No, Kirk cousins got what he wanted more than anything, money. He didn't want a championship, just money. And he got paid. And he will forever be remembered as the most over paid QB in history.

Cousins was gone one way or another. When the Vikings chose to not give Kirk another lucrative extension, (the loss to the Giants may have figured into the decision.) That was the beginning of the end for Cousins in MN. When he was hired in 2022, Mensahs job was to cut spending on unviable veteran contracts and rebuild the roster. And the biggest unviable veteran contract belonged to the starting QB. if Cousins was looking for guaranteed money to his liking, then he made the right choice in going to Atlanta. And the Vikings can finally move towards finalizing the rebuild of the roster.

Cousins played great in that game against the Giants. It was the highest rated game for any quarterback throughout the entire playoffs that season. Cousins average playoff game has been better than Tom Brady's average playoff game even though he was sacked more than 3 times as often. He has put up Hall of Fame numbers with poor offensive lines and mostly poor defenses.

Kirk did the wrong thing for himself, but the right thing for the vikings. Actually, ATL did the right thing for MN twice over. They took kirks massive contract off MN's hands, AND they passed on McCarthy, the best qb in the draft to take penix. So really, ATL big upp'ed MN skol

Nothing in Kirk's performances backs that up AT ALL!!
      #1 his win-loss record certainly isn't mediocre.
#2 in his last full season in 2022, his peers voted him as the 6th best quarterback in the NFL (NFL top 100 2023)
#3 And he was playing like a top 10 quarterback in 2022.
#4 In 2023, before he got hurt, he was tied for 1st in touchdowns, 1st in pass attempts, 1st in pass completions, 2nd in passing yards, 3rd in QB rating, and 5th in completion percentage.....top 5 quarterback…. that is a top 5 quarterback, btw.
#5 Mediocre quarterbacks don't lead their team to the greatest comeback (33 points) in NFL history.
#6 Mediocre quarterbacks also don't lead their team to a 13-4 season with a 28th ranked run game and a 31st ranked defense.
#7 Mediocre quarterbacks ALSO don’t lead the league in game winning drives (eight) and 4th quarter comebacks (eight) which is tied with Stafford’s record.
#8 Kirk’s career passer rating is 98.2. which is the 8th highest passer rating in NFL history…..in NFL history. He’s 5th all-time in completion percentage. His passing yards per game also ranks 10th all-time in the history of the NFL.

NO! As a Vikings fan Kirk cousins made the perfect decision. Thank you Kirk cousins. Won us absolutely nothing in your time here. Lost all big games and didn’t really show out until KOC stepped through the door. Until then he was mediocre. Go check it out. I watched every game. He takes a million sacks and turns the ball over in huge times of the game and gets the team down huge by halftime and need a miracle to come back and win. And he is a check down specialist. For no other reason other than he’s scared to throw it in tight windows. . Did I miss anything? He’s your problem now Atlanta. The fans will see what I’m talking about by week 6 they’ll be screaming for Penix

If you don't get resigned as a QB it's because you didn't perform. Nobody's looking at rookie QBs if they have a half way decent QB.

From a money standpoint Cousins made a great decision. What was Atlanta thinking? If you are going to mortgage your future to win now, why take Pennix? They should have grabbed a great defender or a WR to help win now. Atlanta has 2 years to win before they are stuck with a old Cousins or a huge cap hit. Throw in Pennix was the oldest QB in the draft and the last guy you want to sit for 2 years.

Kirk’s decision to leave the Vikings came well before Seifert’s article /2023 season. If the Vikings truly wanted to keep Kirk, the new Vikings GM would have signed him to a long term deal in 2022 instead of him signing a one year deal. Even after his 2022 performance (13-4 season and making the playoffs) and a restructured contract, it was pretty clear that the Vikings GM wanted his own quarterback.
Why wouldn’t you draft a player that you really liked instead of taking a chance that someone else would take him?
Kirk was the Falcon’s top veteran choice. According to Albert Breer, “Inside Kirk Cousins’ Departure from Minnesota and His Arrival in Atlanta,….To run the offense Morris and Fontenot envisioned-they needed a QB who could be an effective distributor and throw with accuracy and anticipation. So, the ideal fit was a QB like Brees, who Fontenot and Pace had grown up with as young Saints personnel. Those in the Shanahan tree who were with Cousins in Washington, long felt Cousins, under the right circumstances, could be a QB who’d mirror Brees in a lot of ways."
Penix playing well in the pre-season really doesn’t mean anything. He’s playing against back-ups who are trying to make the roster and the practice squad. As long as Kirk is playing well, Penix won’t be seeing the field.

If you rank qbs as follows : let's make believe out of the 32 teams out there , you're dropping said qb on a team where they rank #19 or #20 at every facet then kirk cousins has been a top 10 qb since 2021 .That was first year he had oc back to back years( kubiak) and it was cousins team ( not zimmers).
He was no longer " happy feet" cousins . He stood in there , got creamed until last moment and delivered an accurate ball down field.
This is why kirk so popular teammates - Shanahan tree- gruden tree - whomever. Back foot health ( 100%) only hedge -worry.
Right now , penix jr may have a cannon for arm but at 6 foot 1, injury history and alot of fundamental work for a 24 going on 25 year old rookie ....idk.
Heineke right now should be #2 on depth chart . Vikings do everything backwards. When jefferson went down in kc game , cousins looked elite for 3.5 games ...... and without a running game.
We'll see how all this shakes out . NFC wide open. The broncos were ready to make cousins " a creative " offer and I just don't see anything happening on that front. The raiders were the sneaky team who didn't have a chance as kirk was signed 45 minutes after free agency clock. Davante was pining for him. Geez, him - meyers and those 2 tight ends , raiders make playoffs and maybe win a game. There offense, however, goes absolutely nuts with a healthy cousins.
The falcons defense falls right and who knows . I see a power shift in NFC .
