In late 2014 Brett Ross took the hunting community by storm, but he is not a professional or successful trophy hunter. He is a hunter who harvested one of the largest deer ever taken. As far as we know, Ross is one of the few meat hunters to ever become famous, and Colorado's deer is what got him there.
Colorado’s Deer tells the story behind the giant buck and the unlikely hunter who shot him. The film follows Brett Ross, a meat hunter from Colorado who went out on a hunt for cow elk with a mule deer tag in his pocket and came back as a local hero with a story he will tell for the rest of his life.

Couldn't ask for a better way to have it play out. Humble hunter (veteran no less) on the family's stompin' grounds enjoying time well spent together doing something they love. Picture perfect if you ask me! Brett, you must've been doing something right! :D Perhaps God was repaying you for your service to country. I thank you for that.
What makes this one of the better stories I've heard is that this monster goes to a humble guy, group, and family, who all love God. This one felt really authentic. Great job!
Really nice to see a super buck that was taken by an average joe in real fare chase conditions.
I get so tired of all these other videos where there is way more bragging about some rich guy that paid big money to be led by the hand to a deer that was raised under controlled conditions and camped over for days until opening day when the hunter is literally led by the hand and pointed to the buck that has never been hunted before.
Wow I'm lost for words, not selling it shows what sort of man you are.
Brett is a stand-up person! And one of the nicest guys around.
goHUNT absolute legend
I would never sell that deer if I shot it either
If anything have a replica made and sell it to the guy. I'd say you made the right choice keeping the deer. Congrats!
Loved this story!! Genuine down to earth hunter that shot a worldclass animal and was so modest about it! Much respect from Australia
What a magnificent mule deer harvested by a humble man. Great that you've hunting that area for generations and the stars aligned. Much more enjoyable than the stories of the wealthy hunters who are guided in, deer having been watched for years by multiple guides, whereas these so called "hunters", IMO, are merely trigger people.
Magnificent buck man. "Cinderella Story " I hope that rack don't disappear at midnight and your buck doesn't turn into a doe. Congrats. What a great hunt.
awesome story. congrats. and thanks for your service to our country
Brett is an amazing guy!
Amazing buck! Awesome story! Unforgettable! Congratulations!
That deer was straight from Gods private stock, how many true mule deer hunts dream of seeing a monster like that, what a blessing
One MAGNIFICENT buck. I congratulate you. Honoring the Lord yields huge dividends. You've much to be thankful for. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. WELL DONE!
I actually got to meet Levi and Brett at a friends wedding a couple years ago and these guys are genuine dudes. Brett was so burned out of this story by that time, we ended up talking about all the small deer and other hunting experiences we've had through our lives over whiskey and just BS'd. Definitely fun guys to talk to
So cool! Really happy for him😃 Fantastic story
LOVED the Video, LOVED blessing the food & LOVED the Humility!!!! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
would be one of the best stories I've heard if I could hear it.good Job dude
I so love this! This is true hunting by guys who love what it's all about. More than the animal it's part and parcel of who we are.
Awesome story! Couldn't be happier for ya!
Fantastic!!!! Congratulations....
amazing deer thanks for sharing
Hadn’t seen it the year before? Anything like it in your life? That’s a great story!
What an incredible monster buck very impressive congratulations sir
Wonderful brother!
Great story and world class deer
OMG! 294 is ridiculous! So nice to see an average guy shoot a great deer! Now that is a once in a life time deer! Thanks for showing this! Great job guys! What County was it shot in?
@Bill Carlson absolutely perfect response
I'm not a trophy hunter but I am picky when it comes to shooting bucks...I dont shoot any mule deer smaller than a mature 3x3 just becuz I like to see them grow and mature ....some day i hope to get lucky and come across a buck of my life time...
What dreams are made of !! Good things happen to good people!!
Couldn't happen better to a hunter that is just a hometown average joe...congratulations..💸 or 🏚 ???
awsome buck
I remember reading this story in the paper here in Colorado. Amazing buck! But I can't believe he skull caped it, no shoulder mount?? That would have been a beautiful mount.
Such an amazing story for sure. He did end up getting a shoulder mount done. He had it mounted on an old whiskey type barrel if we remember right.
Know where I could see a pic? Sounds like a great mount.
darrylstaxidermy.wordpress.com Never mind I found the pic here. Beautiful mount. Scroll down on the first page.
Thanks for grabbing that! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Thank you! I hope you did too :)
Congrats and thanks for your service. Looks like it couldn’t have happened to a better guy.
Great story... That's was a monster pig.. great nite time story.. well done..
Thank you!!
Great deer. Beautiful buck. Congrats all day long to the hunter. The record books...read them sometime and tell me bragging isn't a big part of it.
What a bad ass buck and a great story you could offer me two million dollars for that rack and I would never sell it
Nice TOAD! WHAT A MONSTER!! GOOD FOR YOU...
Photoshopped!! 😂🤣. Just playing what a stud!!!!
Incredible. Seems like it couldn't have happened to better dude
Great guy, salt of the earth.
Very impressive 👍
JO JO IN VT 💕 😊
Damn
My family is from grand junction..I've been in that taxidermy shop..😊
That's a great area!
Gotta love home! GM
It’s absolutely wonderful that a meat hunter shot that buck.
Well, how'd he taste?
Not me thats a keeper
200K aint that much any more
Cant believe you cut the head! 😨
👍🏼
I would have sold it in a second for 200k. The memories and pictures would be plenty enough keepsake for me!
Well opinions vary!
Sell replicas 20x’s over and make way more.
Buck of a Lifetime
The Lord put you in the right place at the right time, a blessing of a lifetime.
Maybe 200 and an exact replica. Maybe.
Wayne Holliday fuck that.. I had a dude that was supposedly “the best of the best” do a set of replicas on one of my bucks, and he charged best of the best prices.. didn’t look like my buck at all!!
they really should have taken samples and done cloning or bred does from this buck to help improve other populations around the country .
How dare ya
Make a replica and sell them. They seemed so bummed about the score though. Wtf
Joe Monko because everyone said 300. They weren’t bummed at all!!! Everyone just said 300 soo much that it was almost expected. Regardless, they still acknowledged that it was a once in a life time buck and that it was beyond giant.
If it's legal to sell I might have to really think about it for $200,000, LOL!!!!
"They'd get in trouble"......for what? Bringing it to the wrong taxidermist?
We are meat hunters!...everybody is wearing their tv show gear*
nets for fish
Sweet Rack
Who would have sold the rack for the $200,000?
You can get a copy made for x amount and sell the originals.
I'm honestly not sure what I would do if offered that money, but deep down I'd want to say no. I was offered $50k once, but that was to be on the show "Wife Swap". Declined!
what did it gross nets are for fishes haha
Stop killing it is stupid some people make fun of killing animals and still full of themself. There is a karma for them
City kid
I shot this buck!
200,000 would of Ben sold fast as hell. That’s what pictures are for
Lol
Really nice to see a horn hunter take this one out, make $1,000s off CZcams on the way! Future generations will never enjoy this ever AGAIN
Pray and swill beer.you being a vet,ya should know how to remove your hat indoors.
