Match Vlog-Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 Stafford Rangers! *Opening day defeat for 9 men Stafford Rangers!
Stafford Rangers faced defeat on the opening day of the season away at Stalybridge Celtic.
We were up against it when James McQuilkin was sent off in the first half followed by a second yellow card for Joe Robbins which resulted in a second sending off during the game reducing us to 9 men. I thought Cameron Belford and the defence did all they could to keep us in the game but a winning goal for Stalybridge was inevitable after so many chances for them. If we would have been down to just 10 men then quite possibly the game would have finished as a draw. Although the above reasons affected us the attack offered nothing going forward apart from Opoku’s shot which was not even on target. Both sending offs really did not help due to recent injuries which has now stretched the squad even further.
Let’s judge the team when we have 11 players on the pitch for a whole game instead of just the first game. When the two suspended players and injuries are back we will hopefully look a lot better as a team.
We go again on Tuesday night at home to Newcastle Town!

Hopefully we see him feature in the squad on Tuesday night at home to Newcastle. With the squad really stretched at the moment with injuries to Hughes,Cockerline,Opoku & O’Hanlon we did not need 2 players getting sent off yesterday. Wouldn’t surprise me if Dave Cooke looks to play or put on the bench some of our U21’s players.
