    I think the fact they govern their prices based on how much they themselves would pay for a suit speaks to their honesty. Rather than charging as much as they COULD receive, they charge as much as they WOULD pay themselves. Besides the absolutely beautiful product they deliver, on top of being absolutely hysterical and wonderful to watch, their honest and humility is astounding.

    • @nihiles1098
      @nihiles1098 Před rokem +4

      Well... if anything they should price based on how much things cost + the profit margin. It can be difficult to figure out because not only do you need to figure the labor hours for each employee and materials, but you also need to figure out the overhead. The overhead being utiltities, taxes or rent, and insurance. You can figure how much it costs to run the place per hour not including employees. Then on top of that they can understandably charge a 20% margin or much more for the level of quality and experience. So I believe that they are undercharging by a huge amount. I don't know how it works in England, but in the US you can take an employee's wage and double it, then thats the amount that they actually cost the company. So if you're making 15 an hour, your company is probably paying another 15 in taxes and workers comp insurance. Those experienced tailors probably make at least $40 an hour and very possibly overall spend 200 labor hours or more on the everything done in this video. 80*200= $16,000 not including overhead or profit. So I wonder if they're really making any money or what. Thank you for reading my Ted Talk

      @@gwr4funthis is exactly what I was going to say. It doesn’t matter if they are selling them for what they would want to pay, the facts are those suits cost many, many times more than 99.9% of people on earth can afford. The price of goods rises with inflation, not wages. Wages slow trickle up. I mean minimum wage is still 7.25. I have a feeling even a minimum wage worker could’ve had a cheaper suit made bespoke back in the day. Nowadays it’s literally not possible. Maybe m2m but definitely not bespoke. People don’t habe 3-6k to spend on a suit.

    Fantastic suits, but just some observations that I can see:
    1. Kirby likes to show some cuff, but both suits still have rather long sleeves.
    2. The first blue tweed suit has some shoulder divots on both arms.
    3. The second grey suit has incorrect sleeve pitch on the right sleeve - it looks too far “forward”, so when his arm is resting, creases appear.
    Not sure if Kirby or other viewers agree with me here?

    • @brucer6239

      This is an astute pick-up. I went back to the video and agree. Kirby engages fine tailors, but I have to wonder whether he may not be profiling the best tailors because they do not need the advertising and are not willing to exchange suits for Kirby’s advertising. In NYC, Kirby goes to Eric Jensen, but he is no Leonard Logsdail. On other videos, he has said that he has not heard of Tiefenbrun or Genuardi, which I find difficult to believe. It is more likely that those two tailors, who have been featured in the NYT, GQ, and other high-profile publications are not keen to barter their services for advertising on Kirby’s channel. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of KA, but people should realize that he is always monetizing his channel, which is the American (especially Texan) way!

      @@brucer6239 Maybe but i think he has said in the past that he pays for the suits. They would probably give him a decent discount i suppose but i find it hard to believe that they value segments on a fairly "obscure" (And i dont say that to downplay the channel, but he does not even have 1 million subs) at over £10 000.. I think its a combination of him working with tailors who are willing to have the whole process documented on camera, who can reap benefits of appearing on camera, and would be willing to work with Kirby on that!
      For example, there is no way that Henry Poole as a prominent Savile Row tailor needs the advertisement that Kirby brings to the table, but on the other hand, Purdey Guns was obivously chosen because they were willing to lend the firearms to Kirby in exchange for that video, as opposed to going to perhaps the most well known hunting shotgun maker in the world, Holland & Holland!
      I think its a combination of Kirby sometimes getting discounts, him being able to probably write off parts of the garments on his taxes and so forth!

    • @brucer6239
      @brucer6239 Před rokem +3

      Well stated Raymond, your comments re: discounted cost is more precise and, in fact, is what I was driving at. Early on, Kirby had a great deal of content featuring Allen Edmonds (AE)shoes and he was very clear that he was not getting anything other than access to their product for his videos and that all shoes were returned to AE. Contrast that with the more recent content featuring Carmina shoes. I have no problem with Kirby cutting deals with tailors, shoe makers, cigar merchants, gun manufacturers, etc. I congratulate his entrepreneurial spirit and there is much to learn from his channel’s content. I was just commenting that channel watchers should understand that there is a financial element to all of his interviews and product placements and, therefore, it is not without some degree of bias. Caveat Emptor!

    When I was stationed in Britain in the early 80’s, in 82-83’ before I rotated back to my next base in the US, I commissioned two jackets with a matching color reversible vest and 2 pairs of pants. After I rotated back, I wrote back and ordered two more pairs of linen slacks to go with the jackets. I bought my shirts from also. I wore them until I couldn’t. I do not remember who did them now but they were a well known London tailor . Worth every penny. Cheers
