I was on the lighting crew for this video. It was shot as part of a music video class held by the CSU Summer Arts program in 1987 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. How cool to get to see a project I worked on years ago that I don't have a copy of. I believe it was the first music video Bobby McFarrin did. It was the next year that he went mainstream with "Don't Worry, Be Happy."
How can anybody with ears dislike this music? It's actually made by a person and not a machine. It's beautiful and dangerous because it opens our eyes to actual human potential. Turn off the radio and put in that tape or cd. Nothing compares to actual ingenuity and vocal range.
I don't care what ppl say about Bobby McFerrin. If i was incharge of deciding who's the best, he'll be on my top list of all singers..........i love your work and i'll love to meet you someday to tell you how much you've inspired me for the better.
I first heard his voice in an ad and food fell out of my mouth. Years later he called up members of the audience to sing in a chorus at one of his shows and I shot out of my seat like there was a jet pack in my ass. Fantastic talent, unique in every sense.
Excelent ! I follow your job since ten years. FABOLOUS MAN , Extraordinary man and the way like surreder to tlhe audience. Thanks for all your dedication and delivery for your fans and All the people.I koww and always when come friend to my house I show them your videos . Always amazings ! great music and very human ! @funkmasta34110 it wasn't learned, it was developed and sculpted. it was mostly used for communication between each other to talk of news, family, issues, plans of escape
Yes the video looks funny but like, are you joking? He jumps like two octaves in less than a second. He can basically jump your entire vocal range to sing a baseline for himself as he sings a melody at the same time. Like what? And you say this song is low maintenance?
On the off chance you see this, you've been my favorite vocalist for the last 35 years, and it isn't even close. God bless you and your family.
2:57 - 4 octaves like it's nothing. Jesus, I love this man.
Bobby McFerrin is the definition of a one man band.
Bobby McFerrin is such an enigma and a phenomena. I wish I could sing like this guy. I could listen to him sing for eons.

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!
a person like mcferrin who can sing with no tuning with mechanics, no instruments, and only by vocals is someone with pure talent
I first heard his voice in an ad and food fell out of my mouth. Years later he called up members of the audience to sing in a chorus at one of his shows and I shot out of my seat like there was a jet pack in my ass. Fantastic talent, unique in every sense.

Opportunity
Came to my door
When I was down
On my luck
In the shape
Of an old friend
With a plan
Guaranteed
Showed me the papers
As he walked me to the car
His shoes
Finest leather
He said
You could wear this style
Follow my advice
He owned a gun
The calibre escaped me
But I noticed
Straight away
It made me itch
Carried an address
With numbers on the back
And an L-shaped
Bar of iron
What's that for
I asked my man
With eyes opened
And the knowledge in my head
And he said
Opportunity
World wide adventure
Money in the bank
We did the job
The work was so well done
No one saw us coming
Much less leave
But what I dropped
Carried my credentials
And a black and white
Shot of you and me
What's that for
I asked the cop
With eyes opened
The knowledge in my head
And he said
Opportunity
World wide adventure
Let me take your hand
Let me take your hand
Opportunity
Came to my door
When I was down
On my luck
In the shape
Of an old friend
With a plan
Guaranteed

Imagine if he was still doing this kind of innovation today. He'd be the CZcams/Tick tock master
2:57 and I'm done.
I love you, Bobby!
Damn, what an awesome lick he did at 2:47!As a singer who loves to transcribe Bobby, i can tell you that is really hard to pull off!!
Where could we appreciate your work?
I agree! This is amazing!
Maestro!
ahh... this reminds me of the good old times last year in 5th grade gifted, when we had 2 get in groups and "remake" this song!
Greetings from Brazil!
2:55 love it!
Great work, maestro! Congratulations for this performance and thank you for your most amazing vocal music! :)
Feeling it, literally.
I can't get enough of 2:58 i keep playing that part over and over

Maestro Maestro ...... Eres genial ..... Excelente técnica de respiración.-
i like his smiley:)!!!! sooo cute
Genious!!
Being an only child, Bobby learned how to play with himself. Unlike for most of us, for Bobby this turned out to be a GOOD thing.
Wow!
amazing dude !!!! AMAZING !!
Love
What amazing talent.
amigo canta haciendo sonido con la boca es un capo este tipo
I think what he does with this song is maybe the best he has done ever.

So this where Childlish G. got his inspiration from for the T.I.A.💪 Legend.

Nigga music Fire asf
The one person who dislikes this does not have ears.
@colbystamp Yes most of his music is all done with his voice and his chest (which he taps and such). A true star
Inspiring
OMFG HELL YEAH I JUST REALIZED
2:33 sounds so nice when he goes deep.

Is childish Gambino got inspired by this vid?
Hey what kind of instruments do you play? My chest :D
irie yea mon
So not just the songs were low maintenance, the videos were as well.
lol
Wtf does that even mean, anni frid?
Yes the video looks funny but like, are you joking? He jumps like two octaves in less than a second. He can basically jump your entire vocal range to sing a baseline for himself as he sings a melody at the same time. Like what? And you say this song is low maintenance?
buttchicken 18 I didn't say it was low skill or taste. Its low maintenance cause its only his voice. Thats not a bad thing.
Because we're jelly.
Very nice comment! JAH Bless!
2:57 Was that 4 octaves??? What???
@indiano527 great comment! haha wish I could like more than once
@funkmasta34110 it's a gift. a white person never could sing like a black one. that's a fact. neither racism, nor positive segregation
Bobby mcferrin invented auto tune lol
but his technique sounds organic. I also heard native americans hitting on their throat while singing. autotune is just horrible.
