The thing is, Russia has _always_ been doing this, for generations, in both war and peacetime. The Czar's agents wrote the "Protocols" over 125 years ago, for goodness sake. They're like fishermen constantly putting hooks in the water. It doesn't matter to the fisherman how many hooks he uses, because he knows that one or two will always catch a fish. It's remarkable how the government in Russia changes from monarchy to communism to kleptocracy, but their information warfare approach to the West has always remained the same.
And yes, AI could give them an enormous advantage. Imagine the coming era when entire videos like this one will be convincingly simulated by AI. We're going to need new ways of verifying the truth, and we'll need them very soon.
Thanks for your opinion, I'm glad people understand this. Repetitive patterns are also present in other aspects. For example, people were deported and then the territories were populated by other peoples to mix and convert everyone into russians. This was done by the Russian Empire, and under the USSR, the same thing is happening today. @@dj-jn7qs yes it is. Just looking at vids which i know lots of (lets say broadly geographical, biology topics as im biology grad student) he never got something very wrong. Not educated about to verify his history politics vids, but i random fact checked some, no issue. but yeah, hes very consistent in quality and veracity. He also uses ai very sparingly, when needed which i like. Too many people nowadays use ai voices or pics it sucks even when the script is really good. Im impressed.

Then you have major non state sources of disinformation, like the fossil fuel industry, which is a major influence in the US and other countries, and is supported by the Republican party, so you're right in a sense, but not entirely state sanctioned, and more of a threat from private industry when it comes to disinformation from western based sources.

That’s amusing, considering the growing distrust of western media is in no small part a result of Russian misinformation campaigns.
It’s not nearly as bad and it’s also part of Russias disinformation campaign. You can argue that all media is biased and thus manipulating but Russian media is within a parallel universe. Mainstream western media portrays events differently depending on the source but Russian media straight up manufactures and invents events.

Laws do not need to be fair or just or something you agree with, they just require overwhelming force to exist. Any war that goes against the wishes of the most powerful military on Earth would probably be illegal, in exactly the same way laws work in day to day life - they only exist if a power exists to exert them. Haha I think it’s important to understand that everyone puts out propaganda to some extent.
If you think about it in a war context from a logical perspective it would actually be dumb to report everything completely honestly and in detail. You’d be giving your enemy strategic information they can use against you. And you’d be harming the morale of your own troops. So I think people who think everything from one side is the full truth are kidding themselves. There’s a lot we simply don’t know, despite people in media talking confidently about those things as if they know them for a fact. We have seen many cases of factual statements reported in the war that turned out to be completely false. On both sides. The one part we can know with reasonable confidence is where the front lines are, and whether certain things have been hit if we have footage. But other than that, especially casualty figures, are completely unverifiable and subject to propaganda for the above logical reasons

And being given a false impression of the situation could potentially lead to the people deciding differently. In a sense the elected government of those ppl is potentially capable of either intentionally or unintentionally manipulating them into supporting something they wouldn’t had they known the details.
However the other side of this is that Ukraine could potentially lose out significantly if they give all that useful intelligence to Russia. And then the money Americans provided is wasted anyway. Hypothetically.
So there’s no easy answer to that. And I guess it’s more degrees of truth that matter. Perhaps the line to draw is that if the war is completely unwinnable with what America will realistically provide Ukraine then hiding that fact is a problem. Whereas if Ukraine will win either way then hiding the details from the American people probably isn’t a big deal.
I guess then the question becomes what truly is the situation on the battlefield etc?
