Thanks, John, I used to love setting up work on the face plate for some reason. Just to bore a hole out that would only take 5 minutes and 1 hour to set up sometimes. lol
Hi John, Thank you for making these videos. Interesting stuff as always. Im yet to use a face plate. My face plate is still a blank plate (no mounting holes) What would be the best layout for the plate? Radial holes, increasing in number as i go out or a grid style? Also Holes or slots? Seen both designs but whats the most useful and safest in your opinion. Really want to keep my plate nice and good. Not holes when and wherever needed. Regards, Paul
Very interesting video John. Just wondering when and if you would do a job like this on the milling machine? Is it a case of finding a small enough boring head?
The good old face plate... found in the bottom of every lathe covered in rust :)
Thanks John
Enjoying the education! Thanks.
Yes, the video is really appreciated. It widens the fantasy as well as it tells "how to" in several aspects.
Great video John. I made a few special T nuts for my faceplate which spread the clamping load on the back of the faceplate casting slots.
Nice one.
Great video John, keep'um coming #1.

Good stuff John. These back to basics videos are great . I like the ten minute format , short but to the point.
Question John: At you 9:40 did you say a 'Q' plate? I am not sure, thanks!
John what lube do you use for drilling and tapping?
Was thinking his original speed was a little ambitious for a 29mm drill.... 😂
