Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers encounter passion and tragedy in Kenneth MacMillan's 20th-century ballet masterpiece, screened live around the world and on BP Big Screens on 11 June 2019. Subscribe to our channel and find encore screenings near you www.roh.org.uk/showings/romeo...
Deborah MacMillan, Matthew Ball, Yasmine Naghdi and Gary Avis discuss their experience of rehearsing and performing in this dramatic and tragic ballet.
Kenneth MacMillan's passionate choreography for Romeo and Juliet shows The Royal Ballet at its dramatic finest. Sergey Prokofiev's iconic score provides the basis for the ballet's romantic pas de deux and vibrant crowd scenes, while 16th-century Verona is created by Nicholas Georgiadis's magnificent designs.
In 1965, MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet was given its premiere at Covent Garden by The Royal Ballet and was an immediate success: the first night was met with rapturous applause, which lasted for 40 minutes, and an incredible 43 curtain calls. The title roles were danced by Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, although the ballet had been created on Christopher Gable and Lynn Seymour. It has been performed by The Royal Ballet more than four hundred times since, as well as touring the world, and has become a true classic of the 20th-century ballet repertory. - Zábava

YASMINE AND MATTHEW ! ! ! One of the most beautiful couples
Drejc Derganc absolutely!! A Hollywood movie couldn‘t be more intense...
YEPAROONIE!
They look like if Robert Pattinson fell in love with Anna Kendrick instead of KStew, lol.

I had not heard of Yasmine Naghdi before, but she was fabulous in this production, she is my favourite at the moment.
The moral of the story: Learn CPR and don't drink poison.
🤣. My sister always hated this story.
What is CPR?

My wee daughter and me were lucky to see Matthew dance his first Romeo a few years ago, and to meet his lovely family. Great to see him again.
Was lucky to see it two times at the ROH. Absolutely loved it!
I saw this tonight, local screening. Yasmine and Matthew are beautiful. This is my favourite ballet, but this performance was the best I have ever seen - totally drawn in. Does anyone know where I can by the DVD?
This is the best! I also would love to purchase a DVD.
I think there is one now on the roh website with these two!
I love MacMillan's production of Romeo and Juliet. Jasmin and Matthew will be wonderful in this, Sarah Lamb and Steven will be excellent also. I hope we get to see these performances on DVD, or You Tube. It's a perfect production.
Omygod matthew is freaking gorgeous
12/06/2019 ... I felt so fortunate to have watched the perfprmance transmitted by satellite to our local cinema here in Sitges, Barcelona last night!
You could hear a pin drop in the cinema! - What was being projected was so unutterably BEAUTIFUL.
- At the outset, just the colours and costumes told us what we were in for!
- But I had no idea what we we going to experience.
The truth is, there is no language ANYWHERE to explain what it was we saw!
BEAUTY totally overcame the pride and vanity of VIRTUOSITY in every single respect - I cannot explain it any better, and I was left, unashamedly in tears!
- This was the TRAGEDY and TRIUMPH of LOVE as I have never before ever seen portrayed!
The delicacy of natural understatement and lightness was SUPERB!!!
B+R+A+V+O to all concerned at Covent Garden!!!
- And Shakespeare knew a thing or two in writing this play!, for sure!!
Matthew Ball is such a good actor!
And the fact he is downright beautiful has nothing to do with it. -:)
1:12 Yuhui!!! LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!
The music of the Balcony Pas de Deux is absolutely glorious! The choreography is also brilliant.
My absolute favourite ballet score, so the brilliant dancing is a huge bonus.
I have just got back from watching it. Absolutely fantastic. X
Dance is truly amazing! Dancers paint beautiful narratives with their bodies in silence! As a musician though, I also couldn't help but notice the music!!! This is beautiful.
Please please please upload the whole performance or at least more clips from the version performed on 11th June 2019💓💓 it was breathtaking I loved it😍😍
Our cinema in Spain had technical problems and we could not see it :( I hope they will upload it..
jasmine and matthew einfach wunderbar !!! was für eine entwicklung von fonteyn, nurejew bis heute..... ! love them !
The absolution best production of Romeo and Juliet I have ever seen. It is a treasure!
I was watching the performance at Gimle cinema Tuesday evening. Beautiful peerformance.

I really love Romeo and Juliet and I wish I could go and watch!
Superare la mia Alessandra Ferri non di può. Ma questa tagazza Jasmine e Matthew Ball con lei, balla in modo meraviglioso ed è espressiva al massimo!!! EXCELLENT ‼️🥰
That expression 😍😍😍😍
Unforgettable
The only dislike is a person that hates Romeo and Juliet.
I'm going to see this Ballet at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven at the end of the month
the greatest love story of all time
Hermosa obra de balet me encanta sus actores lo hacen muy realistas, juntos se ven muy bien, hojala hagan papeles semilares sería un éxito para ambos el público los quiere éxitos chicos 🎊 🤞 👍 👍
This ballet ❤️
Eu amo isso demais 🤧
I am desperate to see it. I don't live anywhere near the screenings and could not get tickets. Have only seen Romeo and Juliet performed once before when I was a child - that performance featured Nureyev so not too shabby, but would love to see it again.
I am hoping that this gets uploaded 🙏, this 11 June performance. Unfortunately, the Cinema this was showing at here is hours away so was unable to go 😔 (Canada is a pretty large Country) So please upload or release "this" cast version on Opus Arte DVD 🤗 - definitely one for the collection - 🙏🏻
Altas habilidades, consciência corporal.

Talent and commitment

Encore Ballet Thanks💗
Am I the only one, the guy looks like Edward Cullen
"Pas de duh"
I have concept with this look in kathak
4:27 sounds like that youtube ad
Ok
These dancers, the Royal Ballet, don't have to be told to express emotion! Unlike the rehearsals of the English National Ballet, where the director is so frustrated that they have the technique but don't understand you must convey feeling, too! Where is Mayara Magri?
:V
I lovd this. Matthew is amazing and Yasmine is literally beautiful. But...
Romeo and Juliet didn't actually love each other. Huge misconception of the story. This is just me being a book nerd I have no problems with this ballet whatsoever.
Lisa Gray can you explain the part about the two not loving each other? Really interested 😊
Why is anyone but a Principle being allowed anywhere near this leading role?
I don‘t understand 🤔😳
