Bro thank you very much for this video, you rock. Lots of good detail here, helpful.
I got one of these from Goodwill. I was able to install the latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon with no issues. I swapped out the ram for an 8gb stick and schucked a Samsung 870 Evo 512gb and slotted it in. Secured with a zip tie. It's a little oversized but fits and seems to work well. Nice little machine. To fix ACPI shutdown just add noefi in the appropriate spot in grub.conf and upgrade grub. Doesn't seem like a straightforward way to update the bios without a programmer so that's my next challenge.
Thanks for the review. I am not sure what the youtube video play performance on this box? Can it play with 720P resolution?
Hi. do you know is it possible to install Home Assistant Operating System on it? Does this device support UEFI boot?
Mine says when I try to boot from the Ventroy usb "Not a secure boot Platform 14"
i just grabbed a few of these as raspberry pi replacements.
How well has RasberryOS working out on your thinclient? I've been looking at these as an alternative to run Klipper for 3d printers.
RaspberryOS is just debian with extra stuff that you do not need for anything else than a RPi
Does it have Wake on Lan and Virtualization capabilities?
good info thanks sir
how i can install Linux Mint Xfce Edition from USB pendrive? Only show GRUB with command line. Only Debian can start from USB, the other distros don't. Thanks.
You Need to disable Secure boot, and then disable UEFI bootloader, set it to Legacy it's quite a bit hidden in the bios ;-) but i'm running Linux Mint 20.3 on the ThinClient now ;-)
Thanks man!
For the life of me I can't find secure boot where did you find it
@@devilsreject3913 i can't capture the bios screen yet. have to wait for my hdmi capture. Then i would upload a tiny movie about it. on CZcams
is this with a 5010 system ??? or a different version/model as looks like its a lot easier on the 5070 version just after a bit of confirmation thanks
@@patricknewman1840 Yep. The DELL Wyse Dx0D aka 5010 🙂
Did the terminal powered off completely? Mine stays powered on hanging on reboot: power off message.
Also I figured out how to install dell ThinOS or SUSE. All you need to do is first prepare usb for image pulling. Then you need to find thinOS/suse image inside one of bugfix files (open any and click on previous version, you eventually find the base system image). It may happen that dell installer won't work with image if originally device have other system. Mine was delivered with ThinOS and I want install suse. So, I changed master key in XML file of suse on usb to match master key from thinOS and it works just fine. I also removed bios entry from seuse to prevent flashing bios. You may try not removing bios entry, but it can brick your device (as far as I know windows devices has twice as much bios memory as linux version).
Mine too not power off.... U found solutions ?
What usb stick are you using ?-- I got a huge exclamation mark near it and can't boot out of it
Ok so after re-flashing the BIOS I am now able to boot from whatever device I like.

Can it upgrade to 8GB of Ram? I just grab one of this for dirt cheap to thinker with it But seems like 2GB is not enough for me.
Update I installed 8 GB of RAM and it worked fine. But I can't get Linux to install as GRUB always failed. But if I take SSD out and install Linux to it then put SSD back in Wyse it worked fine.
What worked for me:
Flashed the bios with CH341, the grub worked.
I think it wan an issue with the NVRAM, it needed to be reset.
Banged my head for 2 days fml
I've just installed linux Mint on it
will it run windows 10
I didn't know quickr still exists😳
Very Interesting Machine. Noticed that it has open pads for an SFP / GBIC port instead of RJ45. Wich on itself is weird. I really wanna find one who has SFP populated :D
"But not as crazy." 😀
I was able to successfully install and run Debian ***NON-FREE*** on a Dell Wyse 5010 Dx0D. I downloaded MATTE desktop only with the install. This was after several trials of various distros. It is likely that there is a missing driver that prevents the GUI/Desktop environment from running. In other distros I was getting a blank screen that was preventing me from entering login information.
Ah, thank you so much for commenting this. I'm attempting to install debian and have been running into the same problem, I'll give this a shot.
what kind of SSD for this model, bro?
I have a teamgroup 1tb that’s a half board, their 2tb is a full board. You need to disassemble a 2.5” drive and pull the board out of it. You need to cover the stand off that the original flash drive mounted to or you risk shorting out your replacement SSD.
Dang! single slot for ram is a serious deal breaker...i was expecting a dual slot on this one so i can atleast beef it up to a min of 16gigs
They can only take 8gb of ram, as far as I know. Not that these need anymore than that due to them only having low power dual or quad core CPUs. This particular dual core is only clocked at 1.4ghz. 8gb of ram is more than enough.
Grub fails, banging my head.
Tried over 10+ times
Did You managed to fix it?
hey men any update? @Harshit Ahuja
@@damian.5925 yep, flashed the bios again with ch341, it made the nvram clear, installed ubuntu successfully after that
@@harshitahuja6211 how to flash the BIOS? newbie here...
@@din_ayam there's a tool called CH341, look it up
