    I adore vets and their profession. Among the best humans on this planet. I wish I'd have the emotional and mental strenght to take care of our furry friends as a vet but honestly I would buckle in a day.
    Fair play to them all for being so awesome and being so caring and devoted. ♥️☘️

    Wonderful video, Dr. I am in my 2nd year of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Medicine Program. I've been working in animal science and vet med on and off for almost a dozen years now, including the 4 years in undergrad and the 2 years just now I'm vet med school. You're right that it's not just the schooling that makes a good vet- it takes a lot of on-site learning and practice. For all those considering vet med: stay strong and keep at it, but be very conscious of your limits. This career will push you.

    It’s so hard to find an honest and truly caring vet, i have been to multiple places and it seems like they are all after the money. They try to sell unnecessary treatments or tests which 90% of the time are pointless and they know exactly what is wrong with your dog before the fact. They just upsell to the max or else they would make no money.

    How does your second opinion visits work? Do you do them via video chat or will it need to be in person? Also, do you have a video about when to know it is time to put your cat to sleep? I’m sorry for asking so many questions. I know you are very busy Dr. Uri. Have a wonderful day or night… depending on when you read this message. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

      You can get hands-on training as a vet tech, in a vet's office.

    • @kaworunagisa4009
      @kaworunagisa4009 Před rokem +1

      Depends on where you're from tbh. In Central Asia (and all Post-Soviet countries I suppose) you only need 4 years for a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or 6 including Masters if you're aiming for a prestigious clinic), then you'll spend a couple years at the bottom of the proverbial career totem pole (technically a vet but mostly doing vet nurse duties), and that's it. The quality of education sucks though.

    • @donnabaardsen5372
      @donnabaardsen5372 Před rokem

      @@kaworunagisa4009 She already stated she doesn't want to do that, take so much time. So hands on, on the job training as a vet tech takes far less time.

    • @HelpfulVancouverVet
      @HelpfulVancouverVet  Před rokem +3

      Vet tech is a great career option. Techs are in high demand and will be for at least the next decade, it's only 2 years of college and you get to do most the fun parts of vet work and none of the really stressful ones (like dealing with clients and money).

    Hello, can we get a video about measuring cat blood pressure at home with a petMAP or similar machine that we can get from the vet?

    • @SamTahbou
      @SamTahbou Před rokem

      Context, our cat is 17 year old rescue, she's extremely afraid of people besides us, taking her to the vet necessitates sedation, strong sedation, they literally can't do anything with her, she'll be so scared, angry and defensive that any weak calming medication will be ignored through sheer will. The vet won't be able to handle her at all. So measuring her blood pressure while sedated at the vet, will not give the best readings, we need to measure the blood pressure at home. I go for the tail on that, but it would be nice to have a good visual guide, I'm never sure I'm doing it right. The kitty has stage 2 kidney disease, possible future heart trouble, and some bowel irritation, so we have her on a special diet (finding one she'll take was a challenge, I cooked for her) and she gets B12 injections once a month, as well has two puffs of an asthma inhaler daily (flovent) -she had a chronic cough before. All n all, it's not as much work as some previous pets with under the skin fluids and many other daily things and pills.

      @@HelpfulVancouverVet *The Chaser's War on Everything* [Australian satirical show] once did a bit where they responded to a After the News "current affairs" show that had a reaction to one of their skits by a Vietnam vet.
      Annoyed that apparently all you needed to be qualified to have a opinion was being a Vietnam Vet, they got a Vietnamese Animal Doctor to give his opinion that the current affairs show was crap.
