    Hey Nathan! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Captains. We're so glad to hear that you are enjoying your boots. Just wanted to make a few comments - our boots are not oil resistant or waterproof. They provide a great grip but you will still need to be careful on super-slippery surfaces. The Goodyear Welt does make them water-resistant and it is excellent at keeping your feet dry in wet conditions. It will take a few wears to break-in but once they break-in you won't want to take them off :) Looking forward to your next video. We hope you continue enjoying your boots!

      Thank you for watching! I've been very pleased with my first two pairs of boots and will probably be purchasing more in the future. Waterproof vs water resistant is absolutely a key difference as anyone who has worn boots in slush all day can attest. As for the soles being oil/shock resistant, it does say that under one of the blog sections of your site. Perhaps its outdated? Hope this helps!

      Well technically they can't say they're waterproof since they're not sealed. They're very water resistant like you said. I've taken mine hiking through puddles up to the bottom eyelets with no issues!

    I just got my first pair of Thursday boots. I wanted a dressier boot and went with the wingtip. I was amazed of how comfortable they are out of the box. Comparing them with my pair of Iron Rangers which breaking them was brutal I think Thursday's inner lining materials are a blessing. Great video.

      Thanks for watching! The Iron Rangers truly are an absolute pain to break in but they do last quite a long time. Thursdays bridge the gap for people who would want to get into quality leather boots but would be turned off by both the price and the break-in. Glad you like your pair!!

  • @blobofjam

    Great video and I agree that for people looking for their first pair of boots you can't really go wrong with captains.
    Having owned Thursday's for a long time, I can confirm what you say in regards to general wear.
    The break-in on Thursday's was for me almost instant and I did basically wear the boots every day for 2 years. If you wear the boots frequently, you will find that over time they do lose comfort and I also found the sole wore down relatively quick.
    Recently I did replace my Thursdays with a pair of Vibergs, break-in for the Vibergs is horrific and very painful, but when they are broken in I would say they are better suited to daily wear as they have thicker leather and mould to your foot better.
    As an introductory boot, Thursdays are a good value option.

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  Před 4 lety

      Absolutely! The rugged leather they use with this pair isn't as comfortable as the cxl they use in others. Its very very easy to clean however. As for the break-in on vibergs I totally get that! I wear a pair of iron rangers every day to work and the first 4 months were horrible! They are very comfortable now and I've found I can stand on concrete for hours without issue while others are in pain by the end of the day.

    I love the way the Captains look. I purchased a pair of Classic Black Captains 2 weeks ago as my first pair of TBC boots and I loved them so much I ended up getting the Arizona Adobe and I received it yesterday and the AA are super nice like yours. There is a slight difference between the two boots. The AA is a bit more snug and has a much more padded forefoot than the first pair of Captains I have purchased and wore everyday for those 2 weeks. Nice boots in general.

      Interesting. I have two pairs of Thursday Vanguards. One I bought around 2 years ago. The second pair I got as a factory second off ebay. The crazy thing is that the factory seconds must have been from an older design because they don’t use the thin black lining leather. The lining looks like a 1-2oz piece of the exterior leather. They are more comfortable and don’t get as sweaty imo.

      Honestly I'd definitely recommend Marks boots or Redwings. They're both very durable. I should note that if you're super slim like me and/or wear skinny jeans both of those boots will look kind of odd imo. The redwings have too big of a toe cap to look good with skinnys and the Mark Alberts have a heel profile that's pretty wide (which I love for stability and comfort) and they look disproportionate with skinny jeans. That's part of the reason why I've been experimenting with quality slim/classic fit pants like Roarks hwy 133, the proof rovers from Huckleberry, and bulletprufe denims pants. I should have reviews of them up sometime before Christmas!

    Question for anyone who’s bought a pair of Thursday Captains: the Thursday website says to order a half size down from your sneaker size; however, the sizing of my Iron Rangers makes me unsure about that advice. In sneakers I’m a 10.5, but in my Iron Rangers I’m an 8.5-two sizes down . So, going by the Thursday website’s advice, I’d order a size 10 Captain, but that would mean a big difference in the sizing between Iron Rangers and Captains (which could be true, I don’t know). I asked Thursday and they suggested that I stick with my Iron Ranger size of 8.5, so they’re suggesting that I ignore the advice about dropping a half size given on their website. Thursday was quick with a response to me and they were super friendly, so that’s awesome, but before I order a pair, I wanted to hear from some regular folks who have worn the boots. So, does anyone have any useful info on this? Should I go a half size down from my sneaker size, like the Thursday site suggests, or should I stick to my Iron Ranger size of 8.5 ? Thanks a lot, cheers. (sorry for the long message)

      If anyone has some info please comment! Lets help this guy out! Personally I have the captains in 9.5 and iron rangers in 9. Now I think the Captains run a little narrow and probably could have gotten a 10 and they may have fit just a little better. Kind of hard to say as the 9.5 fit decently well. As for the iron rangers I probably could wear them in 8.5 but I have 9 as they’re my work boots and I always have thick wool socks on. Hope this helps!

    Hi, is it a serious problem if the stitching on the bottom of the soles wears and tears? Will the sole came off of that happens? I've seen it in many cases that the stitching of goodyear-welted boots tears

    • @NathanKnepper
      @NathanKnepper  Před 3 lety

      Actually that pretty common! Look up a diagram of how goodyear welted boots are stitched. There's actually two stitches. One on the inside and one on the outside. The outside one just holds the welt (the strip of leather around the edge) to the top of the rubber sole piece. It's a seal. The stitch on the inside is what holds the whole thing together along with any glue that might have been used in the process. I have a pair of iron rangers I wear when I work on anything mechanical, welding, cutting fire wood, etc and the welt stitch is worn through. As a result the leather strip is peeled up a little on the sides, which makes it a little less waterproof but structurally it's perfectly fine!
