I guess I have always thought of this method (enemies running at you) as Onslaught Style games. Waves and Waves of increasing difficulty enemies.
Honestly, that would be super nice if Steam used the term to sort out all those games, cause they kinda clog the "danmaku" tab for a while now. Then again, I doubt that many fans of that original genre are around...?

If you didnt know, the "chancla" is basically a traditional wooden sandal that in spanish/south american culture is FEARED by young ones because it's traditionally the weapon of choice of an angry mother :)

Ironically, the 2011 game "Bullet Heaven" by Matt "matt-likes-swords" Roszak is a bullet hell.
I wonder if he'll play it if someone sends it to him? Halfway tempted to do it myself.
A lot of the other games that are called "bullet heavens" are also actually bullet hells, just with more destructible, weirdly shaped enemy "bullets".

Bullet heaven is such a good idea, the way I see it is bullet hell is you avoiding the bullets, and bullet hell is you creating the bullets if that makes sense. These games let you make tons of projectiles.
If you want another Rogue-like farming game, more of a bullet hell, and a bit before the bullet heaven craze, check out Atomicrops!

all the references to different south american cultures makes it for me

Another fun bullet heaven that's worth checking out during the nextfest is the upcoming DRG spinoff. Although it's not the game I wished it was def some of the most fun I've had with a bullet heaven besides brotato. Can't wait for Rogue Core

Synergy, then upgrade for me. Filling out slots to fill them is pointless, but I'm not passing up a good skill.

If you’re ever looking into a game that’s kind of like this but also more farming like look up a game called Atomicrops it’s amazing. I think he would absolutely love it. It’s cute and amazing and just dumb to play.
Yup! I own it and have made a video or two but it was a long time ago and I didn’t care for it… definitely one I gotta replay in the future

Don‘t like bullet heaven as genre title. I call those games a „Survivor-like“.
I mean vampire survivors was most likely not the first with this concept but it was the one which made it popular so IMO it deserves to be part of the genre title.

The term bullet heaven is stupid. it requires you to know the term bullet hell otherwise you dont have any clue what it means. Reto calls those hord survival which for me fits much better. you know what getting into.

I dont say people dont know it. But. Other genres are selfexplanatory and this name isnt.
I’m sitting here questioning how anyone can enjoy metrovania style games more than bullet heavens. I’m so bloody bored of side scrollers that I’d rather play nothing than one. Bullet heavens being relatively new to the scene provide a refreshing gameplay loop/ mechanics. Plus upgrading weapons to be bigger, stronger and cooler looking is fun.
“Meta progression” is just a fucking skill tree. It’s nothing new. I don’t get the disdain for them. Does he not like RPG’s either?
Correct yeah I don’t like RPGs either. But most RPGs at least provide some different content overtime. These games tend to just be the same thing over and over with poor game design
