  • In this video we take a look at building a OHLE catenary gantry kit. This kit is part of a mix & match range of OHLE gantries which include lattice head span, lattice head span expansion, ladder masts, lattice masts, castellated head span & castellated head span expansion. Can be found here:

You can see a more in depth step by step guide to the assembly of these kits here in the railwaymodellers.com club:

It does look good when complete. Impressive. It takes quite a bit of work to get there, however. I worry about track cleaning with the catenary above the track. It is the modern way. Rob

Many thanks, Rob. I usually use my Dapol track cleaning wagon or Track magic on the sponge tool. Just a case of being careful whilst cleaning. Kind regards, Iain.

Hi Iain, very good job, i've also mast and catenay in stock for my layout since two years, but for the moment , i'm not ready to install them. ( Ref Kato 5-051 , 5-052 and 5-053 ) . Kinds regard, Gérard.

Hi Gérard, I'm on last bit of installing catenary now on the layout. Look forward to seeing the Kato catenary being installed on your layout :-) Kind regards, Iain.

If you've decided on catenary, then hopefully you ve already decided that you have to have a system for cleaning track under your catenary!!!

Yes already have a cleaning system in place, as a good part of the layout has had catenary on for the past year or so. Just completed this past month with the installation of it.

Hello again, maybe you can help ?, I'd like to add a protection cage or caging mesh around my 00 colour light signals (sides and back), would you know or know someone who does know what gauge of brass sheet with the very tiny squares do I need to have for this?, I'm trying to make mine look from the 70's onwards, don't know what it's called or where to get it?, many thanks my friend, kind regards, Chris.

Hi Chris, have a look at the Scalemodelscenery.co.uk LX210-OO Modern Trackside Walkway/Grating. It can be adapted as the protection grilles for the signals. I've used them for the signal grilles on my layout. Many thanks, Iain.

What a beautiful looking product. How long does it take you to assemble 1 mast ?
    Cheers Iain, David.

Many thanks David. If your building it the double track span 10 to 12 mins at the most. Goes together very quickly. Use Deluxe Materials Roket card glue as it has a fast setting time. The beauty of this system that it can span any thing from a single track up to as many as you want, Kind regards, iain.

Keeping you busy then is Iain ... not the easiest projectb

Deffo keeping busy David. Very easy to assemble are these gantries. The difficult bit is making sure the contact wire stays within the center line on the curves to maintain contact with the pantographs. All good fun.
