- The 2007 Hawaii Warriors football team did the unthinkable by going undefeated in the regular season and capturing the hearts of football fans everywhere. Led by a Heisman caliber quarterback, an under-rated wide receiver room, and an innovative head coach the Warriors survived and put together a storybook season. This is the story of the 2007 Hawaii Warriors football team, aka the Miracle Squad.

R.I.P. to one of the best CFB QBs of all time Colt Brennan.
Michigan dropped Hawaii from their 2007 schedule during the off-season between the 2006 and 2007 to avoid a potential upset. At least on other team did, as well , late in the 2006 season. That led to Hawaii scrambling for a full schedule in 2007, also why it was so “weak.”
What made that season a miracle is how little resources Hawaii has for their athletic programs compared not only to P5 schools but even in their own conference. When Colt stayed one more year, he took that opportunity to galvanize institutional support for UH athletics.
Sadly, his call to action was not heard and UH is now playing the 2023 season on a make shift practice field with 15k temporary bleacher seats. Their 50k state authority run Aloha Stadium now sits empty and condemned as unusable.
Those who mock this team from the position of the P5 have no idea what was accomplished despite the barriers UH faces. When Hawaii’s team is playing well, something feels right again with College Ball. Because you know it had nothing to do with paying off the right people or players to get their notoriety. It is earned from sea level.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this point. I think that’s what also makes this story so much more heartbreaking in the end. They had the opportunity to catapult their program to the next level but pushed their coach away and decided not to invest more. The fans were ready for it and the teams were ready for it
That’s ironic if Michigan really did that 😮 cause 2007 is the year Appalachian state upset Michigan with blocked field goal
University Hawaii @ Manoa, the faculty and staff there were and still are so damn incompetent. Football Program has still not recovered.
Hawaii produces great D1 Athletes and UH cannot keep them at home:
Notable Hawaii talent that went to D1 colleges elsewhere;
Marcus Mariota
Tua Tagovailoa
McKenzie Milton
Dillon Gabriel
Jayden Delaura
Kaniho Brothers(Boise state)
Taulia Tagovailoa
Kona Schwenke
Manti Te’o
Aaron Francisco
Chris and Maake Kemoeatu
Al Afalava
Suaesi Tuimaunei
Hauoli Kikaha
Jordan Taamu
That “earned at sea level” line was hot, because they really have to. I’ll come back to this comment if I ever need to give a god speech.
Hawaii would’ve beat Michigan that’s why lol
Btw there’s a new tradition that’s happening. At the end of the 3rd quarter at a UH home game, we call it the final 15. Final 15 minutes left in the game and also in honor of number 15 Colt Brennan. Everybody in the stadium turn on their phone flashlights while the PA announcer plays Colt Brennans favorite song from Bob Marley. Goosebumps I tell u or what we locals call it “chicken skin”
Born and raised in Hawaii, this was my childhood. Used to love going to aloha stadium and tailgating with the fam. Good ol days
RIP Colt Brennan
Brennan was so good. When he was on, it seemed like he would lead them perfectly to where if the receivers didn’t have arms, the ball would hit them in the facemask. You even saw it in Washington, but by then his alcoholism was getting the best of him, and we eventually figured out that it was CTE.
That was a magical season man. You not lying with the anxiety that season, but almost every game was a thriller! That receiving core was nasty and Colt is a LEGEND! Thanks for the video.
RIP COLTBRENNAN#15
Colt Brennan and Timmy Chang were two of the best. Loved watching them. Go Bows
Thanks for spotlighting this squad. I'm not a huge college football fan compared to the NFL, but I do remember being fairly invested in this Hawaii team at the time due to the June Jones/Run N' Shoot system that was helping them win games. It was fun to watch Brennan toss the rock all over the field. I thought he might have a decent chance at a career in the NFL, but it never materialized. Shame that he passed away so young. At least Devone Bess was able to last a while in the pros.
2007 was indeed a magical and unforgettable season.
Imagine if the 2007 team had "Nasty" Nate Illaoa as RB/FB option. The Warriors' win vs reigning Fiesta Bowl Champion Boise State was also impressive.
Hawaii took players that no one wanted, or give them a chance and they became something special
Love the video.
Just one note, @12:33 you're showing Greg Salas, not Grice-Mullen lol
Colt was my fkn boii man loved those days we da same age shit rest easy my brother all love
Thank you for making this 💚🖤
Thanks for sharing. This is awesome and I didn't know a lot of this info. The Washington game was my first college football game I watched and I have been a fan ever since. With NIL, smaller schools like Hawai'i have no chance to make it much higher. Players use the small schools as steppingstones to get to the bigger schools just like coaches do the same thing. Now even schools will leave conferences for richer conferences which is why the PAC 12 will be the PAC 2 next season. But I can see Hawai'i having winning seasons again and get to bowl games again. But making those New Year's Six bowls might never be in our cards again. So that makes this miracle season so much more special.
June Jones coached the Falcons for a few years. Jerry Glanville was the Warriors defensive coordinator for a bit.
In today's game bro would be the number 1 pick
Man those unis and helmets are dope 👌🏻
I've been around for a long time and the most memorable moments for my experience have come from professional boxing 🥊 and the greatest sport to ever exist COLLEGE FOOTBALL and pro wrestling is pretty cool too
Colt Brennen to Davon Bess I always looked for them as a kid I already knew those 2 were great
💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥 #TeamHawaii
Im from hawaii and a ling time UH fan. Where tf does this guy get his info from? 😂😂😂😂
Buddy... You said "Davonte" Bess, showed a pic of Greg Salas for Grice-Mullen... I appreciate you recapping the memories... but those are simple mistakes.
Fav underdog team: Boise State or Marshall 🤙🏼
What kind of research goes into doing this I’m trying get into it back. No one wanna help out shit crazy
Reach out to me on instagram (it’s linked to my channel in my channel page)
Then GA destroyed them but Hawaii was awesome! Until GA!
We need to put Fentynal dealers under the prison.
June Jones left after 2000 season???? That's what I heard but you meant .....
Bryan Kelly
2007 i think they were still rainbow warriors
Wow. Just looked at Hawaiis schedule again. W E A K.
They still beat 10-1 Boise State, still impressive and won the WAC outright. Anyways, I always thought the 2006 team was actually better (they had Nate Illaoa and Reagan Mauia as RB/blockers). The 06 team lost at Alabama 25-17, beat Perdue 42-35 and lost to Oregon State 35-32. Finished 2nd in WAC behind Boise State and beat Arizona State 41-24 in the Hawaii Bowl. That team would have played a closer game with Georgia (not saying they would have won.)
@@TheHaloRed I agree with you about the 2006 team they was a much better team than the 2007 both teams are impressive no one believed they would do would win as many games as they did
Do the Rise of College of Idaho
UGA 41-10 Sugar Bowl
Boise State
what does that northern colorado punter story have to do with this clip? Totally nothing... Not like he would of had an impact towards the game!!! Airred their business out for nothing in my opinion!! Really uncalled for in this clip..
They lost by 31 to UGA. The only test of this team all year
To be fair also arguably the toughest team of 2007, and best SEC team. Literally outranked all SEC teams, but then Tennessee with a worse record made the SEC Championship game ahead of them somehow and played LSU (who was also ranked behind Georgia).
@@MattLindon-wv8jylol, hell no. LSU was leagues better than UGA.
@@ghostwalker89 Which explains why Georgia outranked them nearly the entire season.....
@@MattLindon-wv8jy UGA couldn't hold LSU's jock.
Georgia had 1 month to watch videos on UH before they actually played. June Jones was already on his way out of UH after agreeing to take on the coaching job at SMU. In the Sugar Bowl, you could see that there were NO new plays or wrinkles in the offense and were predictable, but knowing June Jones, if he was still going to be there, he would have put in plays that Georgia would not have seen before.
You forget that for UH, they have NO 3, 4 or 5 star recruits. How many does Georgia and many of the SEC teams have? TONS of them!
Yet UH beats many major college teams and the big conferences even reneged on scheduling their games against UH for fear of losing to them which would ruin their BCS bid chances.
Colt Brennan had throughout his career, high school, college, professional a 71% career passing completion rate. Yet he has an 0-line and receivers that aren't even recruited by any of the major conferences. Imagine if Colt had the O-line and receivers that many major colleges have?
You can look at most major colleges NOW and you will see exactly the same offense, 4 wide receivers, one back, and 5 linemen. The QB is in shotgun. Why are all the major colleges running this same exact offense NOW after all criticizing Colt Brennan and Hawaii as a "system Quarterback". Why are they now scoring 40+ points a game and winning? Because they have the talent that major colleges get recruits all the time, while UH has to manage with what recruits they can get.
UH cannot get recruits who wants to play in front of their families and friends, and who can drive to see their games. Not many recruits has family that can afford to fly to Hawaii much less paying for hotels, rental cars, food. Many recruits stay home nearer to where they can have family and friends come to see their games.
Even Pro teams are running a similar offenses.
One of the weakest schedules in D1a history, but still one of the greatest stories in D1a history.
I was so into UH football back in the June Jones era. But ironically my interest cooled off in the Brennan years... good player but just couldn't stand him and all his worshippers.
