- The gunman accused of fatally shooting seven and wounding over 30 people at a Highland Park Fourth of July parade wore a disguise and blended into the crowd he fired upon before he fled the scene and was eventually caught by police. Additionally, police had two prior contacts with him in 2019 - one where they removed 16 knives, a dagger and a sword from his home.

I read there was an assault weapon ban in place for Illinois since 2013. If this is true how did he made that purchase? He would have had buy it before that ban at the age of 11 or 12 and you know that would have never happened. What the hell is going on, this world is going absolutely berserk this is every single day I remember the morning of the 4th of July family members and friends are asking me what should we do and I said stay home after the school shooting in uvalde close to my home, I don't want to celebrate 4th of July ,celebrate a country that allows people to still purchase firearms with prior. Everyday we walk out the door taking a chance nowadays it's not just taking a chance it's a reality that you're probably not going to come back because you don't know what's going to happen at the mall the store, random sidewalk, rage driver, and as a parent and parents in the world were concerned for our kids to go back to school.

They (like many) have a $2M legislation bill and a $2.00 enforcement budget. This isn't brain surgery. The approval process needs citizen involvement in order to have a system that does at least a meaningful amount of screening. Then build from there. @@richardgreen7811 my Montana concealed weapon permit (no longer required...we went Constitutional carry last year) came with a required two day long NRA basic pistol safety class, and a full Sheriff/FBI background check (the last guy who had a cleaner criminal record than me ended up nailed to a cross!) And required triple I.D, fingerprints and photo taken. How would you improve that system? By having an FBI agent do a sleepover/pillow fight with every applicant? Don't make it gun or need intensive, make it mental intensive and provide training for the Reviewers. The pillow fight ... NO. 1st problem: Based on his uncle's interview, his family sees nothing wrong with an unemployed 20 year old spending all his time fantasizing about being a youtube rapper while purchasing an assortment of firearms and creating graffiti of creatures with rifle in hand on the side of the house. All of this after he threatened the lives of others and his own. So the controversial "Red Flag" laws would have been useless here. 2nd problem: The laws in effect, specifically the "Background Check" failed to do what is was designed to do. There is no additional laws that would prevent this. The law that exists is sufficient but it was not enforced. And he was enabled if his family whom he lived with knew he possessed those firearms after what he had already done.

It's interesting that in addition to the Background Check which is federal law and applies all states, each individual state has their own firearms laws in addition. For example in my state CA there is no FOID card or sponsorship required. However the police incident report would be recorded and be sufficient to flag him and he would have lost his right to purchase based on the nature of the incident. Mental health evaluation would be offered, but whether or not he declined he would be in the system and fail any future background check.
As a law abiding firearm owner and 2nd ammendment supporter, first I want to express my condolences to all who lost loved ones. Then to the full recovery of all injured by this sick sad excuse of the human kind. I have to say I believe I am more disgusted by this evil behavior happening daily in the land. No, the death penalty was done away with when after the advent of DNA testing, it was revealed how many innocent people had been convicted and sentenced to death. While I agree with the sentiment behind the death penalty, our justice system has proven itself to not be accurate enough to be entrusted with life or death decisions.

The only gun control law I've ever seen that actually works was only the 2nd amendment in the bill of human rights. During that Virginia gun rights protest against their governor who supported murdering children who had already been born, governor northam cowered I'm fear calling them violent extremists. When in reality it was probably among the most peaceful protest ive ever seen in my lifetime. No one got hurt. Their was no mass shooters, there was less trash on the ground after they left than before they showed up. Even the counter protestors didn't get violent, and their counter protest failed. Everyone went home in one piece after a great time, and the governor ended up being removed. How did the virgina gun rights protest go so much better than the Christmas parade plowing and the 4th of July parade? Well it's simple, literally everyone was armed to the teeth with everything from pistols, rifles, sniper rifles, anti-material .50bmg sniper rifles. No one got shot, no one got hurt.
Another example of how *not enforcring* gun laws doesn't work.
We need a public option for healthcare that doesn't require dozens of difference insurance companies to go through or months of applying to medicaid etc. We need to invest in mental health now and stop pretending this is going to solve itself.
