One big issue that people are missing when discussing the cabinet allocations is that not all positions hold the same level of power in government. It is not enough to simply look at the total number of cabinet positions, then divide them according to the number of seats held by each party. Look at it like a bushel of apples. Within that bushel there will be large apples and there will be smaller ones. When handing out “fair shares,” the weight of each apple must be considered. You cannot give one party ten of the largest apples in the bushel and call it fair because 10 small apples went to someone else. Instead of looking at the number of cabinet positions each party is being awarded, what should be considered is how much control of the country and its affairs each position carries. Numbers do not matter, level of power does. If you look at exactly which positions the DA are demanding and which are actually being offered, in both scenarios, you will notice that the DA will have a great deal of power over the country.

They made their demands high on purpose knowing that when they “climb down”, it would actually be more or less, or the EXACT number that they were looking for in the first place! That’s how things work in this world. You put a high price on your property so that there’s room for a lower offer which would be the price that you are looking for in the first place!!!

Sizwe, from my perspective working with whistleblowers the first criterion for success, which is foundational to the other success factors you list, is that those who speak truth to power, especially whistleblowers, are protected, supported and incentivized. You need to have an episode with the whistleblowers I work with to get a reality check on just how deep the rot of corruption goes. We are having to source funding to protect them from other countries to keep them safe and in hiding.

When rivals are funded by the markets, we shouldn't be surprised to see such tolerance of nonsense. The DA will not walk away nor the ANC, the markets decided this script before it even played out before us. Whatever is happening here and going to to happen, is not for the best interests of the people, these politics stopped being for the people by the people a long time ago. Whatever happens, I don't really care anymore, I just need to do what a man s'got to do for his familia. Its such a waste of everyone's time and money.

Sizwe, could you perhaps explain this to us in a future? - The 60% consensus rule means that no policies can be changed within the agreement of either party. For this reason, even if DA recieved significant portfolios, won't they infact not have to implemnt the policies that were already in place? If the DA did want to make any significant change to policies for a portfolio would they not need to get the ANC to agree to those changes? The bottom line: If DA gets a portfolio, will they not infact be simply ensuring that ANC/parliaments policies are simply enacted?

My concern with some of the talk about saving the ANC for the long term, is that the discussion is not about the best for the people, but it's once again what is best for the party. Any party whose primary purpose is not to improve the life of all South African's, but rather to secure its future is deeply concerning. We need to move away from party centric politics, to the people centric politics. If the ANC and DA can show that they can work together with the IFP and improve the lives of all South African's, my hope is that both parties will become stronger in the long term.

Hello Dr Mpofu may you please in one of your show speak to what APARTHEID means as according to it's definition and the situation now in RSA. Reading the meaning of it with us being democratic I am now lost and needs clarity. I trust that you can assist because your show is outstanding and clearly explains topics that are discussed. Thank you for your help 🙏
