    MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO 😃
    ⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Just south of Granada, hidden in the Sierra Nevada mountains is one of the most magical regions of Spain. Las Alpujarras. It's a remote spot, dotted with gorgeous white villages, where you truly feel like you're getting away from it all. Yoly and I spent a few days there recently, and this is the vlog of our trip. Below, I've included the itinerary, for anyone who'd like to explore this region of Spain.
Before you go, I suggest reading the following two books to really understand the destination:
DRIVING OVER LEMONS: All about Chris Stewart's famously challenging and fun experience of buying and moving to a farm in the Alpujarras : amzn.to/2LDEJJS
SOUTH FROM GRANADA: Writer Gerald Brenan moved to the Alpujarras in 1919 and the book is an incredible insight of life in an Andalusian at that time : amzn.to/2RlstTH
We stayed at the cosy CASA ALPUJARRAS in Bubión: booki.ng/2EYXbeF
    Some tips for your stay:
Stay in either of the three most famous villages: Pampaneira, Bubión, Capileira
We stayed in Bubion. It's not the most beautiful of the three villages in the area, but that also means it's a little cheaper and you can walk between the villages relatively easily - so it forces you to walk, which is great! Of course, you'll have a car as well, and each village is only a few minutes from the other by car.
We explored both Pampaneira and Capileira on foot in one day. We had lunch at Casa Ricardo in Pampaneira, which was good for rustic fare and has a lovely terrace goo.gl/maps/ZALPTk6AEfz
Between Capileira and Bubion is the bar called El Secadero [goo.gl/maps/sVjsjgWozpD2 Definitely check it out. Great place to drink costa wine and eat ham.
La Cebadilla goo.gl/maps/8vSvmbQuhK32 is the abandoned village we explored. It's interesting, but access via car is rough and takes about 30 minutes from Capileira. I wouldn't go out of your way if you're tight for time.
Trevélez is a fun place to go for the serious predominance of ham. We ate at La Piedra Ventana goo.gl/maps/GEkZYy8PXrw which was very good.
If you want to visit "La Mezquita" (the abandoned medieval settlement) then here is the location: goo.gl/maps/Go6NtraPnBy. Park on the side of the road and get walking. It's not easy, and I suggest using Google Maps to locate yourself. Be ready for an adventure!
We didn't get time, but you could also visit Yegen, which is where Gerald Brenan lived (author of South from Granada).
    WHO ARE WE? 🥝

My husband and I visited these 3 villages in 2012 and loved them so much; the water, the waterways down the steep streets, the local shops, the people, the views, etc. We went on a little hike on the edge of one of the towns and got accompanied by a friendly cat "guide."

Wow it’s crazy how similar these town are to rural Ranchos in Mexico. The one where my parents are from is very similar lots of little square houses all next to each other in a hillside with small alley ways. After all Spain did conquer Mexico so it really shouldn’t come as a surprise 🇲🇽🇪🇸

My favourite part of Spain. Drove through Sierra Nevada from Madrid to the coast in July about 15 years ago. Had to stop at a petrol station to fill in and got a sun stroke on the way to the cashiers :). Tarmac also melted runinig my new Converses.. Still it was worth it - beautifull scenery, completely deserted and those old abandoned sheds... Just magic - better than a time machine!

Hello James, do you have a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? The Son of God. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9. And please ask the Lord Jesus to bless you with wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and discernment. And please ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you for all of your sins and transgressions.

You are convincing me like others to live in Spain being a dual citizen of the USA and Ireland. I have worked in many countries in Europe but I have not been to Spain. I planned a trip to Spain for the past 20 years plus. LOL. I keep going back to the same countries to live and work like Italy being half Italian by ancestry, England, Ireland, Czech Republic. Many people I have worked with in Europe always told me to try Spain and Portugal because they are amazing places.

Yes! Tropical salad has this name because Granada coast is called "costa tropical", all the fruit and vegetables of this salad grow in the fields of Granada´s coastal villages. La Vega de Granada is so fertile specially next to the sea, towns like Motril and Almuñecar produces a lot of exotic products that can´t grow in any other place of Europe.

I absolutely love these villages. Eating at a local restaurant is amazing and when I was visiting Andalusia area, I tried to seek out the local mom and pop establishments for an authentic feel of the area, but we went with the flow and realized most of the places to eat are small establishments and each place is special in their own right.

Just had to join in on this video. My husband and I have travelled almost the whole of Spain over the years on a motorbike.
The diversity of this beautiful country never fails to astound us.
From the verdant greenery of the north with its picos, through the cherry blossom countryside, the almost intoxicating perfume of the orange groves and the unbelievable farmyard smell of the “bull countryside “. All senses are magnified on a bike. You’re just so close to nature.
I’ve eaten baby eels and what we call periwinkles in Asturia, robo in Córdoba and Paella in Valencia. How lucky am I ?...
I’ve finally got round to learning the beautiful Castilian Spanish language and have had three separate weeks at Spanish language schools. It’s finally falling into place, although as we all know, the more you learn, the more you realise you don’t know!
Thank you so much for doing these great videos. They are truly special.

A good video with a lot of good filming in the beginning and some historical and cultural information. And you indentify the places you visited, which is essential for those who have no idea of Spain. I am surprised the chestnuts were so difficult to get. Here in the north of Portugal they practically give them away. We still have loads of them from last year. Great trip to Trevelez, the highest village in Spain, but I don't think the wine would be very good there. The view of the secadero was excellent. One of your best videos.

La Cepadilla, what a beautiful place, it's a shame it is abandoned but I can understand why. It can be difficult to leave in such remote place but the area look gorgeous. I hope some inspired people will give a new life to this lovely place. I hope to visit too soon. Thank you for the video. I love Spain😊

I'm 55. And my tastes in alcohol have...broadened considerably. But I still prefer, above all, Andalusian Sherries. Pajarete is a particular favorite, but Agua de Valencia and Paxarette we miss a lot.

Hi and a Happy New Year to you both.
You really do need to get out of Madrid more and see more of the real Spain. We live in the Sierra Sur de Jaén and we have all those things here plus more. People just think of olives when they think of Jaén Province and why not, it is the world's largest producer of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and that is the real stuff not just labelled as such to sell at a higher price. However, the Reyes Catolicos spent several decades trying to get past this area and reach Granada so we have a lot of history of those times and mementos such as the Atalayas some Moorish facing North when the Christians were in that direction and some Christian ones facing South. We have Moorish Fortalezas and Mosques with Christian churches inside showing how the Christian Kings weren't quite as mercenary as one might think in that they were prepared to re-purpose the places they took over rather than just destroy them.
In addition we produce tons of cherries for home and export markets and one of our varieties, Lamper, goes to Italy to Ferrero for their Cheri chocolates. We also produce, just in our village, almonds, peaches, quinces, pomegranates, caquis, oranges, figs, etc.
