He knows his crowds - even then he was coding. This is a white LA crowd with kids and he became David Chapelle; the timing, pacing and vernacular changed for same jokes we've seen on Killin' Them Softly. For a guy so atuned to the reception to his racial humour you can see why his show was so good and why he bounced when he did.
I think he picks it up through him doing street standup. So learnt how to read a crowd really well as it was always different people each time he did that.
Chappelle's such an inspiration to anyone who feels they have some sort of talent, get out there and perfect your craft regardless of the lane you're in !
Even in his early 20's, he was a legitimate pro at this. He wasn't close to perfecting the craft yet, but he was far along enough to have reached success by this point.
I'm going through all his clips and I'm not sure where the comedy is. I see a lot of required lauging and shock humor. I don't see set-ups leading to anything unexpected.
Wow, as you traverse his history, you find that he has made a career repeating the same jokes for about 10 years of it. I guess all comedians do that. Ralphie May did it so much that his jokes were memorized and repeated verbatim at every show, and you could tell by the expression in his face that he just wanted to get through it.
I don't know if it was intentional or not but the running joke of this sketch is another reason Dave is a genius. It started with " we got 5 black people and we will k..... " And in the last one i watched he said " we got five bla" It's like they care even less about blacks.
I love Dave, but please go back and watch Richard Pryor 'Live and Smokin' his 1st concert film and try and tell yourself you don't see the different level of talent. Pryor showed fearlessness in 1971 Dave (rounded into) fearlessness in the 2000's....

I love when I see an earlier version of one of his jokes, and I can see how he develops them over time.
For real it’s actually dope to see how cleaner he got
@M C That's cool. I think we often see genius, and forget how much work and how many long hours go into the end-result that's so damn good.
he doesnt just develop them.. he perfects them...
Young Eddie Griffin was similar very well constructed at young age
You hit the nail on the head. I had no idea how old this joke really was but I do see the development. Delivery and charisma IS everything. 👍🏽
You can really see how much better he got. Which shows that if you put time in you can really perfect your craft.

The legend who turned down the bag and lived
Very underrated comment
And then got a bigger bag that he deserved
Who said he live
I love watching legends being born
Woah. This is a deep cut. I've never seen this one before. Thank you for the upload!
Agreed!
I agree ☝🏼
Right on 🧠no wonder why Tiffany Haddish is bald also now lmao
Lincoln’s are nice cars.. I had a white one. A smooth riding vehicle. Underrated
I love how people have archives of this shit and they post it on a random channel with a random name like who tf do I thank for this lmao

He also matured.
This was how he performed during that time. It was a lot more “performative”
He learnt how to grow into himself.
Mediocre stuff then and now. Lotsa hype for lecture "comedy."

@@chriskazaam896Then why you watching it?. He became one of the biggest comedians on the planet. For mediocre he sure was successful.

The opening joke got so much better with time. It shows that Dave really studied his form and delivery. A true master of his craft
90's were great i liked how people dressed and acted
The 80's and 90's were the best decades
It was a great time to grow up for sure.
Wow never seen this before. This is a Old Skool Classic!
“I had just put gas in it”
Whole new meaning in June 2022.
Dave bulked up so much 😂
This is the only clip of Dave Chappelle I had not seen
He doesn't have to have that underline conveyance of "I'm being funny rn." Now he just talks. And he's a perfect artist of comedy from doing so.

thank you for uploading this!! never seen this before
This guy is going places!!
finally something new
Well kinda lol
we probably havent seen like 80% his work on yt. kinda sad cuz i dont know where else to find chapelle clips

Sure
Finally something new!
Its a lonely feeling isn’t 😂
Dave felt the same way as the fan who clapped since their the only one’s from NY
The goat has always been great 😅
Holy moly… so good even then AND so much material I’ve never heard!
So he's basically been the best this whole time
All those people were watching a future legend for the first time and didn't even realize it.
He was born a legend 👏🏾
The GOAT himself!

so do i....when people actually knew how to take a joke ...laugh and keep it moving...

Watching the crowd balk at some his jokes makes me remember how different it was back then compared to now.
hilarious he did the same joke about the plane and terrorist not taking a black hostage, he just did it in the Netflix episodes.
Young Dave looks like Lakeith Stanfield
Amazing
Wow some new material from Dave we are wowed
how long you been hoarding this video LOL
😂😂😂
Compare to a beast body of today's chappelle ... This guy is a one step to success..though it kinda funny 'cos he look nervous as hell😂
great thing to find this young legend!, but shame that there this hissing on the audio =/
Dave took his shirt off and put it on the mic stand. Obviously, Dave watched a lot of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.
If this guy refine his jokes a little bit, he'll be a decent comedian in the future.
😂😂😂
GOAT
Same day when Selena Quintanilla got killed. RIP angel.
His pacing seems to be a little dragged at points but nice set
May be coz he's not sporting a 2 inch wedding tackle like you
I don't mind pacing. I do mind not getting unexpected punch lines & ethnic shock humor.
