In this episode, we got a chance to sit down with the insanely talented rapper, actor, producer, director and most importantly, die-hard Philadelphia sports fan, Lil Dicky!
The guys talk to Lil Dicky about what’s next for him after the release of his album “Penith” and the news that his show “Dave” is going on hiatus. Lil Dicky also delves into the making of his show, what it was like shooting scenes with Brad Pitt and which guest star he’s most surprised agreed to join the show.
We then get into Lil Dicky’s early career beginnings, funding his first music videos with bar mitzvah money, his musical background, as well as the intensity of his high school tennis team! Dave also shares his “Welcome to the Industry” moment.
We also talk all about Lil Dicky’s lifelong Philadelphia sports fandom, including what makes Philly fans so different and why Jason’s Super Bowl victory speech means so much to him. Lil Dicky then gives his thoughts on “The Process,” explains his rap name origin story and gives us his Mt. Rushmore of rappers-turned-actors.

The funny thing is he tried to come into Hollywood as a comedy writer. Nobody liked him so he went to rapping. He's admitted it more than once. A humble and very intelligent dude.

58:01 I have often told my 14 and 6 year old sons that these two men are absolute role models. They are strong, passionate, accomplished while also being wholly aware of their emotions and of the people who helped them get there. Their willingness to show reverance for eachother and their family and friends is very admirable. They are MEN by all measurements and cry all the time. Love to see it. Great episode as well

This is too amazing as someone who grew up listening to Taylor Swift songs, at one point was blessed finding Lil Dicky content, and being a 92%er who has been loving this incredible journey starting with the Kelce bowl year. If I had to recommend a content rabbit hole: Lil Dicky Freestyle on Sway (think there are 2 actually), Molly (more emotionally charged song with great storytelling), if Molly hit a note then his show Dave is one of favorites (especially S1), then the next two would be Save Dat Money (mentioned eagles players dancing to it, but also an incredible piece of music and content as he showed how to make a viral music video with minimal money and a masterclass on cold calling) or Earth (project collaborating with everyone from Snoop to Bieber). Really incredible artist.

I have to say, I almost skipped this episode because I didn’t think I would have any interest in LD. I’m not necessarily in his demographic, but boy am I glad I decided to take my nose out of the air, and listen! What a fascinating guy!!! Really great! The episode went by so fast, and I wanted MORE!

I think that statement is true as far as “main stream” goes. I’m 35yo. I’ve heard Weird Al’s name a quite a few times.. seen him referenced in TV shows.. but I could not tell you a single song of his. If it was on I wouldn’t even know it was him. I think that as many fans as he does have.. it’s still a niche area he’s living in. So I do think he had a “good run” as far as his music reaching the main stream every day “average American” music fan at one point.

Dude, I just went and binged ‘Dave’ after watching the first 15min. I’m soooo glad you guys had him on bc I never even heard of it?! It’s hands down the funniest show I’ve ever watched. I went straight to HULU to introduce myself to Lil Dicky. Getting ready to spend quality time binge watching. I never heard his name before this podcast. What a treat episode 85 is!!! My favorite podcast. I wish it was around when I was married to an NFL fanatic, He couldn't explain the game so I could understand it. Just listening to various guest has taught me so much that I am amazed. It explains why so many women are fans of Jason and Trav, That and the fact that they're crying, macho, confident, really decent brothers.
