    Wow gave me goosebumps watching this.
    The memories sat with my granny and grandad.
    I get why they stopped it but when you were a kid it was a magical experience.

    I was there at the last performance of Peter Jay’s Tower Circus an experience I will never forget. Not a dry eye in the house. At that time Michael Grade was going to strip out this beautiful building and turn it into an arcade. Thank god he didn’t get his wish. We lost the beautiful South Pier Theatre instead. Little did we know worse was yet to come. Thanks to Peter and Christine Jay and the wonderful Norman Barrett. Bastions Of Blackpool entertainment.

    I used to love the Tower Circus! I wonder what happened to these animals after closure?

      I think they went to Blackpool Zoo

      9:42 -@Hazel14686IT1he animals that went to Blackpool zoo were from the old zoo which was on a higher floor of the tower building. The circus animals were only there during the summer season and their act then moved on to other circuses.

    I remember going to Blackpool tower circus with my mum in the late 60s & when the elephant came on he started to go backwards towards us & we thought he was going to sit on us. As animal lovers we thought it was a step too far.

    I'm so glad it's not done how it used to be. It was wrong and commercially money making. I have seen all of the new no animal shows and they are just spectacular without the need for mother nature.

    To all those saying animals in entertainment is cruel, do you look at horse racing, show jumping and even having exotic pets in the same way?

    Why was the use of real animals stopped? I'm guessing due to animal welfare (even tho I am sure they was well looked after) and constant clean up

      because it is extremely cruel and i suppose as the public began to learn about what went on behind the scenes, they wanted an end to it. no family, small cages, poor treatment & horrific training rituals etc. even if the workers treated them well, it is not healthy nor natural for a wild breed of animal to live like that. same goes for the animals at parks like seaworld; i recommend educating yourself on this topic as well as watching the documentary blackfish. very shocking, cruel and sad :(

      @co1267 Před 4 lety +1

      bronte caroline the fact that u even compared seaworld to this is shocking. The behaviours performed by the animals at seaworld are all natural behaviours seen in the wild, these are clearly not. Plus blackfish wasn’t even categorised as a documentary because there was too much false information included. Not to mention the majority of people in blackfish were liars and never even worked with the orcas

      I could be wrong, but i believe when the Endresz family took over the circus they decided not to use animals anymore as they are against it.

    • @andrewlewis5642
      @andrewlewis5642 Před 2 lety

      @@veryevilhomertv the Endresz family had nothing to do with the Tower Circus becoming a non animal show. It was the decision of the then owners First Leisure fronted by Lord Bernard Delfont. Before operating and settling in Blackpool, the Endresz family worked in Circuses around the world, the vast majority of which always included animal acts. And Maureen Endresz herself comes from a long time British circus family who have a rich history and heritage when it comes to animal acts.

      From what I remember an expose on how horses were treated in a big uk circus. I’m not going to mention the name but that’s what did it all
