    Thanks for this! I’m struggling with sleep training with my baby’s nap too… with so many sleep training methods out there I felt like something just didn’t feel right. I love how you prayed to God and help you make peace with the right decision you make for your baby. Such a great reminder to ask for wisdom from our Lord. And also you picked her up to console her. This was something that I wasn’t sure I should do with so many sleep training methods were against it. Glad this worked out for you and your baby! :)

    You're a legend ! We followed this and last night our baby went to sleep , self soothing herself and happy . She is more playful through the day and sleeping so much better . Your technique was straight from the heart for your child , teaching them a new skill but also understanding their comfort and need from us as parents . The 'cry out technique ' was too scary for us to even attempt so we are glad we found your video instead 😃🙏

    Girl! Your intro was so spot on. For me and my husband we were battling really bad reflux and formula intolerances so our baby got completely used to sleeping on us. She's 8 months adjusted age and it's painfully obvious that it's time to sleep train her. We just aren't sleeping well - either of us. She's flailing and whining every night. I'm hopeful that we can finally get her bottles consolidated so she doesn't need anymore night feedings and we can start soon.
    Your part about not being able to be a good wife hit me in the feels.
    Oh... And I gave up my job to take care of her full time for exactly that. Western culture is so work first. We don't really put family first.

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před 2 lety +1

      I just posted an update version you should check out! But omg YES girl, my daughter was the same way flailing etc. like even when she was in our bed she would not go to sleep there were soo many night where I was literally just like I don’t even know what to do cocomelon it is.. that was the only thing that would settle her down and just sit in the bed with us. She would watch it for hours content but I hated it because obviously that’s not healthy to do every night and not sleep 😭 so I feel you mama, better days are ahead!
      & the last thing you said - spot on - and because that is so - it makes finding a community of other mamas (in person and not just via online) hard.

  • @jasminewilliams3757
    @jasminewilliams3757 Před 2 lety

    We’re definitely at the point of how we’re doing things just isn’t working for us anymore. Like it’s such an ordeal every nap time and I can’t get anything done during the day and it’s honestly stressing me out and making me dread the days and I don’t want to feel like that about being with her during the day. I just wasn’t sure what that would look like from a cosleeping standpoint because that’s a big no no in todays society like you said so no one ever really talks about that. But I like the idea of doing it gradually and still bringing her in the bed as needed. I’ve recently noticed her being more discontented at night like you mentioned and I honestly just think it’s time. Thanks for making me feel more at peace about it

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! I know that feeling all too well. Check out my latest video on our sleep training update now that my daughter is older.. I honestly should have done it way sooner but I actually look forward to bedtime and naps now because its soooooo easy and she goes down so well with no crying or resisting. I thank God for where we are at now! & Yes, I loved co-sleeping, until i didn't.. and I think the time frame for that is different for every co-sleeping parent and society doesn't agree much with that and thats okay. I know people who still cosleep with their 2 year olds happily and I think if thats what they like to do and if it works for them then great! Continue you know? haha. For us, I knew it was time to make a change when neither me or my daughter were getting good sleep and I would become SO aggravated during the night and the next day I would just be so tired all the time. I didn't want to feel that aggravation towards her but at the same time I wasn't quite ready to do what needed to be done to transition her to her own room full night. Does that make sense? Anyways, I finally got to the point of realizing it was best for everyone and I'm so glad we are successfully all getting good nights sleep most nights. Idk why I felt to write all this but hopefully you are making some progress in the sleep department with your little one

We share a room so he seeing me but I don’t pick him up he even cried once to where he threw up his food bc he kept on crying and I felt awful but he eventually goes to sleep and I will continue to put him in the bed and he cry but I kno im doing great

    This is really good to hear! Going through this with my 8 month old. We’ve tried “sleep training” sporadically the past several months but it never really worked. Naps and night time sleep are becoming such a struggle. He always nursed to sleep but lately doesn’t want to all the time so now it’s like shoot what do we do lol. I get so pissed so something needs to change. He doesn’t take a pacifier so I’m hoping without that it will still work to do this. I don’t like the idea of “sleep training” but a modified version will hopefully help him ❤

      The French are big proponents of Cry It Out, so proud their babies sleep all night at 7-8 weeks! I'm still not sure if I believe it, but my gosh, I couldn't. Could not let a baby that young "cry it out". There are so many voices coming at Mommys, saying what must be done. But at the end of the day? Trust your gut. Don’t feel guilty anymore for not going according to the “norm”. My lil girl slept very well in her crib while swaddled until she was 4months and started turning and then that’s where I got conflicted 😐. She could only get a good night sleep in bed with me, so we’ve been co-sleeping and she’s going to be 6 months next week Wednesday. I’ve been trying to keep her in her crib but I just always pick her up when she doesn’t fall asleep and keeps crying.
    Now I’m so pumped up to try out your method. Hoping for excellent results and the will & courage to not be so eager to carry her up or put her in my bed when she’s crying 🙏🏼

      @JanaeCrawford  Před 3 lety

      No, occasionally I would start leaking all over the place if it’s been like 7 hr stretch but personally I never felt so engorged that it hurt which I’m grateful for. She still wakes up to eat in the night so my boobs are usually never that full. I also don’t have an oversupply at all so I’m sure that impacts it. I take supplements to help keep my milk supply up in the night for her to eat, if I didn’t, there wouldn’t be much milk for her during the night - weird I know, but I learned that a few months ago. She would wake up to eat and nothing would come out and she would cry and cry. When I started taking supplements that problem was solved - thankfully.

  • @mollyloveland1943
    @mollyloveland1943 Před rokem

    When you are doing the minute increments do you wait till they stop crying before you leave or do you pick them up sooth them and still put them back down crying and come back in a few minutes?

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před rokem

      the goal is to reassure them and ideally calm them down a bit but oftentimes they just want you to stay in there with them (obviously lol) so they either don’t calm down or they start screaming right when you put them down but either way, calm or still crying, you just leave.
      I recently sleep trained my daughter (currently 12 months old) and I didn’t pick her up out of her crib unless she had a poopy diaper I needed to change (because that happens sometimes when sleep training that no one talks about lol) but other than that I just give her like a snuggle hug in her crib (her standing) for like 15 seconds then try to lay her down (she usually just stood back up and started crying) but I would still leave and not prolong it.
      I’ve made some updated sleep training videos and tips and things I’ve learned along the way that have really helped that are up on my channel that you could watch. They are under the “sleep training” playlist on my channel ☺️

    Loved this video! So you found that it worked well while room sharing? Every sleep training program that I have looked at says they HAVE to be in their own room for it to work. But I don't think I'm ready for my baby to be in his own room yet 😩. We currently bed share, which is a love-hate situation. I want flexibility to be able to hold him for a nap if I WANT to, or let him sleep in our bed if I WANT to. But right now, like you said, I hold him for every nap all day long and can't get anything done!

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před rokem

      That was exactly me, yes! Long term, this did end up not working for us. But it did work well for some time and it was great. I eventually transitioned her to her own room and sleep trained her properly - but it wasn’t until I was absolutely ready and at my end like “this has to happen” lol. Honestly, That’s my biggest tip for sleep training to work because if the parent isn’t ready - you’ll eventually end up caving and messing the whole process up (trust me, I’m talking from personal experience) but when you are ready to have them in their own room and comfortable doing so / have a strong reason why it “has” to happen, no matter how hard it gets you will have to stay the course still and thus it’ll work. Does that make sense?

      Hi 👋🏽 this was a few years ago so honestly I forget 🫣 however I currently have a 12 month old and she has been napping around 10am and 2pm but it fluctuates depending on what time she wakes up. This morning for example she woke up earlier than usual (5am) so she napped at 9am -10:20 am then again at 1:30ish. The general rule of thumb to follow is your baby’s sleepy cues that will tell you a lot and let you know you should probably start getting them ready for a nap soon. I hope this helps ❤️

    My daughter is 18 months now and I am pregnant with my second. My daughter was a very good sleeper when she was newborn till 16 months. She never wake up at night till I feed her. She sleep straight 12 hours at night. So now I decided to wean her off breast and she was waking up multiple times at night which was not something she used to it. So I decided not rocking her on the rocking chair but sit with her in my bed because we co sleep till she was born. It took me few weeks till she stop waking up at night and sleep well as she used be. She Was so attached to my breast she never sleep without it. But now I stop feeding her in the day, only she takes nap 1 so I feed her that time for few mins. Than she sleep for 2hrs or more. And before bed time. Than I cut the feeding of the nap time. Slowly bedtime feed. But she do wake up at night multiple times and cry for breast. And my breast got dry as I am 26.4 weeks pregnant. So I didn’t say no to her anytime she ask me but distracted her for other things and it works. Now
    She don’t even ask me for breast not nap time, no bed time or even wake up at night for breast. Even if she wake up she just make crying sound and say mama she go back to sleep on her on witching 5 seconds. And we sleep straight 11 and more hours at night till morning. Woww didn’t believe even this can happen. I did try to put her in her crib but she never agreed so I didn’t want to force her. So I changed her schedule which help me this process. She sleep nap 1 from 12:30 to 2 or 2:30 and I wake her up and she sleep at night 8:30 or 8:45 till morning 7 or 7:40 without night wake up. Thanks to god I was struggling to train her to sleep without breast but it get easier for me. Now we are happy. But I also want to work her to sleep on her own with out I put her on my lap pray for me mamas 🥰

    Any ideas when the baby refuses a paci/bobo?? My husband and I are going to start sleep training our 8 month old and your video helped so much to get us in the right mind set. Everything is similar- baby's crib is in our room, but baby has been co sleeping and he has not been wanting to sleep in his crib. He wakes up and will only fall back asleep if I nurse him next to me in bed. Last night he was up like every hour or less!! It's super exhausting and I know we need to start sleep training. He was taking a paci until around 2 months ago. We are not sure why he won't take the paci anymore but hopefully he will find something to help self soothe during sleep training. Maybe his thumb??

    What were you dressing her in? And what temp is your house at night usually? We are struggling not to use a blanket with our 8 month old overnight while he sleeps on his own, can’t afford a sleepsack, and onesies don’t seem to be enough or they make him too hot :/ we keep it 68 otherwise it’s too stuffy in our room. Help!

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před 2 lety

      I used to dress her in a long sleeve onesie , pants & a sleep sack. Or a footed zip up sleep n play with a sleep sack. I realized over the months (she is now 1.5 years old) that when her room got too cold she would and will always wake up. It used to drop at night but I’ve since changed our thermostat not to decrease temp at night. She sleeps most comfortably and soundly if it’s actually a bit warmer. I’m usually sweating but ide rather sweat and have my baby sleep all night than have her wake up every night 🥲 I stopped putting her in a sleep sack around 10 months I believe & just made sure to always have socks on her or a footed sleep n play & started putting a blanket on her when she was around 18 months - I didn’t feel comfortable doing so before that. I noticed the warmer she was the better she would sleep and not wake up. If her room is any colder than 69 she will guaranteed wake up cold. Her room is the coldest room of the house but I try to make sure it never drops below 69. 70-72 she seems most comfortable though. If your baby doesn’t have a blanket or sleep sack like you mentioned, then I would personally try dressing him in warm clothing - like a fleece sleep n play - and maybe turn the heat up to 69/70 and get a humidifier and see if that helps.

      If I can remember correctly (it’s been a while lol) but when you google “baby wake window for x months” she typically started showing sleepy cues 15-30 minutes PRIOR to the recommended window for her first nap and usually as the day went on for her next naps they were usually spot on within the time frame but sometimes on the longer side even 15-30 minutes past. • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před 2 lety +1

      Of course ❤️ and I would say the fact that we room shared made sleep training at night difficult since she could literally see us laying in bed 2 feet away from her crib you know so I just didn’t feel right having her literally see me right there and not tend to her. It’s confusing for her too. For naps it was much easier because it was during the day so of course I would just leave the room as if she was in her own room space. Does that make sense?

    So I have a question Idk if I missed in the video I tried to watch it when my baby was taking her short nap, so I know each month has a awake window since your baby was taking that long to fall asleep how long where were you letting the awake window to be ? I mean I feel if I let her that long maybe is going to cross to be overtired? Idk first time mom here and I think the same way as you so I just want to try a better method with her

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před rokem

      Honestly just paying close attention to her sleepy cues is HUGE. Every baby is different so for example say at 7-8 months the average wake window is 2.5-3 hours in the morning after baby wakes up until their first nap, today (for example) my daughter went for a nap slightly earlier than 2.5 hours - but then come afternoon she has a longer wake window. It’s all about watching your baby’s sleepy cues and if you can- start putting them for a nap right then by doing your normal nap time routine. It’s important they don’t get overtired - even missing their sleepy cues and trying to put them for a nap 10 minutes past when they first started showing sleepy signs could be too late and now they are overtired and fight the nap longer or don’t nap at all. Trust me, this happens to me a lot so I know from experience lol

      Hi mama 👋🏽 not sure if I understand the question. Are you wondering what time I would put her to bed at night?

      Hii! Sorry, mmhh like when would you put her down? Is it like a few mins before she’s supposed to sleep or right when she shows cues?

      Ohh okay so I would keep track of the time but more importantly look for sleepy cues since all babies are different. Often times I would find that she got sleepy like 30 minutes prior to when she was “supposed to” and if I waited she actually got overtired and didn’t sleep go to sleep well and fought it more so I would recommend keep in mind the wake window times but also sleepy cues. You don’t want them to get overtired so it’d very important.

    I too don't believe in what modern society says...I'm still co-sleeping my 3 month old and I personally love when she falls asleep on my chest.❤🥺

      I love that! I didn't mention it in the video, but my plan was actually to co sleep until around a year old because it eased my anxiety at night since she was right next to me I felt she was safer and we both got a better night sleep- until we didn't - hence why I made this video lol but its crazy because I was not expecting that change. Whenever someone talks about co sleeping its usually in a positive light (which like I said, it WAS at first) but I never heard much about what me and Sage have experienced. But yes I too LOVE that feeling :) even now I sometimes just hold her a little while longer before placing her in her crib, snuggling :) they grow up so quickly

      @@JanaeCrawford they grow up way too fast😢❣, thank you so much for making a video on this topic I'm planning on also creating my own twist to sleep training once my little girl is 6 months old

    Hahahahah.this lady started with "I don't believe in sleep training" and then proceeded to give all the reasons people end up needing to sleep train🤣🤣🤣we would all love to just cuddle our baby forever but it's not realistic

      I think more specifically she didn’t believe in the ‘militant-style’ hardcore ‘there’s only one way’ scheduled approach, and so she adapted it, and that’s what she’s getting at.
      and believe it or not, I’ve met (a few) who managed to co-sleep and cuddle as long as their child wanted (don’t ask me how, but they did) it’s not realistic for everyone, especially if you have to go to work or have other kids, but some manage to pull it off

    Struggling momma here 😅
    When you would pick her up, for how long did you consoled her?

    • @JanaeCrawford
      @JanaeCrawford  Před rokem

      I picked her up for quite too long, as I learned, no more than a minute it ideal. I’ve made updated videos that I think you would find helpful. They are all in my “sleep training” playlist on my CZcams channel ❤️
