Mysterious, eerie, and other worldly, in love with super early Floyd!! More vids on the way later today!! 🥰
Superb you checked this one out!
All Pompeii tracks are legendary.
Glad you liked this pick! 2 more on the way later today!
It's so great to hear this earlier stuff through a new set of ears.
Nice, thanks so much for watching! I've known this song for 5 hours now lol
Your analysis of the song was spot on.
Appreciate that. Thanks so much for watching!
Careful!
Ha, thanks for watching Larry!
Fabulous. Used to get wasted to this in 1987 or so ❤
LOL...nice
This is a signature song from the early Pink Floyd years. Another great Pink Floyd song from that early era is ASTRONOMY DOMINE, live, from the 1969 Ummagumma album. Outer space music.
Hi, yes... MANY of those early song titles really are capturing my interest! Make sure to check back later today if you can!! 😉
@@retroreactions.... Brandon, I think you’ll like Astronomy Domine live from Ummagumma. To me, it is like a trip through the heavens in a space ship. (In contrast, in Echoes is like a trip in a submarine with those Sonar beeps in the beginning.)
Nice, I'm gonna have to cram in a mess of PF 60s songs when 60s week comes around!!
Also "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun."
Nice!!!!1 I love this week, right off the bat!!!!!🏏 🪓 ☺🎶🎶💟☮
2 more coming today!!!
cool
Yes indeed, musical hommage to the gods 😇, Pompeii is such a powerful place for it🤓👻
Loved your reaction❣️The first time I heard it, I was totally tripped out, so analyzing wouldnt have been possible for me🤣
Very triptastic! Luckily I knew about the scream in advance!
@@retroreactions.... haha, OK, yes that Info probably was very helpful 4u, I was taken by surprise and knocked out immidiateley these days 😵🥴🤣
🤣
Love this song!! Back in the late 70’s I’d attend a midnight showing of “Pompeii” and it would get a little “hazy” in the theater during the music. Back then you’d find theaters running midnight movies on Friday nights. They would usually show “Pompeii” or Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains the Same” or “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. The good old days. Lol. I’ll be looking forward to see what others you’re going to release today. 🌈
Wow you were havin all the fun while I was home playing with toys and watching Sesame Street lol!!
Thanks... to me they were all great today! I'm sure there's a good chance you know them already!
Still stunning! The screams! Beautiful guitar! The melody! And yes,you did need long hair & a beard to create this kind of music!
Hi Brandon, it was a bit confusing for me when I first heard this title (and others from the same period), I had just discovered Pink Floyd with their album "The Dark Side of the Moon", which made me decide to buy their previous albums. A completely different face of their rather surprising talent which I didn't like at first but which I was able to tame afterwards. Pink Floyd has always been surprising throughout their career, for our pleasure!
Yes I could see how this one would take some getting used to, but one of my mottos in life is, the weirder the better!
@@retroreactions.... Yes, weird things can sometimes be very satisfying, launching into the unknown makes us learn and often progress.
🙃
Out of all the fantastic and amazing things Pink Floyd have done over the years, this is my absolute favourite concert where i go to escape, wind down and chill out. Have a listen to 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun', it's mesmeric you'll love it.
Hmmm, not saucer? I will add your vote for Set....thanks!
@@retroreactions.... saucer as well as set the controls. Live at Pompeii is a brilliant release of earlier Floyd. As with most Floyd , the whole album is a must.
OK, thanks!
And as the sun fell below the tree line and the shadows began to advance and peer out from behind the scrub, the children continued to follow the dark mysterious figures beckoning's further into the woods...and they were never seen again. That's what i imagine with this song. It's alluring and disturbing.
Wow that was an intense story! Are you a writer?
@@retroreactions.... haha no. am an artist thoe.
Sweet!
The live at Pompeii on VHS was my introduction to Floyd when I were a teen, I instantly knew that I was hearing something uncomprehendingly good. (Wow, that’s the biggest word I’ve ever written, how completely appropriate!) I’ve already recommended all or anything from this, but no words are big enough to describe this stuff.
Well done Brandon, it was a joy to see you, still being blown away by a band that’s blown you’re mind over and over. I love the ‘live’ video theme idea. That’s by far the way prefer to take music on CZcams.
I rate this reaction video “epic platinum “ , yes that’s right, Retro Reactions gets the highest score yet again.
Cheers buddy. 👍🎸🤘
Thanks bud...It's more work though so won't be too common here hehe....but love changing up and doing themed days or themed weeks once in a while! Thanks for that epic rating. You're the best!
@@retroreactions.... No, your the best, I’m only your best fan!
Hope you’ll react more of them Live at Pompeii !
Sounds great! That one is definitely on my list... so much more Floyd ahead on my journey! 😀❤️🔥
Besides David's vocals during the scream sequence, David is also vocalising his notes from his guitar at the same time. If you listen carefully you'll pick it up.
Nice, will have to go back and listen for that! Thanks
Musical revolution, this is History, so good, so intense so seeking, touching, exploring, Union elaborating Ecstasy, couraged, wild and still tasteful Floydy😍
One of my alltime favorite musical pieces besides Set the controls of the heart of the sun and echoes. When you can surrender to it and let go musical standard expectations, it shifts your perception and frees layers of creativity... Love Ricks athmospere, Davids acid solo waves, Rogers voice windy interference and Nicks drum carpet...❣️❣️😍😍😍😇
Dang beautiful review! Your review gets the epic platinum record award!! 😊
@@retroreactions....😁 Tyvm for appreciate even your viewers, shows something 😇🙏
☺
Great choice ! Especially live from Pompeii. I really dig the early, vintage Floyd before most people knew anything about them. Another one of their spooky tunes as Richard Wright’s organ play makes the song sound as though it came from the 16th Century. But that’s very indicative of early Floyd. Love it !
Thanks Steve! Def excited to hear more early Floyd!
@@retroreactions....
Cool ! I highly recommend the song
" Interstellar Overdrive " from their 1st album, " Piper at the Gates of Dawn. " Insanely pychedelic.
Ok thanks, will add your vote!
The Pompeii version isn't bad (almost any live version of this song is better than the studio recording, I think from the "Relics" album) but I still prefer the version from the live record of the "Ummagumma" album. This version is darker, more sinister and even more intense than the Pompeii version. Although they almost doubled up the tempo, it is even slightly longer than the Pompeii version. Nick's better, David's better, Richard's better, Roger's better. In addition to the wild break in the middle, I particularly like the Arabic-style tones that Richard keeps throwing in on his organ on the "Ummagumma"-version. But well, "Ummagumma" is something for the future. 🙂
Hello...Thanks for the comparisons....so studio version is the worst in this case? Strange that Umma is half live and half studio....
@@retroreactions.... Yes, very unusal for this time. The first two sides are live and the other two studio recordings. On the studio sides each member of the band was responsible for writing one song alone. (ok, Waters had two). The only other album I can think of is Rory Gallagher's "Irish Tour '74". The first three sides are live and the two songs on side four were created from jam sessions in the studio.
Ummagumma outshines throughtout the live gems, the studio part is a collection of experimental solo works. This is more historically a very interesting escapade of them to understand where there going too, couraged, common music expectation mismatching, playful as hack, but kind of forcing strange 😁
Good you play other than Echoes,.. i believe it is still in the pompeii arena at night ,,
Thanks Kevan
Wow…changed my mind. Didn’t think I liked any pre-Meddle PF but this was cool! 👍 the visuals went very well with the music as well.
Haha I thought you meant my backdrop for a second!! Yes, nice visuals in the vid....glad I could convert you to some early PF!
there we go we're diving deep now.
Thank you
I'm glad you changed your mind.
It's a
Saucer full of secrets
you know.
✌️
🤠🏞️🐂
Thank goodness it was performed in 1972 haha....there's also this album called Relics apparently...😀
Gilmour also gave vocals at times matching his guitar notes.
Cool, have to listen back....thanks Paul!
Since you enjoyed this track, another very similar one in concept/structure is "One of These Days" off of Meddle.
Hello! Well I did react to the live version of OOTD already (from Pulse)! Let me know if you'd like the link..
The opening organ evokes an American band - The Doors(famous for their use of the keys). This being the early 1970s, psychedelic rock was still going(PF did get their start in that genre, after all), no surprise this is psychedelic(or perhaps the related genre " acid " rock). Excellence all around, per usual
Yes, that part did sound strangely familiar! Definitely different but I'm all for it! Thanks bud
Roger's scream still gives me chills every time I hear it, even after all these years! I get scared to death! Just wait until you hear and see "A Saucerful of Secrets", also in the Pompeii version. One of the most impressive things I've ever heard, I'd give TWO epic platinum awards to it, probably even better than the legendary "Echoes" rendition in the same pseudo-concert. Pink Floyd explains chaos and harmony perfectly in just 10 minutes, much better than any philosophy professor in a prestigious university could ever do!
WOW...
Early Pink Floyd is way different from Dark Side of the Moon and forward. Maybe Echoes was the start of the new Floyd
That's for sure!! Thanks for comin back!
Growing up, I would play Ummagumma on the family stereo in order to edify others during the process of mastication. The studio version was thereupon cradled, and oft' was the time that I would play the keyboard part of this song on the family piano, to the delight of no one, I might add, but neither to their censure. I noticed just now that Richard improvised much of the live version, and may have skipped entirely the part I was most fond of playing. But I shant fault him for the omission, for who am I to find fault...the one within whom all faults are conjoined? "The Narrow Way" from Ummagumma est tres etrange et magnifique. Like you. And like me. Peace and music!
Thanks for sharing! Love hearing viewer's past memories!! Nice, will have to hear the studio version to compare the difference... thanks as always MrW..
@@retroreactions.... A warning in advance, since you will be on headphones...he screams in that one too. Great show ya got here. Old Floyd is magnificent Floyd.
Thanks!
David Gilmour is a genius
YESSSS
The scream on this track from ummagumma will make you jump. The organ is more creepy on that one also.
Thanks for the heads up haha....and thanks for watching!!
People are pretty divided on Ummagumma. Very experimental stuff to be sure. But one of my favorites.
Yes I can see why...
@@159awi my third favourite Floyd album
@@doscwolny2221 I can't seem to relate to anything earlier than Umma.
The best song on Pompeii in my opinion is A Saucerful of Secrets. Echoes best version is the studio version but the Pompeii version of Saucerful is by far the best they've done.
Nice, came close, but I think it's a long one right, and I wouldn't have had time to do all 3 reactions today.. will keep that one in mind!
Thanks so much for watching!
@@retroreactions.... Cool, there are 3 versions that I'm aware of. The studio version from the eponymous album, A live version on Ummagumma and the Pompeii version. You might want to give the studio version a try before going with Pompeii. Jesus, how many times can I put the word version in a sentence.
Don't version, it's no version!!!
Getting a little confused with these early songs appearing on more than 1 album haha....
Whe Roger Waters start to scream, that´s rock history!
👽
🛸
hee hee
8:24 Roger gets shacked with the mic.
I am very disappointed. An old meandering Pink Floyd instrumental from the 60s? This is not the Pink Floyd song I was hoping for.
Sorry to hear...well there is another Floyd video coming later today, I hope you will enjoy that one, and a third video today as well!!
You know I'm gonna cram in as many lives as I can this week!
@@retroreactions.... It is just my view of course, but I do not like Pink Floyd's material before Meddle. And even on that, I am only keen on the opening and closing tracks.
All good, thanks for any watch time and for the comment though!
FLOYD IS FLOYD LOL!!!!!
