This is criminally underviewed
Thanks Kyle! Spread the word! ;-)
We’re studying Mussorgsky in music at the moment... just trying to imagine how our teacher would react if she came into the room and this song was blaring through her speakers.
*that moment when your nonmetal friends hand you the aux cable*
Hahaha! Thanks Jess!
my teacher has just used the video in class
i could just see Mussorgsky giving this a wry smile and a tap o' the foot (Edit: i want to like this more than once.. it is so joyful & energetic!
Thank you!!
I was actually just searching for some clips of the old Baba Yaga films I watched as a kid on TV, and I found this. Not only was there lucky enough to be raised on Baba Yaga films, but I also grew up on metal. This was perhaps the most metal thing I've ever heard in my life, and it warmed my heart hearing the theme song done this way. 😁👍🏻
Aww, thanks Tre!
I always thought this song would fit perfectly into metal and you proved it right.
Awesome, guys!
Love how you added that part of The Great Gate of Kiev at the end
Yep, well Baba Yaga finishes with that long run of 16ths notes and goes straight into the Great Gate of Kiev, so I figured I might do that bit too ;-)
You can't not do it. It sounds incomplete without it :)
2 years after, still so fucking proud having been involved in this great project! So many many thanks to you Tom my friend!
Oh yeah indeed :-)
Damn well done Dam !
🐂💨💨💨💨💨
your playing is Amazing Dam !!
This is an excellent cover, but... what happened to the drummer's pants???
Stolen by Baba Yaga
To put on her House
Christian the sadly not first of his name good one I always thought the hut needed trousers 😂
He's wearing shorts.
I was there and I can tell you he's not. ;-)
Haha this is awesome!!! I love the Baba Yaga piece and always thought it was pretty metal. Excellent cover!
Indeed! Thanks for the comment!
I've just gotten into Mussorgsky recently. His tunes definitely warrant this type of treatment
I was considering searching for "Mussorgsky, Baba Yaga, metal" but decided that "Mussorgsky, metal" would most likely sufficient - and I was right :D
You guys rocked this! Keith would be impressed!!!!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Wow!!!! It's very wow
what's amazing is that they didn't change one note - proves it's heavy
Excellent styles hybridation, very funny editing and adaptation of this crazy Mussorgsky piece, well done !!
Thanks man!
A long time ago, the thrash metal band "Mekong delta'' made a cover of this piece of music
Chicken Legs...
Actually, the original name of this music is "Hut On Chickens' Legs" , not Baba Yaga. In Russian folklore the "Hut On Chickens' Legs" is the name of the house where Baba Yaga lives.
You don't need pants for the victory dance, and your interpretation was beautiful and on point!
thanks!
Please for the love of the gods do the ehtire version of both Baba Yaga abd Great Gate. I'd pay very good money to hear that
Mussorky Baba Yaga is my favorite piano piece and I love Metal, donno how to say you thank you guys for making this happen!
You're welcome, we had a lot of fun recording it!
You guys sound amazing
Why thank you, Adam!
Came here for the memories of Keith Emerson, left with an .mp3 that I'll be playing Monday morning on KNCE-FM. Well done, guys! P.S. Headphones work better when they're on your ears, not your eyes. Bass players! Whaddaya gonna do?
Haha thank you very much! I missed your show, what a shame!
outstanding
I heard a rif from the game "Catherine" and was like Nani the fuck
Different rendition, for sure. Nice!
INCREIBLE¡¡¡AMAZING¡¡¡ no es que sea un compositor facil Modest mussorgsky...y menos para pasarlo a metal....Buenisimos¡¡¡
Gracias! Me alegro que te haya gustado! ;-)
this is awesome, thanks for doing the tablature for this , the riffs are crushing , what a great bunch of musicians Cheers
I've so often wondered what Mussorgsky et al would have done had they had access to modern musical techniques...
This is the best version I have heard so far.
These guys are having fun while doing something GREAT. I am a great fun!
Thank you!
Kinda getting Deep Purple vibes from this. Great job! ❤🎵
Hahahahaha! Love it! This music lends itself well to this style.
:-)
Perfect.
great job guys, really brought it to life
Thanks Kelsey!
Эмерсон Лэйк ход Палмер тоже играли Мусоргского альбом ,,картинки с выставки,,!👍
I love it. I just listened to the Ravel orchestration and I love both the orchestral and the heavy metal versions. Please do more with those ancient scores; it might make classical music popular again.
played this piece whilst in orchestra... really phenomenal to see it played with metal :)
Thank you!
I've been listening to this pretty much once a week or more aince I found it around 8 months ago. It's freakin crazy dude this is awesome
Cool, thank you! You can download the track on Bandcamp: omashay.bandcamp.com/
Late to the party, but I enjoyed listening AND watching this, more than I expected to. Splendid cover and adaptation, guys. :D
Thanks!
Prémonitoires ces tableaux d'une exposition
Le rock'n'roll s'avère un vecteur adapté a ce véritable chef d'oeuvre
N'est-ce pas Dominique?
I've been around enough musicians to tell that this was arranged by the saxophonist/flautist
Haha! What made you think so?
@@omashayproject it was mostly a hunch but I think I connected the flute to the original orchestral sound of this piece. I think flautists are eccentric nerds, look at Peter Gabriel.
This arrangement is superb. I bet it was a lot of fun.
@@TheBeatlesRoooock It was! It must admit I am 99.99% saxophonist and only 0.01% flautist (I barely know how to go up and down the scales but that's what studio magic is :-D)
@@omashayproject well, I adore what you and your pals did here. I probably like it a bit better than Isao Tomita and even ELP. Do you have more videos of you playing sax? I'd love to hear what you'd recommend.
@@TheBeatlesRoooock You can check out my channel, there's a bit of everything ;-) I'll check out Isao Tomita, never heard of him!
Insane banger, when’s the whole piece drop 👀
This is truely the greatest thing I ever heard in my life, the original is cool, the animusic one is slightly better, but this is the real stuff, thanks for the amazing cover!
Thanks Christian! And I'm so sorry plenty of people were named the same as you before you were born :-D
Ambitious, but successful. Very nice.
That legendary ticking sound of cubase everyone know
amazing! 👍👍👍👍👍
Reminds me of the Emerson lake and Palmer/Animusic cover of this song.
That was so good!
Thanks!
Very Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!!
Great Cover!
Thanks!
¡Excelente versión! ¡Impresionante!
Gracias José!
Will not be putting my pants on for quite awhile (am going to bed after that!!) - CZcams vid discovery of the day. Over and out.
This is awesome!
@The Almighty Tarkus: I think the bass player ate them! ;-)
Это великолепно!
Спасибо ! ;-)
Огнище)))🔥🔥🔥
thanks for letting me know i can outdo this
For great justice, arranged by Omashay and Ralf Hubert (Mekong Delta). Very good performance.
Thanks Alex! It's true that Mekong Delta's performance is close, but I swear (believe me if you want), I did not know of it before we recorded this!
@@omashayproject Ok, i believe. Not only Ralf Hubert loves Musorgsky. ELP does that in 70th. Peace!
Bruh--kinda brilliant I think
I bet THIS is how Mussorgsky really envisioned it ^^
I'm sure he would have liked it :-)
I never seen a man eat so many chicken legs
Thats how it should be played
Oh yeah!
This is fucking amazing
Thanks man!
Nice one.......although some orchestral performances are actually more metal than this one.
Haha! Indeed
Here's the real Baba Yaga...
czcams.com/video/PqYOd8LQaVc/video.html
I believe Mussorgsky liked it, (I like it a lot)
They have been reports of Mussorgsky banging on his coffin every time this is played in the cemetery 😀
👁❤️ it
O M G ! ! ! ! !O M G !!!!!!!!
god please put this on spotify
I'm asking God too! 😄
No seriously if you want to listen to it check out my bandcamp!
Really wished you doubled your notes on that descending lick like the violins do
That would have been cool indeed. But I think my guitar player would have killed me :-D
Sounds like metal Soft Machine
Btw Mekong Delta Made a complete Album about mussorgskys night on a bald mountain
I Like ur Version very much, thank you
This is not Baba Yaga, but a glamorous girl. A real Baba Yaga should be mad, eat children, fly agarics and not miss young men.
Let the witch fly!
awesome! \m/
Thank you!
My new theme song
I'm very flattered! ;-) Thank you!
Tom Haydock I’m actually doing the song with my orchestra right now, and this is just what this song was intended to be
cooooooooollll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111
Sounds like a Pokémon boss battle ost
Haha! Maybe we should try applying ;-)
Ррррроооццк!
They sound like Genesis or Gentle Giant at 3:35.
or ELP just kidding
And like KC for most of the rest of it... it's almost like prog took a lot from classical in the first place eh?
This makes me think that Modest Mussorgsky and Ron Jarzombek are genetically related somehow.
My only complaint is you should have done the entirity of Great Gate. Could have used ELP's lyrix and mixed up different lines for variety.
Check the Mekong Delta Version
Genial!!!!
Gracias!
Ummmm... 3:22 is Great Gate of Kiev, not Baba Yaga...
Sorry, 3:32
You're absolutely right! But since the original Baba Yaga goes straight into the Gate of Kiev after that crazy chromatic run I couldn't stop there... I decided to shorten the "Gate" part because the original is mostly the same melody & chords but with different instrumentations, which I couldn't do here. I hope you liked it!
nice
danke schön!
Came for the killer arrangement, stayed for the bonkers video 😂
Thanks!!
Buen cover! :D
Muchas thank yous! ;-)
Fantastic rendition, funny edition. LOW!!!
Thanks Nelson!
@@omashayproject :)
que bueno
Gracias!
uh yeah, very interesting and well put into "metal"...but strangely enough Mussorgsky had more doom in it ;P
Mekong Delta...
Mekong Delta version?
Yep, heard it before we recorded this. Decided to record our version anyway because we thought we could do at least as good as them! ;-)
1.25 speed
At first I was FURIOUS because Mekong Delta is my all time favorite band and I thought you just ripped it off with no credit. Then I read the comments and you claim to not have known about it so......only 50% mad I guess? Just kinda sad now
I assure you that is 100% true!! ;-) Why be sad though?
@@omashayproject That cover is actually one of their most "popular" works, and a youtube video that resembles it is as popular as that. Just kinda depressing to realise the scale of things. Great work tho
ELP got 'er done in heavy overdriven fashion with 3 people live without overdubs.
с 01:23 - просто охуенно (но не работает без всей дорожки! (а может и работает))
Not entirely unlike King Crimson :)
King Crimson did a version of this? Didn't you mean Emerson, Lake and Palmer?
No, I just meant it SOUNDS not entirely unlike Kind Crimson. :) The ELP version is great, though! :)
Orchestral version sounds heavier.
Love them chicken legs.
With metal sauce ;-)
