Props to Wilson for sending a full set. It makes for much better reviews than when companies send CZcamsrs just the 7 irons, or just a partial set.

4/13/2022 - Hello Sophie. I discovered your YT channel fairly recently and look forward to your reviews. I’m a 72 year old guy who is getting back into golf after a 5-year layoff due to an injury and 2 new hips. I am looking for more distance and still like decent looking irons vs the Game Improvement irons. Just had a fitting for new irons and tried the Callaway APEX, APEX DCB, Rogue ST Pro, Srixon ZX5, Mizuno Pro 225, Cobra Forged Tec and the Wilson D9 Forged. The 3 finalists were the Mizuno, Wilson, and Cobra. All 3 felt solid and came off the club head great. For me the Wilson launched lower than the other 2 and the Cobra was longer by about 5 yards. This Friday Cobra is coming out with their new version of the Forged Tec so am hitting the current version and the new version to see if the new version is significantly better. I will re-hit the Wilson as well. Really liked the look of that club and was pulling for it going into the fitting, but need to let the numbers and feel guide my final choice. Thanks again for your reviews. Your swing speed and ball striking is much more relatable than watching guys with 90+ mph 7 iron speeds.
4/30/2022 - Update - after my latest fitting! Well, hitting and comparing the Wilson to the Cobra one more time. The Wilson won - ended up comparable distance, but much better feel and softness, and tighter dispersion. Now the waiting begins for them to get here! I am super excited to put these in my bag. Now the search for a new driver, fairway irons and wedges. The only club I'm keeping is my putter.

Sophie, I switched out my Ping i500 and hit everything from Callaway, Mizuno, Srixon, Ping a few models in each and different shafts to try and get my spin and launch to match my delivery. I also hit both the D7 and D9 forged irons. For ME nothing felt better and was more consistent than the D7 forged. The Mizuno JPX forged and D9 Forged were second best for feel and consistency of strike, but my best strikes with those felt like my worst strikes with the D7 forged. I "settled" on the D7 forged and couldn't be happier. They were used but still in the plastic so the price was outstanding. I would like a thinner top line but when they feel as good and fly as consistent I can get used to it. I am still dialing in the distances but they will be in the bag for a LONG time.

My first “starter set” had Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge irons. In the mid 1960’s I bought a set of Staff X31 irons and played them until 2001 or so when I bought a set of Wilson Fat Shaft irons. I played the fat shafts until last year when I purchased a set of cast D9’s. One of my major golf regrets was selling my set, driver, 3, 4, and 5-wood of black Wilson Staff persimmon woods.

I bought Wilson D7 forged Irons just before the discontinued them. I have really enjoyed them. I’m relatively new to golf and my handicap has already dropped to 16.5.
They feel great, good distance and height and I like how they look. I suspect the D9 Forged is a incremental improvement.

Hi. I have always had a set of Wilsons in my bag, because they have always performed well for me and i like the fact that they don't have to advertise the fact that they are so good. My first set was the original fat shafts. I now have the D7's. I am looking to change them to the new D9 forged irons. People that have used Wilson Irons just know how good they are.

I´ve been playing a set of Wilson Staff Forged Progressive irons since 1994. Mid handicapper then and higher now in my old age. Recently began updating my wedge set with the Wilson Staff Model wedges just for fun. I´ve always gone for the feel of forged irons over pure distance. More overall fun for me. The Progressive irons are very highly lofted compared to modern clubs. I would certainly be interested in these new D9 irons if I was in the market now.

Have always been a Wilson Staff fan - gamed the C300 Forged. "Forged" doesn't mean forged like it used to, though (including in the C300 Forged). The D9 Forged have a forged piece of the club head (the face in this instance, though it's cast, first, and then a final shape forging). It does feel pretty good, though, and other OEMs have done something similar with this "category" of clubs, calling them "forged", though it's individual pieces which are forged and then assembled versus something like a Mizuno Pro 221. Great that they have figured out how to build-in some technology and "help" while retaining a decent sound/feel.

Great reiew: I also think Wilson makes great irons...I own a set of Wilson FG V6 forged irons I bought a few years ago and they stack up against my Hogan PTx Pro iron, in both price, looks and perforamce..They are one deg less loft but are a few yard farther, and I think that this is because of the TT Shaft over the KBS shaft...But I believe that after the FG V6 irons Wilson droped the ball with their limited custom build...And I don't like the half lofts in irons...Reminds me of a time Mr. Hogan asked his caddie, one of the few times I might add, What do you think, caddie said 145, or 146, Hogan said, which one, make up your mind...Wilson needed to get back to reality and make good clubs with lofts that are real...My FG V6 7 iron is a 35 loft, theses are 30.5....Looks great, priced great but, when I want to hit a 7 iron, I don't want it to be a 6 iron loft...Wilson I like but lofts and set lies I DON'T........

  • @waynethomasashbury3629

Current gamers are the C300 Forged. I play off a 16/17 currently. I had an old R7 almost blade-like set before that. I was quite nervous when I bought the C300 as I was told Forged was for better players, at the time I was a 21HC. I love these clubs and my game definitely improved. The feel on misfits using the C300 Forged let's you know. And my ball striking improved because of wanting that addictive feel on a good strike. Wilson is a great brand. Enjoyed your review of the D9 Forged.

The similar name ("D9" and "D9 Forged") causes confusion but these are 2 completely different club sets - the length, lie, loft, bounce, swing weight, metal, shape, size. The D9 (not forged) came out last year and is a larger, stronger lofted, non-forged game improvement iron. The D9 Forged just came out last week and is a forged, more expensive, players distance iron. PS - Sophie, love your content. Keep it up.

Could you do a review on the cheaper Wilson clubs Sets like the SGI for women ? I'm new to golf and I find it difficult to find cheaper still decent clubs for beginners

I like the looks of the D9. As a high handicap golfer I wonder if going to these from my Mizuno JPX 919 hot metals would be a regret. When I purchased the Mizunos several years ago, the fitter added 2 deg. loft and 2 deg. flat to the order. My 9 iron goes 105 - 110 and my 7 iron is only 130 - 135. My 6 iron, 145 - 150. What do you think, will the Wilson D9 help or just deplete my bank account ? I have always been curious about the better feel of a forged club.

I had wilson fat shaft irons 15 years ago but then due to a back injury stopped playing the sport. Looking to get back into the game with a new set and cant decide between these or the taylor made stealths. i use to be an 18 handicap

I had a lesson yesterday and my teaching pro is fitting these this season and said how good they are so I'm going to get a fitting and see what they're like as I'm looking to replace my Taylormade M3 irons this year as I feel like I no longer have enough clubhead speed to get the best out of them so think a set of players distance irons are on the cards (current whs index 11.1 age 65 7i 148 yds) should I get the gap wedge too as I have Ping glide 3.0 50, 55 and 60 degree wedges at the moment. Cheers Ade

They are forged so you could bend them to say a 32 degree 7 iron.
