    Driven those 9000s during Saab's "Arctic Winter Drive" in Luleå on a frozen lake, we started with 7 factory cars and ended with just 4, two collided and one had drivetrain issues after crashing into an icewall. These cars took a beating but proved incredibly strong. In the end, these cars went back to the factory to end their lives as crash test vehicles, helping to make new models even safer.

    Astonishing that I hadn't seen this advertised at the time. It's a remarkable achievement. Average speeds! What top speeds were they reaching?

    • @worawatli8952
      @worawatli8952 Před 7 dny +1

      Average speed was 212kmh, just slightly below their top speed. When they were out on the track, it was full throttle to the max speed, average was lower because they had to do pit stops.

      I remember having one of these Saabs on test drive, getting in the car at 5am with the thermometer reading -29C. By the time I got to work at Helsinki-Vantaa airport it was -36C.
      Saab and Volvo knew how to make cars for harsh winter conditions.
