- Here’s a short video of my MTH Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 steaming up and pulling a 5-car excursion train. I hope to one day have the 12 UP excursion cars from the Big Boy 2021 tour that I can proudly run behind my favorite model.
Man this sure Is an MTH HO Scale Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 moment.
And that moment has been sold on eBay :(
@@michaelstrains4014 you monster.
@@highjumpstudios2384 I got a new one
Beautiful, fine detailed machine & sounds-smoke effects...Well done...Congrats!
Thanks! She's my favorite in the collection for sure, especially since I've seen the real UP 4014 in person.
Very wonderful "big boy" model, from my personal viewpoint the best ho scale big boy model is between BLI and MTH between the videos that I have seen.
Thanks, she’s my absolute favorite in the fleet. I was always torn between BLI and MTH. In my opinion, MTH is best in features and price, and BLI wins in terms of prototype accuracy and pulling power. MTH’s is still up there though, I managed to pull 110 cars with it on a somewhat hilly layout not too long ago.
Awesome video!
I'm a tram and I approve this video!!
Thanks for the approval!
Awesome 😎👍
Awesome 👏🏻
Cool
I have one of these but with the coal tender
My plan is to buy a coal version at some point since I sold this one off for the BLI version. Only thing is prices have gone through the roof on them now.
Awesome model! I do have 4014’s Brother, 4009 I got it time ago for Christmas. It is the pride of the my layout at home The ultimate one I want to get is 3985 is available, but oh man is it expensive! Do you have 3985 on your layout?
Not yet, I do want one at some point. But I’ve got 3980 in UP’s two-tone gray.
Nice very cool we’re did you buy it from?
Bought it new from TrainWorld in 2020 for about $540. Sadly these went out of production when MTH shrank their operations so if you want one you’ll have to patiently watch eBay and be prepared to spend a good chunk of cash.
@@michaelstrains4014 ok thanks for telling me
also i was looking on train world
one question WHERE DID YOU GET IT
Bought it new from TrainWorld in 2020. Sadly out of production now, so they’re becoming increasingly more rare, and I ended up selling mine after one of the boards in the boiler kept failing. They run for $550+ on eBay when they pop up.
Hi friend IM amrica 🥰😍😘😮
I know Ho big boys are expensive are they worth the price and also which is the best company to buy from?
It really depends. If you’re like me and the Big Boy is you absolute favorite steam locomotive of all time, then it’s one of those purchases where you’re willing to pay a high price to own one. If it’s not a must have, then paying $500+ might not be worth it for you.
As for who to buy from, it also depends on what you’re looking for. If you want just any Big Boy without breaking the bank then I would highly recommend the Rivarossi model. They are super reliable and easy to work on and customize. They will be releasing a new one this Christmas for $450 with sound and $350 DCC ready, admittedly that’s still pretty high. If you want a super high end Big Boy then I would say go for Broadway because theirs has sound, smoke, great details, and is made almost entirely from metal. Be prepared to pay almost $800 though.
If you specifically want the MTH version, I wish you luck in finding one, they’re all but impossible to find now since MTH ceased production of them.
where did you get your tracks?
I bought these from ModelTrainStuff.com, it’s Kato UniTrak sets HV1 and HV2. It was $160ish for both shipped to my front door.
@@michaelstrains4014 alrighty! thanks m8!
Where could I buy one of these?
If you’re looking for the MTH version, eBay is your best bet, but be prepared to pay a hefty price for it. I paid $565 for mine in 2020 right before MTH announced they were going out of business, and currently the only one I’ve seen recently (from that same run) is selling for $900.
That being said, ScaleTrains now owns MTH’s HO scale tooling and has plans to release the Big Boy under their name in the future. If you’re not willing to wait for them, Broadway Ltd and Rivarossi are both releasing Big Boys later this year. BLI’s has more features similar to MTH’s but Rivarossi’s is about $200 less I believe, you can check them out here:
www.trainworld.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=HO+Big+Boy+4014
I think trix also makes/made one of the big boys.
@@EISKAFFEEEISKAFFEE they do and they’re absolutely beautiful but they’ll set you back about $1000+. That and the decoders are severely out of date, they’ve been using the same sound file on them for the past 20ish years.
Are the carriages another separate kit?
Yes I purchased them separately from eBay. They are from Rivarossi and Con-Cor. MTH did offer the Big Boy with a four car passenger set but they’ve sadly gone out of business and their tooling has been sold to ScaleTrains.
@@michaelstrains4014 "Downsized" would be a better description of MTH's fate. They are in a smaller facility still putting out O gauge product, mostly limited-run custom stuff for their dealer network plus a smaller selection of regular-issue product from the tooling they still own. Atlas O now produces their O scale product (and models from the MTH tooling they bought) in MTH's overseas factory.
@@RailRide yeah downsized is a better term.
Where did you get this?
Bought it brand new from TrainWorld.com, sadly out of stock and production now.
@@michaelstrains4014 ok
@@TheArizonaRailfan they do have the new Paragon 4 Big Boys from BLI coming out soon, they’re quite expensive though
@@michaelstrains4014 yea I saw it on the website definitely expensive
Класс👍
Thanks :)
Up
Down...?
@@michaelstrains4014 no, up
Where can you buy these engines?
At this point, eBay is your best bet for MTH. Be prepared to pay a high price for it though, being out of production now they’ve become hot commodities. If you want a cheaper option Rivarossi is releasing a model of 4014 around Christmas but that one is still $350-$450.
@@michaelstrains4014 does rivarossi blow smoke too?
@@alabamarailfanningproducti139 No it does not, if you’re looking for smoke you’ll have to go with MTH or Broadway Limited. Again they’re pretty expensive though.
maga do train plzzzzzzzzzz da do
What
How much is it?
Depends on who’s selling and the condition of the model now, anywhere from $300-$600 on eBay. MTH sold off their HO tooling to ScaleTrains so these are sadly out of production now. Mine just burnt out its board for the third time and I sold it off. Kinda regret it considering these are going to be rare now.
@@michaelstrains4014 way too much for me..
