do, so I’d need another holder for the other side. Right now, I just throw both saws in the bed of my Polaris Ranger. If you decide to build another one to hold a 2nd saw, let us know. Stay warm up there!!
I like that a whole lot more than anything else i have seen. It carries the saw in a natural position and doesn't put stress on the bar and is easy to take the saw out to use it. 2 thumbs up great job.
Nice job on the whole package. Get a different strap so you don't tear up your saw where the buckle makes contact to the saw is my only criticism and I am sure you already realized that but used what was readily available.
Man I wanted this video more than you know. I appreciate you sir, thank you for sharing your skills knowledge and experience. I just started watching this I'm sure I'll comment more later.
24:19 I like to take 3/8 chain and cut links in half and weld them to things, ratchet strap hooks fit in them pretty good. I was wondering how you would handle this and your solution looks easier to deal with, I'll have to keep that in mind
I want to make one that will hold 3 saws, I'd prefer to stack them on one side in the back of a pickup. Maybe even on heavy duty drawer slides. I appreciate the inspiration very much. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Excellent work Doug! I have been mulling over a design like that myself. I’d love it you’d do a show on fabricating one of those for a 2022 Yamaha Viking SE…haha!
I was thinking it would be a great way to hold the saw for sharpening all the while you were buildin and tweekin it. Nice work doug. Id like to have one for my ranger. For now i just lay the saw in the bed to sharpen.
Just a suggestion, could you figure a way to V-Groove the rubber on the rear cam lock (or both) so that it would lock the saw handle down without having to use the strap. Other than that, a great job. I like your measurement skills!🤣
The nut on the rubber stopper is an acorn nut, not a castle nut. A castle nut has cuts across it to accommodate a cotter pin to prevent the nut from moving.
Your going to loose a little blade length. The dogs are definitely an issue as your saying, in the holder is helps the dog but you must remember the springs it stop vibrations to the user in usage and that’s where you have it mounted may give you wear and tear to those springs by the mounting process Doug at least on the new one. The old Stihl saws you may not have that issue. The strap may help but being flexible still have that issue with the springs inside the saw for anti vibration. Warning don’t reverse the Polaris into a wall or tree you’ll damage the Chainsaw. Remembering any saw in any vehicle car, truck will bounce around.
How do you store your saws when not in use? Can you cover that or come up with a better way to store them while taking up as little space as possible? I have mine stacked with the bar down in a 1’ wide by 7’ wide space.
Hey Doug … Great Video. I have a Can Am, and will likely use a similar fabrication for my unit as well. (Any patents pending!?!? 😂) Also … I may have overlooked it … did you pick up the WCS chain catch? (It fits into the bottom holes of your dogs.) Oh … and 😂 … the 3” versus 6” … priceless!
Doug, did you run the saw with the new exhaust? I’m nervous to purchase because people say it’s super loud. What’s your opinion? And by the way careful where you set you saw with the news dogs. You will scratch your truck. Mine went right through my line x bedliner like butter.
This link to my other video on the saw explains all of it. Hope you get a chance to watch it. czcams.com/video/EE8Tcb-rtsU/video.html I’m using the “yellow” Stihl chain.
"If my wife is watching, This is 6 inches"........ made me laugh out loud Doug!!...... Stay safe!!
@Jerry G hahaha, you are the only one that has caught that and commented. Thanks for watching!
I caught this too and exhaled so loudly out of my nose, my wife asked me what was so funny!!
the best part is being able to sharpen your saws, now your also saving money on other attachments. awesome
Doug, GOOD MORNING!! Consider putting those compression cord locks on your hoodie and cutting the strings off SHORT.
Doug, good call on safety, the first thin I do with all hoodies is remove the strings.
Doug, Always looking forward to yr next design improvement. Really a cool idea and great work as well. Carl FONDEROSA FARMS MD
Doug I really like how Safety 1st you are, I’m sure it was important to you prior to the eye incident but even more important now no doubt. It is refreshing to see when people are embracing and promoting safety tips because far too often people think it’s “cool” to not take any precautions.

Great job Dough.
You could probably market it...
Love your fabrication vids, Doug…..where you don’t just fabricate, but you give us your reasoning for your plan. Nicely done. 👍
Killer design Doug! What a great setup. Looking forward to more projects like this. Cool intro too!
Ingenious Doug! Every woman watching (not just your wife), understands the 6” measurement 😂😂.
The "AND" man comes up with yet another "better way". Amazing that all three saws fit in it and the bonus of being able to file the chain with the saws held firmly in place!
Great invention Doug! Can you make me one for my Polaris lol
Awesome. Might you need drain holes in the base, especially the dog hole?
Waiting for the off-grid cabin build next. kek
I like your saw saddle. I might of used 3 plug holders to stabilize it more & a few bungee cords. I ride Harley & a solid rope doesn't hold a load for many miles, but elastic does.

I've seen some nice tool / saw holders on the front deck of 4-wheelers.
Nice holder liked seeing the step by step process it took to get to the final product.
Great idea. Now I just need one that works for a gator and a MS362/500i
Great invention! You're always coming up with great solutions.
DOUG, this video is awesome for people like yourself, that can think out of the "box" !

You should patent that! Great solution. I like the fact that it will work with multiple saws and is easily removable.
Definitely a "Custom" job. Brilliant problem solving engineering Doug.

Glad you enjoyed it
M R DAUGS!!! Turns a 24” bar into a 22”.😮. I appreciate your though process.

Nice solution ⛓🪚👍👏 Rick

Great job/solution…I’ve got some nyloc wing nuts that come handy for vibration type situations such as in the UTV
Great ldea,u catch 2 flies with one hit, brilliant!

Super job as always! Well thought out and executed. See you in the next installment.
You may want to drill a drain hole in the dog pocket so water doesn’t stand in there. Cool idea!
Great job Doug!
Very nice and maybe add a thin piece of foam to the bottom to stop the wobble
Awesome Job Doug!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

You got a BarkBox too!
Love these types of videos Doug thanks
I think this is your best video so far. Thanks for sharing.
Cut two slots in the base in the platform for the dog's to sit in if ther is room under it. Thank you Tom from Nebraska
Hi Tim, you might want to watch the rest of the video. We think alike, that’s exactly what I did.
Yes I noticed it right after I sent the message. Thank you for your response Tom from Nebraska
Very well done Doug. I was wondering if it would work for sharpening as well and that looks like a perfect setup.
I like that a whole lot more than anything else i have seen. It carries the saw in a natural position and doesn't put stress on the bar and is easy to take the saw out to use it. 2 thumbs up great job.

My favourite video you have done yet, exceptional mate
Nice job on the whole package. Get a different strap so you don't tear up your saw where the buckle makes contact to the saw is my only criticism and I am sure you already realized that but used what was readily available.
Just brilliant Doug!! Different mounts for different manufacturers and go into production!
I live in the city but now I want to go buy a side by side and chain saw
Man I wanted this video more than you know. I appreciate you sir, thank you for sharing your skills knowledge and experience. I just started watching this I'm sure I'll comment more later.
1:21 this was my thoughts on it also. All the mounts on the internet are the same and not what I want.
5:19 genius

That’s just impressive. Well done Doug. Another great video.
When are you taking it to production?
That's a great idea,I hope you have a few projects to make over the winter.
Excellent work Doug! I have been mulling over a design like that myself. I’d love it you’d do a show on fabricating one of those for a 2022 Yamaha Viking SE…haha!
@Jeff Popple bring it over and we can see what we can get done. Lol.
Neighbor Doug you should patent that and sell your patent to chainsaw copanyies❤
get a full wrap, nice saw. i just picked up the 500iR.
I was thinking it would be a great way to hold the saw for sharpening all the while you were buildin and tweekin it. Nice work doug. Id like to have one for my ranger. For now i just lay the saw in the bed to sharpen.
I love the fact that it's a saw vice when you need to touch up the chain, and removable from the machine!!
Thanks for sharing!
Great job great design!! Stay safe!!
Nice idea and execution. Might add a couple drain holes in the recess for the deep dogs, but pretty fantastic initial build.
Keep up the great work!
Great idea for your chainsaws.
I want to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for the great video's.
Thank you, and the same to you!
Brilliant idea! I really like the idea of being able to have a steady work base for sharpening the chain.
Very cool idea…I’d like to see if I could come up with something similar for my new side by side.
Thanks, it works great!
Just a suggestion, could you figure a way to V-Groove the rubber on the rear cam lock (or both) so that it would lock the saw handle down without having to use the strap. Other than that, a great job. I like your measurement skills!🤣

Doug, dude, you're giving me a complex about posting my farmer style mods. Lol.
Lol, sorry.
The way I look at it, it’s what works best for each person.
But thanks!
Great Idea, I like your inventive ways .
How do you store your saws when not in use? Can you cover that or come up with a better way to store them while taking up as little space as possible? I have mine stacked with the bar down in a 1’ wide by 7’ wide space.
I like your spray booth. Have you thought about making a video on it?
My very first video is all about the booth and ventilation
👍
BTW did I miss where the lock and rides came from? Is it a Polaris accessory ?
Yes they are a Polaris accessory. But mine came from an old roll gage I had from my previous Polaris Ranger.
Doug , talk more about muffler . Please. Craig Pa
Is that a Barkbox on that 462? Adam won't have a chance.
DOUG, put a patent on it!!!!
LOL, that's what I said about his rattle can shaker 😎
I’ll take one
Hey Doug … Great Video. I have a Can Am, and will likely use a similar fabrication for my unit as well. (Any patents pending!?!? 😂) Also … I may have overlooked it … did you pick up the WCS chain catch? (It fits into the bottom holes of your dogs.) Oh … and 😂 … the 3” versus 6” … priceless!
I didn’t get the chain catch, I think I will try to make one.
@@OneEyeCustoms Sarcasm alert: I am absolutely shocked that you think about making one! Completely in your wheelhouse. Show it off!
Another great idea, did you also make the paint can shaker attachment?
Yes, I did.
Doug, did you run the saw with the new exhaust? I’m nervous to purchase because people say it’s super loud. What’s your opinion?
And by the way careful where you set you saw with the news dogs. You will scratch your truck. Mine went right through my line x bedliner like butter.
I have not run it yet. But I wear ear protection and only cut mid day.
Great idea but does friction hold the sheath on?
Yes it does.
Did you ever figure out how to protect your tailgate from the dogs?
Not yet, I would like to discuss with WestCoastSaw and see what their thoughts are.
Doug. Where do I get dogs for my stihl saw and muffler. Please. Craig Pa
West coast saws. Check out their web site
What is the model of your new Stihl?
It is the MS462
Thanks, do you use the chisel tip chain?
This link to my other video on the saw explains all of it. Hope you get a chance to watch it. czcams.com/video/EE8Tcb-rtsU/video.html I’m using the “yellow” Stihl chain.
@@OneEyeCustoms thanks Doug, love your channel and craftsmanship
