May I plant the seed of an idea for a series of podcasts sometime in the future?
It's a global phenomenon that the electorate has short memories when it comes to political lies and deviance, South Africa is no different.
The historical scandals under each president have been legion, but the ANC are in power now and appear to be intent on forcing us to the event horizon.
A suggestion would be to do an in-depth look at each major scandal since 1994, the perpetrators, the repercussions, or lack thereof. Where the perpetrators were removed and reappointed with little to no consequences and the estimated cost to the country due to the damage they caused.
Alternatively, it could be a catalogue of Phractocephalus droppings under each president from Mandela onwards.
I was watching a CZcams video of Thabo Mbeki responding to points raised by Julius Malema. The comments were full of gushing statements about Mbeki being the greatest president in SA history, his stature and wisdom.
They are correct if one agrees that the bar has been set so low that a draft can't get underneath it, but they seem to have forgotten the multiple scandals under his watch, the crimes against humanity with his aids denialism, proping up of Mugabe while he savaged his nation, the arms deal, Penwell Maduna, Manto and the firing of Routledge, Nkosi Johnson, Coleman Andrews, crime denial, aloof, autocratic, and not without a smell of corruption.
He should be swinging on the gallows for the premature deaths of an estimated 350,000 people. Now he is lauded with many wishing that he comes back to save us.
