As Wimbledon kicks off, one pressing question is which royals will attend the Championships. Recent years have seen Prince William, Prince George ,Princess Charlotte and especially Kate Middleton at Centre Court. However, it remains uncertain who will be present this year.
Debbie Jevans, chair of the England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, expressed hope that the Princess of Wales would attend despite her ongoing cancer treatment. “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority,” Jevans told Telegraph Sport. She added that they would provide her with as much flexibility as possible.
Officials have yet to decide who will present the trophies, a role typically held by Kate Middleton, until the morning of the finals. This year's tournament would mark the Princess's second public appearance since her cancer diagnosis in March.
Kate made a surprise appearance at the Trooping the Colour last month, though the Palace emphasized it was not an official return to royal duties. Her next goal is to attend Wimbledon, according to royal expert Marlene Koenig, as she usually enjoys watching major matches and handing out trophies as the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
